Biologists increasingly rely on computer code to collect and analyze their data, reinforcing the importance of published code for transparency, reproducibility, training, and a basis for further work. Here, we conduct a literature review estimating temporal trends in code sharing in ecology and evolution publications since 2010, and test for an influence of code sharing on citation rate. We find that code is rarely published (only 6% of papers), with little improvement over time.

The fascinating realm of strain engineering and wetting transitions in two-dimensional (2D) materials takes place when placed on a two-dimensional array of nanopillars or one-dimensional rectangular grated substrates. Our investigation encompasses a diverse set of atomically thin 2D materials, including transition metal dichalcogenides, hexagonal boron nitride, and graphene, with a keen focus on the impact of van der Waals adhesion energies to the substrate on the wetting/dewetting behavior on nanopatterned substrates. We find a critical aspect ratio of the nanopillar or grating heights to the period of the pattern when the wetting/dewetting transition occurs.

Background And Aims: Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a large number of government policies have been implemented worldwide in response to the global spread of COVID-19. This paper aims at developing a data-driven analysis to answer the three research questions: (a) Compared to the pandemic development, are the global government COVID-19 policies sufficiently active? (b) What are the differences and characteristics in the policy activity levels at the country level? (c) What types of COVID-19 policy patterns are forming?

Methods: Using the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker data set, we present a global analysis of the COVID-19 policy activity levels and evolution patterns from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022, based on the differential expression-sliding window analysis (DE-SWAN) algorithm and the clustering ensemble algorithm.

Results: Within the period under study, the results indicate that (a) the global government policy responses to COVID-19 are very active, and the policy activity levels are significantly higher than those of global pandemic developments; (b) a high activity of policy is positively correlated to pandemic prevention at the country level; and (c) a high human development index (HDI) score is negatively correlated to the country policy activity level.

Sintered agglomerate of synthetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) is an architected geomaterial that provides confinement-mediated flow and transport properties of fluids needed for environmental research such as geological subsurface energy storage or carbon capture. The design of those properties can be guided by numerical simulations but is hindered by the lack of method to characterize the permeable pores within MSNs due to pore size. This work uses the advances of an Individual Particle cryogenic transmission Electron Tomography (IPET) technique to obtain detailed 3D morphology of monodispersed MSNs with diameters below 50 nm.

Infantile-onset Pompe disease manifests with early signs of cardiomyopathy during the first few days to weeks of life. We present the case of a newborn born via emergency cesarean section with atrial flutter and moderate biventricular hypertrophy who was diagnosed with Pompe disease on New York State newborn screen. The symbiotic relationship between dinoflagellate algae in the family Symbiodiniaceae and scleractinian corals forms the base of the tropical reef ecosystem. In scleractinian corals, recruits acquire symbionts either "vertically" from the maternal colony or initially lack symbionts and acquire them "horizontally" from the environment.
