An original preoperative orthopaedic management of a complex spinal deformity in a 16-year-old patient with spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita.

Purpose: Spinal deformities in patients with Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia congenita are particularly challenging to treat. Addressing these deformities requires a holistic surgical strategy. Regulated Expiratory Methods During Childbirth Process: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of a regulated expiratory method (REM) on the childbirth process.

Methods: This was a randomized trial. Study population included all first-time mothers with a spontaneous onset of labour, at an early stage, and a fetus in cephalic presentation with a normal weight for gestational age.

Reliability of the tunisian pediatric gait, arms, legs, and spine: toward a valid screening tool for tunisian children with musculoskeletal conditions.

Background: Pediatric musculoskeletal disorders account for 10% of first-line consultations in Tunisia. Referral delay and deficiencies in musculoskeletal screening raise a challenge to the early diagnosis and management of rheumatic conditions in children. The pGALS (Pediatric Gait Arms Legs Spine) was developed and translated into many languages to overcome these deficiencies.

Crithmum maritimum L. Volatile Compound's Diversity Through Tunisian Populations: Use of a Plant Organ-Based Statistical Approach for Chemotype Identification.

This work aimed to investigate the variability of the chemical composition of the aromatic halophyte Crithmum maritimum L. essential oils according to the geographical origin and separated organs, using a statistical approach based on the multiple analysis of variance and the Principal Component Analyses. One hundred twenty samples were collected from three distinct bioclimatic regions (10 samples×3 provenances×4 organs).

Bioaugmentation and phytoremediation wastewater treatment process as a viable alternative for pesticides removal: case of pentachlorophenol.

Unlabelled: This study focused on the potential for pentachlorophenol removal by a biological process in secondary treated wastewater (STWW). The proposed process is a combined method of phytoremediation using a native plant, Polypogon maritimus and Lemna minor, and bioaugmentation using a fungus. The bioaugmentation process was performed by a fungal isolate capable of removing PCP, isolated from the compost.

Effect of music therapy on patients with rheumatic diseases.

Background: Music therapy seems to have a multitude of positive effects not only on mental health but also on organic pain. Some studies have showed its effectiveness on reducing pain for patients undergoing surgical procedures. However, data on its efficiency on patients' anxiety during rheumatology medical consultation for patients with chronic rheumatic diseases is lacking.

PHINDaccess Hackathons for COVID-19 and Host-Pathogen Interaction: Lessons Learned and Recommendations for Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Hackathons are collaborative events that bring together diverse groups to solve predefined challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has emphasized the need for portable and reproducible genomics analysis pipelines to study the genetic susceptibility of the human host and investigate human-SARS-CoV-2 protein interactions. To build and strengthen institutional capacities in OMICS data analysis applied to host-pathogen interaction (HPI), the PHINDaccess project organized two hackathons in 2020 and 2021.

Isolation and characterization of a newly chrysene-degrading Achromobacter aegrifaciens.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are considered substances of potential human health hazards because of their resistance to biodegradation and carcinogenic index. Chrysene is a PAH with a high molecular weight (HMW) that poses challenges for its elimination from the environment. However, bacterial degradation is an effective, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution.

Selection and Characterization of Bacteriocinogenic Lactic Acid Bacteria from the Intestine of Gilthead Seabream () and Whiting Fish (): Promising Strains for Aquaculture Probiotic and Food Bio-Preservation.

This study sought to evaluate the probiotic properties and the food preservation ability of lactic acid bacteria isolates collected from the intestines of wild marine fishes (gilthead seabream () ( = 60) and whiting fish () ( = 40)) from the Mediterranean sea in the area of Mostaganem city, Algeria. Forty-two isolates were identified as: ( = 19), ( = 15), ( = 4), subp. ( = 3), and ( = 1).

Accuracy of the Personal Economic Distress Index Among Arabic Unemployed.

Studies about The Index of Personal Economic Distress (IPED) in Arab countries since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic have been alarming. This study aimed to explore the reliability, factor structure, and criterion validity of the Arabic IPED in a sample of unemployed Tunisians during the past 6 months. The Arabic version of the IPED and the validated Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were administered to a total of 2011 unemployed people originating from all Tunisian regions.

