Trends in diagnostic biopsy sample collection approaches for primary bone sarcomas have shifted in the past 2 decades. Although open/incisional biopsies used to be the predominant approach to obtain diagnostic material for Ewing sarcoma and osteosarcoma, image-guided core needle biopsies have increased in frequency and are safe for patients. These procedures are less invasive and reduce recovery times but have potential limitations.

Introduction: Cytokines and chemokines direct the inflammatory response and may serve as markers of immune dysregulation in Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), an autoimmune blistering skin disorder. Previous studies on limited numbers of patients and cytokine profiles in PV have produced equivocal results regarding the role these mediators play in disease.

Methods: In this study, we interrogated serum samples from 116 PV patients and 29 healthy controls by multiplexed bead array assays across a comprehensive set of cytokines and chemokines covering several functional categories, including IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12, IL-13, IL-15, IL-17, IL-21, IL-22, IL-23, TNFα, IFNγ, MCP-1, and Eotaxin.

Uridine insertion/deletion editing of mitochondrial messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in kinetoplastids entails the coordinated action of three complexes. RNA Editing Catalytic Complexes (RECCs) catalyze the enzymatic reactions, while the RNA Editing Substrate Binding Complex (RESC) and RNA Editing Helicase 2 Complex (REH2C) coordinate interactions between RECCs, mRNAs and hundreds of guide RNAs that direct edited sequences. Additionally, numerous auxiliary factors are required for productive editing of specific mRNAs.

Exercise is a vital component of health and is commonly utilized as a non-pharmacologic therapy for many disorders, including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). However, exercise intolerance is a key feature of POTS and other autonomic disorders and, therefore, presents a major barrier for many patients. Despite exercise being uniformly recommended as a therapeutic intervention, a majority of patients with POTS, especially those with severe orthostatic intolerance and fatigue, are unable to complete or sustain rigorous exercise programs or successfully integrate them into their daily routine.

Article Synopsis
  • Ambulatory oxygen is vital for patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who have low oxygen levels during physical activity, especially if traditional testing may miss their true needs.
  • A study reviewed treadmill exercise tests for 329 IPF patients and 2,343 COPD patients to measure their oxygen flow requirements, finding that IPF patients typically need more oxygen than COPD patients at peak exertion.
  • Notably, while some patients didn't need oxygen during moderate exercise, a significant portion (49% of IPF and 24% of COPD patients) required it when pushed to their highest level of exertion, highlighting the limitations of standard testing.
