Key Clinical Message: Persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may coexist and can be improved with ADHD medications. Thus, clinicians should screen for ADHD by a multidisciplinary approach when treating PIFP and differentiate between other odontogenic disorders.

Abstract: We report a case of a woman with persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) that markedly improved with the administration of a combination of aripiprazole (APZ) and methylphenidate (MP) treatment.

Encouraged by our recent findings that 4'-cyano-deoxyguanosine (2), entecavir analogues 4 and 5 are highly potent anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) agents, we designed and synthesized 6 having a hybridized structure of 4 and 5. The chiral quaternary carbon portion at the 4'-position, which is substituted by cyano- and 5'-hydroxymethyl groups, was stereospecifically constructed by radical-mediated 5- mode cyclization of 10. The introduction of the fluorine atom into the 6''-position was achieved by radical-mediated stannylation of sulfide ()-11 and subsequent electrophilic fluorination of ()-12.

We investigated the proteins of erythrocytes from stem cell transplantation patients and found decreased expression of band3 and C-terminal-truncated peroxiredoxin 2 (PRDX2) only during severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), using time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF-MS) analysis and Western blotting. During the same period, PRDX2 dimerization and calpain-1 activation were observed, indicating severe oxidative stress. We also found a putative cleavage site for calpain-1 in the C-terminal-truncated site of PRDX2.

Article Synopsis
  • A previous study struggled to differentiate between intact fibrous cap (IFC) and ruptured fibrous cap (RFC) lesions in patients with coronary artery disease, prompting this study to assess the effectiveness of coronary CT imaging before procedures for acute myocardial infarction.
  • In analyzing 186 patients, researchers found that various CT markers were significantly lower in the IFC group, which helped highlight critical differences in plaque characteristics between IFC and RFC lesions.
  • The study concluded that preprocedural coronary CT imaging can reliably distinguish between IFC and RFC lesions, helping to identify higher-risk patients non-invasively.