Association between genetic variants of TLR2, TLR4, TLR9 and schizophrenia.

Background And Study Aim: Schizophrenia (SZ) is a multifactorial disorder involving complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors, where immune dysfunction plays a key etiopathogenic role. In order to explore the control of innate immune responses in SZ, we aimed to investigate the potential association between twelve TLR2, TLR4 and TLR9 variants (TLR2: rs4696480T>A, rs3804099T>C, rs3804100T>C; TLR4: rs1927914G>A, rs10759932T>C, rs4986790A>G, rs4986791T>C, rs11536889G>C, rs11536891T>C; TLR9: rs187084A>G, rs352139T>C and rs352140C>T) and SZ susceptibility in a Tunisian population.

Anterior Chest Wall Non-traumatic Arthropathies: A Crucial but Often Overlooked Site.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the distribution of Anterior Chest Wall (ACW) arthropathies in a tertiary care center and identify clinical, biological and imaging findings to differentiate osteoarthritis (OA) from non-osteoarthritis (N-OA) etiologies.

Methods: Search from medical records from January 2009 to April 2022, including patients with manubriosternal and/or sternoclavicular and/or sternocostal joint changes confirmed by ultrasonography, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. The final study group was divided into OA and N-OA subgroups.

Gut microbiota profile and the influence of nutritional status on bacterial distribution in diabetic and healthy Tunisian subjects.

Gut microbiota plays a key role in the regulation of metabolism and immunity. We investigated the profile of gut microbiota and the impact of dietary intake on gut bacterial distribution in diabetic and healthy Tunisian subjects, aiming to identify a dysbiotic condition, hence opening the way to restore eubiosis and facilitate return to health. In the present research, we enrolled 10 type 1 diabetic (T1D), 10 type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients and 13 healthy (H) subjects.

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis and Hyalinosis in a Patient with Spondyloarthritis: A Rare Renal Involvement Case Report.

Background: During its course, spondyloarthritis (SpA) may be associated with extra-articular manifestations affecting several organs. Renal involvement is one of the most common extra-articular manifestations and is dominated by secondary amyloidosis (AA), immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy, and urolithiasis. Other nephropathies such as Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and hyalinosis (FSGS) are less common and are limited to few case reports.

Spinal Tuberculosis: Features and Early Predictive Factors of Poor Outcomes.

Introduction: Tuberculosis is still endemic in Tunisia. Among musculoskeletal involvement, spinal tuberculosis (STB) or «Pott's Disease» is the most common and can lead to serious neurological complications. Cervical Benign Teratoma: Case Report and Review of Literature.

Probability of the 10-year Risk of Hip and Major Osteoporotic Fracture in Non-radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis.

Background: Fracture risk in non-radiographic spondyloarthritis is underestimated. A reliable tool such as the Fracture Risk Assessment tool (FRAX) may assess this risk probability. This study aimed to assess the fracture risk by the FRAX score in patients with nr-axSpA and to determine factors associated with high fracture risk.

Green Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Silver Nanoparticles Using subsp. Aqueous Extract: Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Potential and Effect on Virulence Mechanisms of Bacterial and Fungal Pathogens.

Novel silver nanoparticles were synthesized based on a simple and non-toxic method by applying the green synthesis technique, using, for the first time, the aqueous extract of an extremophile plant belonging to the subsp. species. AgNP characterization was performed via UV-Visible, front-face fluorescence spectroscopy, and FTIR and XRD analyses.

Effect of Geographical Location on the Phenolic and Mineral Composition of Chetoui Olive Leaves.

In this study, we investigated the influence of pedological parameters and variation of altitude on the mineral nutrients, phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activities of olive leaves. Samples of the Chetoui cultivar were collected from eight geographical locations with different altitudes. Levels of phenolic compounds varied according to the altitude.

Effects of polyphenols and their metabolites on age-related diseases.

Aging contributes to the progressive loss of cellular biological functions and increases the risk of age-related diseases. Cardiovascular diseases, some neurological disorders and cancers are generally classified as age-related diseases that affect the lifespan of individuals. These diseases result from the accumulation of cellular damage and reduced activity of protective stress response pathways, which can lead to inflammation and oxidative stress, which play a key role in the aging process.
