Leishmania parasites are the causative agents of visceral or cutaneous leishmaniasis in humans and of canine leishmaniosis. The macrophage is the predilected host cell of Leishmania in which the promastigote stage is transformed into amastigote. We previously showed changes in the fatty acid composition (FA) of lipids in two strains of Leishmania donovani upon differentiation of promastigote to amastigote, including increased proportions of arachidonic acid (AA) and to a less extent of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is commonly associated with higher rates of comorbidities. Recent recommendations highlight screening comorbidities during the disease course because of their impact on patients' ability to function, on disease outcome, but also on treatment choices. Hence the interest of our study that aimed to quantify the impact of comorbidities among RA patients using a validated tool the Rheumatic Disease Comorbidity Index (RDCI) and to explore the association between comorbidities and disease characteristics.

Culture filtrate protein 32 as a potential target to attenuate the heterogeneous antibody response against Antigens in different endemic settings.

Int J Mycobacteriol

December 2022

Department of Immunology, Laboratory of Transmission, Control and Immunobiology of Infection, Institut Pasteur de Tunis; Department of Immunology, University Tunis El Manar, Tunis, Tunisia.

Background: We previously reported the development of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis virulence factor - culture filtrate protein 32 (CFP32). The assay achieved high performance in comparing healthy Bacillus Calmette-Guerin-vaccinated controls with active tuberculosis (TB) patients from the Tunisian population. Herein, we aimed to assess the anti-CFP32 IgG response in suspected or confirmed active pulmonary TB individuals in different endemic settings.

The recently emerged novel coronavirus, "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2)," caused a highly contagious disease called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It has severely damaged the world's most developed countries and has turned into a major threat for low- and middle-income countries. Since its emergence in late 2019, medical interventions have been substantial, and most countries relied on public health measures collectively known as nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on Sparicotyle chrysophrii, a parasite affecting the gilthead sea bream, which can lead to disease and death in aquaculture.
  • It investigates genetic variation and population structure using two molecular markers (28S rRNA and COI), analyzing samples from both wild and farmed fish in Italy and Spain.
  • Findings indicate low genetic diversity within S. chrysophrii from S. aurata, potential identification of a sister species from another host, and initial evidence of parasite transfer between wild and farmed populations.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is an auto-inflammatory disease characterised by sterile bone lesions. We report a case of a seven-year-old female patient who presented at a university hospital in 2010 and 2018 with CRMO. While the most promising results have been observed in patients under treatment with bisphosphonates (BPs), the initial decision to treat the current patient with a dose of zoledronic acid every six months was recalled as the patient developed tonic-clonic seizures immediately following the second dose BP administration.
