The key role of symbiotic skin bacteria communities in amphibian resistance to emerging pathogens is well recognized, but factors leading to their dysbiosis are not fully understood. In particular, the potential effects of population translocations on the composition and diversity of hosts' skin microbiota have received little attention, although such transfers are widely carried out as a strategy for amphibian conservation. To characterize the potential reorganization of the microbiota over such a sudden environmental change, we conducted a common-garden experiment simulating reciprocal translocations of yellow-spotted salamander larvae across three lakes.

In this study, the potentiality of front face fluorescence spectroscopy (FFFS) for the evaluation of the quality of biscuits manufactured with butylated hydroxytoluene and pomegranate peel extract during aging was investigated. By using the principal component analysis, vitamin A and tryptophan spectra allowed a clear discrimination between biscuit samples according to the nature of antioxidants, while fluorescent Maillard reaction products spectra showed clear differentiation between samples according to the storage time. Clear differentiation between biscuits according to the used antioxidants and storage time was achieved by using common components and specific weights analysis.

The New 2021 CKD-EPI Equation Without Race in a European Cohort of Renal Transplanted Patients.

Transplantation

December 2022

Service de Néphrologie, Dialyse et Transplantation Rénale, Hôpital Nord, CHU de Saint-Etienne, France.

Background: Whether the new chronic kidney disease-epidemiology (CKD-EPI) equation without the race variable remains accurate enough for glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation in non-US kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) is unclear. We sought to compare the predictive performance between this equation and the classical CKD-EPI equation in a French cohort of KTRs. We also evaluated the performance of the European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equation, an estimate that has proved very accurate in nontransplant patients and that does not include race variable.

Purpose: To analyze the hepatitis C virus (HCV) burden in Lebanon and the value of comprehensive screening and treatment for different age groups and fibrosis stages.

Methods: We used a multicohort, health-state-transition model to project the number of HCV genotype 1 and 4 patients achieving a sustained virologic response 12 weeks after treatment or progressing to compensated cirrhosis (CC), decompensated cirrhosis (DCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or liver-related death (LrD) from 2016 to 2036. In the low/medium/high screening scenarios, the proportion of patients screened for HCV was projected to increase to 60%/85%/99%, respectively, by 2036.

Congenital generalized lipodystrophy is a rare inherited multisystemic disorder associated with disturbances of adipocyte functions. We report a young boy presenting at age 1 month with liver disease and severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Despite this multisystemic involvement and contrasting with a cachectic appearance, the anthropometric parameters showed marked overgrowth (+4 DS), leading to diagnosis of congenital lipodystrophy, which was confirmed by the presence of the new homozygous c.

Importance of PIKKs in NF-κB activation by genotoxic stress.

Biochem Pharmacol

November 2011

Laboratory of Immunology and Virology, GIGA-R, Building B34, Unit of Signal Transduction, University de Liège, 1 Allée de l'Hôpital, B-4000, Liège, Belgium.

Alteration of the genome integrity leads to the activation of a vast network of cellular responses named "DNA damage response". Three kinases from the phosphoinositide 3-kinase-like protein kinase family regulate this network; ATM and DNA-PK both activated by DNA double-strand breaks and ATR activated by replication blocks. "DNA damage response" pathway coordinates cell cycle arrest, DNA repair, and the activation of transcription factors such as p53 and NF-κB.
