Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a non-traumatic, non-atherosclerotic layering of the coronary artery wall due to the presence of a subintimal hematoma or an intimal tear with the creation of a false lumen that compresses the true lumen and restricts or obstructs the flow. Patients with SCAD and preserved coronary flow are treated conservatively according to the general recommendations. However, percutaneous coronary intervention should be considered in patients with artery occlusion and/or refractory ischemia.

Coronary bifurcation lesions present a challenging lesion subset regarding procedural complexity and worse patient outcomes as compared to simple lesions. Drug eluting stents (DES), as the current standard of care for percutaneous myocardial revascularization, have tubular design and uniform diameter, and therefore, need to be subjected to a standardized set of procedural modifications, to optimally fit and reconstruct underlying bifurcation anatomy. Since contemporary DES have various design platforms, with diverse mechanical properties, we must be aware of the device's favorable characteristics and limitations, to ensure maximal procedural safety and success.

By 2021, the FDA approved the use of the drugs pembrolizumab and atezolizumab in the first-line treatment of patients with high positivity of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in locally advanced and metastatic non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC). This approval was the result of statistically significant evidence from international, multicentric clinical studies that all reported increasing progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in these patients. In our study, we reported the demographic and clinical characteristics of 79 patients diagnosed with NSCLC with expression of PD-L1 ≥50% from January 2019 to December 2022 at the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina, who received pembrolizumab therapy as the first-line treatment.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the prevalence and perception of scientific misconduct in infectious diseases (ID) and clinical microbiology (CM), as reported by the ID/CM community.
Methods: An anonymous online European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases survey circulated among society members from October 2023 to June 2024; the questionnaire included data on participants' views on their own and their colleagues' scientific misconduct in the last 5 years.
Results: The survey received 220 responses.

Despite growing evidence over the last few years of the efficacy and safety of direct thrombus aspiration using a large bore distal access catheter as a type of mechanical thrombectomy procedure in acute stroke large-vessel occlusion patients, the experience and evidence of this technique for managing thromboembolic complications in endovascular aneurysm treatment is still limited and little research is available regarding this topic. We present a case of a thromboembolic occlusion of the left middle cerebral artery during the preprocedural angiograms of a large and fusiform left internal carotid artery aneurysm. This complication was successfully managed by navigating an already-placed distal access catheter intended for support during the opening of the flow-diverting stent; therefore, the thrombus was manually aspirated for two minutes, and Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (TICI) scale 3 flow was restored.

Approximately 20% of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) are diagnosed with a mucinous subtype of this tumor, have a worse prognosis, and often show resistance to available therapies. Molecules from the mucin family are involved in the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which significantly determines the cancer aggressiveness. This study aimed to examine the diagnostic and prognostic significance of mucinous histology and EMT markers in patients with early-onset CRC and their association with disease severity and tumor characteristics.

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) encompasses a range of distressing symptoms in the vulvovaginal and/or bladder-urethral regions related to menopause changes, negatively influencing woman's quality of life and sexual activity. Fractional micro-ablative CO laser therapy has shown the potential to reinstate the vaginal epithelium to a condition akin to the premenopausal state, thereby ameliorating the subjective symptoms associated with GSM. We conducted a prospective, pilot study in 73 sexually active postmenopausal women treated with CO laser for their GSM symptoms, while assessing Vaginal Health Index Score (VHIS) and sexual function through the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) Questionnaire.

Introduction: Despite antifungal advancements, candidaemia still has a high mortality rate of up to 40%. The ECMM Candida III study in Europe investigated the changing epidemiology and outcomes of candidaemia for better understanding and management of these infections.
Methods: In this observational cohort study, participating hospitals enrolled the first ten consecutive adults with blood culture-proven candidemia.

Emergency general surgeons often provide care to severely ill patients requiring surgical interventions and intensive support. One of the primary drivers of morbidity and mortality is perioperative bleeding. In general, when addressing life threatening haemorrhage, blood transfusion can become an essential part of overall resuscitation.

Infective endocarditis is a rare disease with an increasing incidence and an unaltered high mortality rate, despite medical development. Imaging plays an integrative part in the diagnosis of infective endocarditis, with echocardiography as the initial diagnostic test. Research data in the utility of cardiac computed tomography (CCT) in the diagnostic algorithm of IE are rising, which indicates its importance in detection of IE-related lesion along with the exclusion of coronary artery disease.

In patients with diabetes mellitus, accelerated progression of atherosclerosis can lead to worse clinical outcomes. Determining the best diagnostic strategy to identify patients with increased cardiovascular risk is challenging. Current guidelines recommend using both functional imaging and CT angiography to detect myocardial ischemia and coronary artery disease based on pre-test probability.

Obesity is often accompanied by low-grade chronic inflammation and metabolic syndrome. It has been established that microbiota influences many physiological processes, including the development of obesity, and dysbiosis has been observed in obese individuals. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of a new probiotic formulation, containing two probiotic strains and the bioactive compound octacosanol, on body weight, metabolic parameters, and concentrations of certain adipocytokines and appetite-regulating hormones in obese women.

Objective: The use of scoring systems contributes to the faster identification of septic patients, especially those at a high risk of a fatal outcome. The best scoring system does not exist, so the search for the optimal one is always current. The aim of this study is to estimate the prognostic value of the six scoring systems in predicting 24-hour mortality among septic patients presented at the emergency department.
