Background And Objective: Detection of the Optic Disc (OD) in retinal fundus image is crucial in identifying diverse abnormal conditions in the retina such as diabetic retinopathy. Previous systems are oriented to the OD detection and segmentation. Most research failed to locate the OD in the case when the image does not have a criterion appearance.

Epidemiological and Phylogeographic Study of Equid Herpesviruses in Tunisia.

Equid herpesvirus (EHV) is a contagious viral disease affecting horses, causing illness characterized by respiratory symptoms, abortion and neurological disorders. It is common worldwide and causes severe economic losses to the equine industry. The present study was aimed at investigating the incidence of EHVs, the genetic characterization of Tunisian isolates and a spatiotemporal study, using 298 collected samples from diseased and clinically healthy horses.

Enzymatic and Molecular Characterization of Anti- Molecules That Differently Target and Mammalian eIF4A Proteins, LieIF4A and eIF4A.

Previous investigations of the eIF4A-like protein (LieIF4A) as a potential drug target delivered cholestanol derivatives inhibitors. Here, we investigated the mode of action of cholesterol derivatives as a novel scaffold structure of LieIF4A inhibitors on the RNA-dependent ATPase activity of LieIF4A and its mammalian ortholog (eIF4AI). We compared their biochemical effects on RNA-dependent ATPase activities of both proteins and investigated if rocaglamide, a known inhibitor of eIF4A, could affect LieIF4A as well.

Perceived risk of infection and death from COVID-19 among community members of low- and middle-income countries: A cross-sectional study.

Risk perceptions of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are considered important as they impact community health behaviors. The aim of this study was to determine the perceived risk of infection and death due to COVID-19 and to assess the factors associated with such risk perceptions among community members in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Africa, Asia, and South America. An online cross-sectional study was conducted in 10 LMICs in Africa, Asia, and South America from February to May 2021.

Association between epidemiological and clinico-pathological features of breast cancer with prognosis, family history, Ki-67 proliferation index and survival in Tunisian breast cancer patients.

Breast cancer has different epidemio-clinical characteristics in Middle East and North-African populations compared to those reported in the Western countries. The aim of this study is to analyze the epidemiological and clinico-pathological features of breast cancer in Tunisia and to determine prognostic factors with special interest to family history, Ki-67 proliferation index and comorbidity. We retrospectively reviewed epidemiological and clinico-pathological data from patients' medical records, treated in the Medical Oncology Department at Abderrahmane Mami Hospital, in the period 2011-2015.

Case Report: Extensive digital gangrene as a primary manifestation of late-onset systemic lupus erythematosus.

Digital gangrene is a rare but serious complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It occurs usually in middle-aged patients with longer disease duration. Herein we report the case of a 56-year-old man (with no history suggestive of Raynaud's phenomenon, diabetes mellitus, smoking, trauma, infection, or chemical exposure), who presented with SLE and digital gangrene was among the first signs.

Objectives: Leflunomide is a commonly used treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. It acts by inhibiting dihydroorotate dehydrogenase through its active metabolite teriflunomide. The objective of the study was to investigate the relation between plasma-concentration of teriflunomide and disease-activity in rheumatoid arthritis.

Collision lung tumor associating typical carcinoid tumor to sclerosing hemangioma.

Collision tumors associating carcinoid tumor and sclerosing pneumocytoma have rarely been reported in the literature. The clinical presentation may be challenging especially in cases showing multiple and bilateral nodules. This case illustrates the association of both tumors diagnosed incidentally and illustrates a full spectrum of neuroendocrine lesions and sclerosing pneumocytoma.

Disease Progression of WHIM Syndrome in an International Cohort of 66 Pediatric and Adult Patients.

Warts, hypogammaglobulinemia, infections, and myelokathexis (WHIM) syndrome (WS) is a combined immunodeficiency caused by gain-of-function mutations in the C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) gene. We characterize a unique international cohort of 66 patients, including 57 (86%) cases previously unreported, with variable clinical phenotypes. Of 17 distinct CXCR4 genetic variants within our cohort, 11 were novel pathogenic variants affecting 15 individuals (23%).

Full Genome Characterization of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Causing a Fatal Infection in an Immunocompromised Patient in Tunisia.
