Automated surveillance in French ICUs: is it feasible? Results from a survey in French ICUs participating in a surveillance network.

A survey was undertaken to evaluate the level of computerization in intensive care units (ICUs) within a French network dedicated to the surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial use (AMU) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in ICUs (REA-REZO). Ninety-eight ICUs responded, and patient records were computerized in 57%, antimicrobial prescriptions were computerized in 59% and AMR epidemiology was computerized in 72%. AMU and AMR feedback was provided to the ICU itself for 77% and 65% of ICUs, respectively, and feedback was provided to the national surveillance for 79% and 65% of ICUs, respectively.

Increased concentrations of circulating chromatin, especially oligo-nucleosomes, are observed in sepsis, cancer and some inflammatory autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In SLE, circulating nucleosomes mainly result from increased apoptosis and decreased clearance of apoptotic cells. Once released, nucleosomes behave both as an autoantigen and as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) by activating several immune cells, especially pro-inflammatory cells.

In this discussion piece, eight scholars in geography, urban planning, and agri-food studies from the United States (US) and France engage in a bi-national comparison to deepen our collective understanding of food and land justice. We specifically contextualize land justice as a critical component of food justice in both the US and France in three key areas: access to land for cultivation, urban agriculture, and non-agricultural forms of food provisioning. The US and France are interesting cases to compare, considering the differences and similarities in their colonial and agricultural histories, persistent and systemic race and class-based inequities in land access, and the roles of public bodies and social movements.

This study explores the interplay between wave propagation and damage in brittle materials. The damage models, based on micro-mechanical fracture dynamics, capture any possible unstable growth of micro-cracks, introducing a macroscopic loss of stability. After stating the non-dimensional mathematical problem describing the wave propagation with damage, we introduce a non-dimensional number, called the microscopic evolution index, which links the micro and macro scales and discriminates the microscopic scale behaviour.

Syndecan-1 along with the other three syndecan proteins is present in the varied components of the tumor microenvironment: fibroblasts, inflammatory tumor immunity-associated cells, vessels, and extracellular matrix. Epithelial and non-epithelial tumors may show stromal syndecans.
