Clinical impact of a pharmacist-led medication review with follow up for aged polypharmacy patients: A cluster randomized controlled trial.

Background: Medication review with follow-up (MRF) is a service where community pharmacists undertake a medication review with monthly follow-up to provide continuing care. The ConSIGUE Program assessed the impact and implementation of MRF for aged polypharmacy patients in Spanish Community Pharmacies. The present paper reports on the clinical impact evaluation phase of ConSIGUE.

Intuitive pharmacogenetic dosing of risperidone according to CYP2D6 phenotype extrapolated from genotype in a cohort of first episode psychosis patients.

Risperidone (R) is the most prescribed antipsychotic drug for patients with a first episode of psychosis (FEP). In a naturalistic cohort of chronic psychiatric inpatients, we demonstrated that clinicians adjust R dosage by CYP2D6 activity, despite being blinded to the genotype, which we described as an "intuitive pharmacogenetic" process. The aim of the present study is to replicate our previous findings of intuitive pharmacogenetic in a cohort of FEP patients using CYP2D6 phenotype extrapolated from genotypes.

Maintenance of cutaneomuscular neuronal excitability after leg-cycling predicts lower limb muscle strength after incomplete spinal cord injury.

Objective: Controlled leg-cycling modulates H-reflex activity after spinal cord injury (SCI). Preserved cutaneomuscular reflex activity is also essential for recovery of residual motor function after SCI. Here the effect of a single leg-cycling session was assessed on cutaneomuscular-conditioned H-reflex excitability in relation to residual lower limb muscle function after incomplete SCI (iSCI).

Structure of stable protein folding intermediates by equilibrium phi-analysis: the apoflavodoxin thermal intermediate.

Protein intermediates in equilibrium with native states may play important roles in protein dynamics but, in cases, can initiate harmful aggregation events. Investigating equilibrium protein intermediates is thus important for understanding protein behaviour (useful or pernicious) but it is hampered by difficulties in gathering structural information. We show here that the phi-analysis techniques developed to investigate transition states of protein folding can be extended to determine low-resolution three-dimensional structures of protein equilibrium intermediates.

Measurement of mechanical forces acting on the area pellucida of the early chick embryo.

We have designed a method for measuring mechanical forces acting on the area pellucida of the chick embryo between stages 1 to 5 of HAMBURGER and HAMILTON (1951). The coordinates of several points on the outline of the area pellucida were used as input, from which a computer program measured the changes in the position of similar points to produce a table of values which, we argue, reflect mechanical forces in the embryo. The results obtained are shown to be reproducible between embryos.

Cord blood lipoprotein-cholesterol: relationship birth weight and gestational age of newborns.

Umbilical plasma levels of lipoproteins-cholesterol were measured in 60 premature (less than 37 weeks), 60 small for gestational age (SGA, greater than 37 weeks), and 60 full term newborns (greater than 37 weeks) to ascertain the relationship between gestational age, infant's weight and concentration of plasma lipoprotein cholesterol. Umbilical levels of total cholesterol (TC), unesterified cholesterol (UC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in premature newborns were significantly higher (P less than .001) than in term infants.
