Background: Higher life expectancy has produced a higher older people porpulation, not necessarily with a consistent quality of life, showing a high rate of vulnerability and dependence. The current social and health crisis situation has highlighted the need to create new integrated models of care that could be translated into social and health policies.

Objective: The present study aims to develop, test, and validate an innovative integrated care model for older people with dependence and at risk of social exclusion and their caregivers.

Wastewater metagenomics in Africa: Opportunities and challenges.

The advent of metagenomics has dramatically expanded our understanding of microbial communities, particularly through the study of wastewater, which serves as a rich source of microbial data. In Africa, wastewater metagenomics presents unparalleled opportunities for public health monitoring, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) tracking, and the discovery of new microbial species and functions. Utilizing high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies, this method allows for direct analysis of nucleic acids from wastewater samples, providing a cost-effective and comprehensive approach for pathogen surveillance.

A Spectacular Effect of Tocilizumab in Takayasu Arteritis.

Background: Anti-interleukin-6 receptors (anti-IL-6R) have been a promising new therapeutic alternative in the treatment of Takayasu arteritis.

Case Description: We report the case of a 34-year-old patient with Takayasu arteritis diagnosed in 2017. While she was on corticosteroid and methotrexate, the patient presented twice with clinical and radiological signs of activity, requiring an increase of corticosteroid dose and an increase in the methotrexate dose to 20 mg/week.

Introduction: Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines drive optimal patient care and facilitate access to high-quality treatment. Creating guidelines for rare diseases such as haemophilia, where evidence does not often come from randomized controlled trials but from non-randomized and well-designed observational studies and real-world data, is challenging. The methodology used for assessing available evidence should consider this critical fact.

Primary Thyroid Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma: A Case Report.

Introduction: Post-COVID syndrome (PCS) is characterized by a polymorphism of symptoms with hypothetical pathophysiological mechanisms. Here, we aimed to analyze the profile of inflammatory cytokines in patients with PCS and to study the relationship between this profile, the clinical symptoms as well as the endothelial function in PCS.

Methods: Our analytical study involved all eligible patients (n = 66) with PCS included from April 2021 to December 2021.

Barriers to Applying Knowledge Gained Through an Implementation Research Massive Open Online Course: An Explanatory Qualitative Study.

This study explores the barriers encountered by participants in applying knowledge gained from a massive open online course (MOOC) on implementation research (IR), particularly among learners in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite the rising demand for quality IR training, access remains limited in LMICs. The IR MOOC, created by the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, seeks to bridge this gap by providing free online IR training.

Invasive fungal infection in patients with hematologic malignancies: epidemiology and prognostic factors.

Invasive fungal infections (IFI) are emerging opportunistic diseases that occur mainly in immunocompromised patients. Our study aimed to analyze the epidemiology of IFIs in patients with hematological malignancies, and the prognostic factors. Our retrospective study included patients hospitalized in the hematology department between January 1, 2010, and August 31, 2020, and in whom the diagnosis of IFI was made according to the EORTC criteria 2008.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study including Tunisian patients initiating bDMARD treatment between 2016 and 2018 whose data were collected from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The NHIF is the national office which organises and centralises patients under bDMARDs from all over the country.
