Aim: We sought the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) parameter that most accurately reflected therapeutic efficacy in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

Methods: Well-being questionnaire, N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide measurements, echocardiography, and CPET were performed in patients with symptomatic non-obstructive HCM during phase II, randomized, open-label multicentre study, before and after 16 weeks of traditional or sacubitril/valsartan treatment. Patients were followed 36 months after the initial CPET.

Background: This study investigated for a possible contributing role of hippocampus in the different clinical phenotypic manifestations of migraine aura.

Methods: Herein, patients were categorized as those with pure visual aura (MwAv), those who reported additional somatosensory and dysphasic symptoms (MwAvsd), and healthy controls (HCs). Neuroimaging data obtained using FreeSurfer-based segmentation of hippocampal subfields were compared between HCs and patients with migraine with aura, as well as between HCs and those with MwAv and MwAvsd.

Background: Hemoglobin, Albumin, Lymphocyte, and Platelet Score (HALP) is an accessible score that is easily reproducible from routine laboratory testing while also reflecting patients' immune-nutritional status. Along with other immuno-nutritional scores, such as the Prognostic Nutrition Index (PNI), HALP has been associated with a number of clinical and pathological features. The goal of our study was to evaluate the prognostic utility of HALP and PNI scores in testicular germ cell cancer (GCT) patients.

Transition Period and Young Adulthood in Patients with Childhood Onset Growth Hormone Deficiency (COGHD): Impact of Growth Hormone Replacement on Bone Mass and Body Composition.

Int J Mol Sci

September 2024

Department of Endocrinology, Internal Medicine Clinic, University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, 78000 Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of this review article is to highlight the consequences of COGHD after the end of linear growth on bone mass and body composition and the opposing beneficial effects of continuing GH replacement in the transition period and young adults. The role of growth hormone in the period of late adolescence and young adulthood is well established, mainly in achieving peak bone mass and a favorable body composition, characterized by muscle mass increase and fat mass reduction. Patients with childhood onset growth hormone deficiency (COGHD), after reaching the adult height, have a reduced bone mineral density and muscle mass with increased fat mass compared to healthy controls.

  • Disruptions in homocysteine metabolism can make the liver more vulnerable to diseases like alcoholic liver disease and cirrhosis.
  • A study using rats tested the impact of aerobic treadmill training on liver injury markers and oxidative stress, comparing sedentary to physically active groups under normal and hyperhomocysteinemic conditions.
  • Results showed that aerobic exercise improved some liver health indicators, lowered lipid peroxidation, but also caused an increase in certain enzyme activities, indicating altered energy metabolism due to high homocysteine levels.
