: While post-acute COVID-19 syndrome is well known and extensively studied, the post-acute COVID vaccination syndrome (PACVS) is a more recent nosological entity that is poorly defined at the immunopathological level, although it shares many symptoms with the sequelae of viral infections. : This single-center retrospective study reports a case series of 17 subjects vaccinated with mRNA or adenoviral vector vaccines who were healthy before vaccination and had never been infected with SARS-CoV-2 but who presented with symptoms similar to PACVS for a median time of 20 months (min 4, max 32). The medical records of all patients referred to our outpatient clinic over a one-year period were retrospectively analyzed.

Peptide-based self-assembled nanosystems show great promise as non-viral gene and siRNA delivery vectors. In the current study, we designed and functionalized nanofibers for the delivery of siRNA, targeting and silencing EGFR gene overexpressed in triple-negative breast cancer. The nanofiber-mediated siRNA delivery was characterized in terms of zeta potential, morphology, and structural stability by circular dichroism spectroscopy.

The use of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is now well established in healthcare as an essential support tool for patient management in various clinical settings. Its use in sports is rapidly expanding due to the valuable insights it offers, helping to better structure athletes' diets and training programs, thereby optimizing their performance. In the context of sport, however, there is a consensus regarding the importance of proper interpretation of BIA-derived data, which cannot be limited to mere estimation of body composition.

In several physiopathological processes, phosphatidylserine (PS), normally sequestered to the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane, becomes exposed to the cell surface. In erythrocytes (RBC), PS externalization is a crucial event for the removal of aged/damaged cells but can also be associated with increased prothrombotic activity. Structurally related olive oil antioxidants, including hydroxytyrosol (HT), are able to significantly reduce the percentage of PS-exposing RBC, when cells are exposed to toxic compounds such as the heavy metal mercury (Hg).

Bacteria have developed a tendency to form biofilms, where bacteria live in organized structures embedded in a self-produced matrix of DNA, proteins, and polysaccharides. Additionally, bacteria need iron(III) as an essential nutrient for bacterial growth and secrete siderophore groups that sequester it from the environment. To design a molecule able both to inhibit the bacteria and to sequester iron, we developed two hydroxamate-based peptides derived from an analog (WMR-4), previously developed in our lab, of the antimicrobial peptide myxinidin.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and diabesity (diabetes related to obesity) are interrelated since glucose and lipid alterations play a vital role in the development of both disorders. Due to their multi-variant metabolic features, more than one drug or natural product may be required to achieve proper therapeutic effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a formulation containing co-micronized palmitoylethanolamide and rutin (PEA-Rut) associated with hydroxytyrosol (HT), namely NORM3, against hepatic damage and metabolic alterations in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced diabesity in mice.

Obesity, a prevalent and multifactorial disease, is linked to a range of metabolic abnormalities, including insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and chronic inflammation. These imbalances not only contribute to cardiometabolic diseases but also play a significant role in cancer pathogenesis. The rising prevalence of obesity underscores the need to investigate dietary strategies for effective weight management for individuals with overweight or obesity and cancer.

Most of the chronic-degenerative diseases deserve a very early recognition of symptoms and signs for the earliest secondary prevention, which could be also very useful in many cases for the most precocious clinical approach. The periodic monitoring of a subject at risk of a specific disease, because of genomic predisposition by predictive medicine approach, may help to earlier detection of onset and/or the progression of the pathology itself, through intra-individual monitoring. This is particularly the case of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for which an early diagnosis is undoubtedly the first step to ensure the most proper therapy for the patient.
