Motivation: Cancer subtype diagnosis is crucial for its precise treatment and different subtypes need different therapies. Although the diagnosis can be greatly improved by fusing multiomics data, most fusion solutions depend on paired omics data, which are actually weakly paired, with different omics views missing for different samples. Incomplete multiview learning-based solutions can alleviate this issue but are still far from satisfactory because they: (i) mainly focus on shared information while ignore the important individuality of multiomics data and (ii) cannot pick out interpretable features for precise diagnosis.

Robust Handover Optimization Technique with Fuzzy Logic Controller for Beyond 5G Mobile Networks.

Sensors (Basel)

August 2022

Communication Systems and Networks Research Lab, Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, University Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur 54100, Malaysia.

Mobility management is an essential process in mobile networks to ensure a high quality of service (QoS) for mobile user equipment (UE) during their movements. In fifth generation (5G) and beyond (B5G) mobile networks, mobility management becomes more critical due to several key factors, such as the use of Millimeter Wave (mmWave) and Terahertz, a higher number of deployed small cells, massive growth of connected devices, the requirements of a higher data rate, and the necessities for ultra-low latency with high reliability. Therefore, providing robust mobility techniques that enable seamless connections through the UE's mobility has become critical and challenging.

Department of Computer Science, College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Taif University, P.O. Box 11099, Taif 21944, Saudi Arabia.

Missing values in the k-NN algorithm are a significant research concern, especially in low-grade tumours and CSF fluid, which are commonly identified in MRI scans. Missing values are usually ignored, but when data is mined, they can lead to bias and errors. In addition, the data is not missing at random.

This work investigates the performances of coconut shell waste-based activated carbon (CSWAC) adsorption in batch studies for removal of ammoniacal nitrogen (NH-N) and refractory pollutants (as indicated by decreasing COD concentration) from landfill leachate. To valorize unused resources, coconut shell, recovered and recycled from agricultural waste, was converted into activated carbon, which can be used for leachate treatment. The ozonation of the CSWAC was conducted to enhance its removal performance for target pollutants.

The refugees and migrants are not recorded generally and deemed invisible by governments without providing them with identity and welfare services. The COVID-19 pandemic has badly impacted the economy, and the poor migrants and refugees have suffered most due to the closure of industries and informal sectors. Lack of legal identity made them more vulnerable and excluded them from getting benefits of even meagre government support and welfare schemes.

This study investigated the feasibility of integrated ammonium stripping and/or coconut shell waste-based activated carbon (CSWAC) adsorption in treating leachate samples. To valorize unused biomass for water treatment application, the adsorbent originated from coconut shell waste. To enhance its performance for target pollutants, the adsorbent was pretreated with ozone and NaOH.

The complex physics and biology underlying intracranial hemodynamics are yet to be fully revealed. A fully resolved direct numerical simulation (DNS) study has been performed to identify the intrinsic flow dynamics in an idealized carotid bifurcation model. To shed the light on the significance of considering blood shear-thinning properties, the power-law model is compared to the commonly used Newtonian viscosity hypothesis.

Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, University Teknologi Malaysia, 81310 Skudai, Johor, Malaysia.

Continuous depletion in tin productions has led to a newly emerging industry that is a tin by-product (amang) processing industry to harness mega tons of tin by-products produced in the past. Amang composed of profitable multi-heavy minerals and rare-earth elements. With poorly established safety and health practices in operating plant, amang poses extremely high radioactivity problem associated with high occupational ionizing radiation exposures to workers and continuously impacting the local environment with radioactive contamination from industrial effluent and solid waste into lithosphere and water bodies.

We test the feasibility of TiO(B)@carbon composites as adsorbents, derived from wheat straws, for tetracycline (TC) adsorption from aqueous solutions. Hydrochar (HC), biochar (BC), and hydrochar-derived pyrolysis char (HDPC) are synthesized hydrothermally from the waste and then functionalized with TiO(B), named as 'Composite-1', 'Composite-2', and 'Composite-3', respectively. A higher loading of TiO(B) into the HC was also synthesized for comparison, named as 'Composite-4'.

The usage of non-degradable polymer as the main matrix for a cosmetic patch raises concern, as it can cause environmental pollution when discarded in landfill. Thus, biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) was chosen in this study, as PLA has non-toxic properties and similar mechanical properties to conventional plastic materials. An active ingredient in a cosmetic patch serves the purpose of providing beneficial ingredients to the skin; therefore, phycocyanin, an extract from spirulina, was chosen, as it possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

There is increasing interest in the use of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) for orthopedic and dental implant applications due to its elastic modulus (close to that of bone), biocompatibility and radiolucent properties. However, PEEK is still categorized as bioinert owing to its low integration with surrounding tissues. Methods such as depositing hydroxyapatite (HA) onto the PEEK surface could increase its bioactivity.
