Slovenian version of the scoliosis research society instrument-22 revised (SRS-22r) in adolescents and adults: Psychometric properties and some implications.

Purpose: This study aimed to provide a reliable and valid translation of the Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22r) questionnaire, compare it with the EQ-5D-5 L questionnaire, and analyse health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with idiopathic scoliosis (IS) in Slovenia in order to potentially improve their rehabilitation processes.

Methods: A matched-case-control study was performed to assess internal consistency reliability, test-retest reliability, concurrent validity, and discriminative validity. The questionnaire was returned by 25 adolescent IS patients, 25 adult IS patients, and 25 healthy controls (87%, 71%, and 100% response rate, respectively).

Automated step detection with 6-minute walk test smartphone sensors signals for fall risk classification in lower limb amputees.

Predictive models for fall risk classification are valuable for early identification and intervention. However, lower limb amputees are often neglected in fall risk research despite having increased fall risk compared to age-matched able-bodied individuals. A random forest model was previously shown to be effective for fall risk classification of lower limb amputees, however manual labelling of foot strikes was required.

Functional Status, Pain and Shoulder Mobility in Frozen Shoulder A Prospective Study.

The aim of our study was to assess the clinical course, disease duration, functional status dynamics and prevalence of elevated blood sugar values in patients with frozen shoulder (FS). We also tested two other hypotheses: a) Duration of symptoms before the beginning of therapy affects rehabilitation outcome and duration of symptoms. b) Postponed initiation of therapy affects the duration of sick leave.

Health-related quality-of-life during rehabilitation in patients with critical illness neuropathy/myopathy after severe coronavirus disease 2019.

Our aim was to evaluate health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) of the patients with critical illness neuropathy and/or myopathy after severe COVID-19 during their rehabilitation. The prospective cohort study included 157 patients (median age 64 years) admitted to rehabilitation. HRQoL was assessed the using European Quality 5-Dimensions questionnaire [EQ-5D index , range 0(or exceptionally less) to 1, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), range 0-100], which was completed by the patients at admission and discharge.

Self-perception of cognitive functions in patients with neurological impairments as measured against a translated Cognitive Change Index.

The primary purpose of the study was to compare the results of neuropsychological assessments with results obtained using a translated Cognitive Change Index (CCI) on patients with diagnosed brain pathology. Our study included 54 patients diagnosed with neurologic pathology (stroke, TBI, or brain tumor) at the University Rehabilitation Institute Soca (average age = 51 years, SD = 15 years). The results of neuropsychological evaluations and anamnestic data were also obtained for the clinical subsample.

Improving autobiographical memory in schizophrenia using wearable cameras: A single-case experimental study.

Autobiographical memory (AM) impairments influence both sense of identity and social functioning of patients with schizophrenia. The size and behavior of virtual objects have influence on functional exercise and motivation of persons with multiple sclerosis: a randomized study.

The consequences of multiple sclerosis are problems with limb movement, coordination, and vision. Heretofore a combination of therapy and additional medications can alter the course of the disease and reduce upper extremity disability. We developed a virtual environment for pick-and-place tasks as a supportive tool to address the problem of challenging task in occupational therapy.

Risk Factors for Feeding and Swallowing Disorders in Very Low Birth Weight Infants in Their Second Year of Life.

: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of feeding and swallowing disorders (FSD) in very low birth weight (VLBW, 1500 g or less) infants in the first two years after discharge from the maternity hospital, their possible risk factors, and the consequences of them. : A total of 117 preterm children with VLBW born between 2013 and 2015 were included. The data concerning possible FSD after discharge from the hospital were obtained through accessible medical documentation for the child and a short parental questionnaire.

Return to work among workers recovering from severe COVID-19 in Slovenia: a focus group study.

Lower urinary tract function in patients with fracture in thoracolumbal junction: an observational study.

A fracture in the thoracolumbal junction may cause complete or incomplete damage to the spinal cord, conus medullaris or cauda equina and result in an isolated or mixed lesion of the upper and lower motor neurons causing leg weakness and urinary/bowel/sexual dysfunction. In this retrospective cross-sectional study, we aimed to describe electrodiagnostic and urodynamic findings after thoracolumbal fractures and determine potential discriminating factors. We identified 74 cases (mean age 42 years, range 16-79 years, 55 men) admitted to our institution between 2008 and 2018 for Th12, L1 or L2 vertebral fractures, and retrieved from their medical records available demographic, clinical, electrodiagnostic and urodynamic data.

Life satisfaction and athletic identity among Olympic para-alpine skiers: a survey.

