A detailed phytochemical investigation has been carried out on the aerial parts of leading to the isolation of 29 pure compounds, mainly belonging to the amorfrutin and polyphenol classes. Among them, the new amorfrutin N () and exiguaflavone L () were isolated and their structures elucidated by means of HR-ESIMS and NMR. All the isolated compounds were investigated for modulation of mitochondrial activity and stimulation of glucose uptake via GLUT transporters, two metabolic processes involved in intracellular glucose homeostasis, which, therefore, correlate with the incidence of metabolic syndrome.

The optimal number of needle passes during endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) is not yet established. We aimed to perform a per-pass analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of EUS-FNB of solid pancreatic lesions using a 22G Franseen needle. Consecutive patients with solid pancreatic lesions referred to 11 Italian centers were prospectively enrolled.

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a multifaceted monogenic disorder with a broad disease spectrum and variable disease severity and a variety of treatment options including allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and gene therapy (GT). No reliable biomarker exists to predict disease course and outcome for individual patients. A total of 577 patients with a WAS variant from 26 countries and a median follow-up of 8.

Introduction: Upper-tight tourniquet is widely used in Total Knee Arthroplasty in different modalities. However, it has been associated with a negative impact on post-operative muscle strength end pain. This study aimed to investigate the effect of tourniquet on post-operative pain and recovery in enhanced recovery joint surgery.

Background: Acne, a chronic inflammatory disease impacting the pilosebaceous unit, is influenced significantly by inflammation and oxidative stress, and is commonly associated with obesity. Similarly, obesity is also associated with increased inflammation and oxidation. The role of diet in acne remains inconclusive, but the very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD), known for weight loss and generating anti-inflammatory ketone bodies, presents promising potential.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to explore in-depth the different aspects of the association between very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD), obesity and obesity-related thyroid dysfunction.
Recent Findings: The VLCKD, proposed as a non-pharmacological strategy for the management of certain chronic diseases, is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. Initially used to treat epilepsy, it has been shown to be effective in controlling body weight gain and addressing various pathophysiological conditions.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial, hypertrophic, and degenerative condition involving the whole joint and affecting a high percentage of middle-aged people. It is due to a combination of factors, although the pivotal mechanisms underlying the disease are still obscure. Moreover, current treatments are still poorly effective, and patients experience a painful and degenerative disease course.

Background: REST (Repressor-Element 1 [RE1]-silencing transcription factor) inhibits Na/Caexchanger-1 () transcription in neurons through the binding of RE1 site on brain promoter after stroke. We identified a new putative RE1 site in heart promoter sequence (-RE1) that participates in neuronal transcription. Because REST recruits DNA-methyltransferase-1 (DNMT1) and MeCP2 (methyl-CpG binding protein 2) on different neuronal genes, we investigated the role of this complex in transcriptional regulation after stroke.

Three major directions for the global progress of adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors for gene therapies (GT) are analyzed: 1) engineering vectors to increase transgene expression; 2) aligning interests of the health system with costs and challenges for the pharmaceutical industry; and 3) refining patient eligibility criteria and endpoint definition. Currently employed AAV vectors may cause toxicity and adverse events. Furthermore, studies in animals do not fully predict risks and clinical benefits of AAV-based GT, and animal models reflecting the heterogeneity of certain clinical settings (e.

Background: Microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) are emerging as a potential risk factor for cardiovascular disease in preclinical studies. Direct evidence that this risk extends to humans is lacking.

Purpose: Recent numerical and empirical results proved that high permittivity materials (HPM) used in pads placed near the subject or directly integrated with coils can increase the SNR and reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR) in MRI. In this paper, we propose an analytical investigation of the effect on the magnetic field distribution of a layer of HPM surrounding an anatomy-mimicking cylindrical sample.
Methods: The study is based on a reformulation of the Mie scattering for cylindrical geometry, following an approach recently introduced for spherical samples.

The first detailed phytochemical analysis of the cannabigerol (CBG)-rich chemotype IV of L. resulted in the isolation of the expected cannabigerolic acid/cannabigerol (CBGA/CBG) and cannabidiolic acid/cannabidiol (CBDA/CBD) and of nine new phytocannabinoids (-), which were fully characterized by HR-ESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR. These included mono- or dihydroxylated CBGA/CBG analogues, a congener with a truncated side chain (), cyclocannabigerol B (), and the CBD derivatives named cannabifuranols ( and ).

Background: Neurosurgery, an intricate and dynamic surgical specialty, faces challenges in attracting medical graduates. Despite its potential appeal, a decreasing trend in medical students opting for surgical specialties, including neurosurgery, is noted. This study aims to assess European medical students' perceptions of neurosurgery, focusing on South-East Europe, and address concerns about the declining interest in this field.

MicroRNA (miRNA), by post-transcriptionally regulating the expression of genes involved in stroke response, represents important effectors in stroke pathophysiology. Recently, the 103/107 miRNA family emerged as a possible therapeutic target in stroke, as it controls the expression of sodium calcium exchanger 1, a plasma membrane transporter that plays a fundamental role in stroke pathophysiology. Although the neuroprotective properties of this and other miRNAs are promising, several pharmacokinetic drawbacks remain to be faced for the development of a translatable therapy based on small RNAs in CNS diseases.

Background: Consolidative thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) has been commonly used in the management of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). Nevertheless, phase III trials exploring first-line chemoimmunotherapy have excluded this treatment approach. However, there is a strong biological rationale to support the use of radiotherapy (RT) as a boost to sustain anti-tumor immune responses.