The objective of this study was to examine life satisfaction and athletic identity among para-alpine skiers and explore their associations with sociodemographic, sports practice, and disability-related characteristics of the participants. The respondents to the on-site survey were 129 para-alpine ski racers with acquired disability from 33 countries on all five continents who competed in the Paralympic games in Sochi (aged 16-53 years, mean and median 30 years, 100 men). Two self-developed assessment instruments were used - a 7-point Likert-type life-satisfaction questionnaire probing seven domains (health, family, education, freedom, friends, travelling, and self) and the Athletic Identity Scale (AIS; possible score range 17-85).

Validation of three novel clinical prediction tools for primary aldosteronism subtyping.

The 20-point clinical prediction SPACE score, the aldosterone-to-lowest potassium ratio (APR), aldosterone concentration (AC) and the AC relative reduction rate after saline infusion test (SIT) have recently been proposed for primary aldosteronism (PA) subtyping prior to adrenal vein sampling (AVS). To validate those claims, we performed a retrospective cross-sectional study that included all patients at our center who had positive SIT to confirm PA and were diagnosed with either bilateral disease (BPA) according to AVS or with lateralized disease (LPA) if biochemically cured after adrenalectomy from November 2004 to the end of 2019. Final diagnoses were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of proposed clinical prediction tools.

Background & Aims: Relative energy deficiency syndrome in sport (RED-S) can impair the function of several body systems, resulting in short and long-term threats to athletes' health and performance. Research showed that these health and performance problems are often unrecognized, and the treatment is not adequate. The retrospective study presented in this paper aims to determine the prevalence of RED-S-related symptoms in a sample of Slovenian competitive athletes from various sports.

Amputee Fall Risk Classification Using Machine Learning and Smartphone Sensor Data from 2-Minute and 6-Minute Walk Tests.

The 6-min walk test (6MWT) is commonly used to assess a person’s physical mobility and aerobic capacity. However, richer knowledge can be extracted from movement assessments using artificial intelligence (AI) models, such as fall risk status. The 2-min walk test (2MWT) is an alternate assessment for people with reduced mobility who cannot complete the full 6MWT, including some people with lower limb amputations; therefore, this research investigated automated foot strike (FS) detection and fall risk classification using data from a 2MWT.

Harnessing Energy of a Treadmill for Push-Off Assistance During Walking: Feasibility Study.

Regaining efficient push-off is a crucial step in restitution of walking ability in impaired individuals. Inspired by the elastic nature of ankle plantarflexor muscle-tendon complex, we propose a novel rehabilitation device: Ankle Exoskeleton using Treadmill Actuation for Push-off assistance (AN-EXTRA-Push). Using a brake and an elastic tendon, it harnesses energy of a moving treadmill during stance phase, then releases it during push-off to aid with plantarflexion torque generation.

Rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients with respiratory failure and critical illness disease in Slovenia: an observational study.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection often causes pneumonia and respiratory failure that may lead to postintensive care syndrome, including critical illness neuropathy (CIN) and critical illness myopathy (CIM). The data on the rehabilitation outcomes of post-novel coronavirus disease (COVID) patients with CIN and CIM following respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation are still limited. To address this, we enrolled in our prospective observational study a sample of 50 consecutive COVID-19 patients admitted to our facility between 2 November 2020 and 3 May 2021 with electrophysiologically confirmed or clinically suspected diagnosis of CIN/CIM.

Teachers' work performance can be enabled or constrained by their professional habits, including habits while using computers.

Treatment of osteoporosis with teriparatide: The Slovenian experience.

The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of postmenopausal women prescribed with teriparatide in Slovenia, during the first decade after its approval, and the predictors of bone mineral density (BMD) improvement with treatment. We retrospectively studied postmenopausal osteoporotic patients prescribed with teriparatide at tertiary center from 2006 to 2015. BMD was measured at standard sites by DXA at baseline, after 12 and 24 months.

Validity, responsiveness, floor and ceiling effects of the Berg Balance Scale in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

We investigated the measurement properties of the Berg Balance Scale in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome. A retrospective analysis was performed of 81 patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome of age 17-84 years who had completed inpatient rehabilitation over a 5-year period. They were assessed with the Berg Balance Scale, the 10 Meter Walk Test, and the 6 Minute Walk Test at admission and discharge.

Lay Public View of Neuroscience and Science-Based Brain Health Recommendations in Slovenia.

Brain health is one of the cornerstones of a long and full life. Active care for brain health and reduction of lifestyle-related risks for brain disorders may be a key strategy in tackling the growing prevalence of mental and neurological illnesses. Public knowledge, perception, and preventive behavior need to be considered in the planning of effective strategies for brain health promotion.
