Recent evidence suggests that whole-body cryostimulation (WBC) may be beneficial for patients with fibromyalgia (FM), but little is known about the duration of such effects. The purpose of this study was to verify the duration of clinical-functional benefits after one cycle of WBC. We conducted a follow-up study on the medium and long-term effects of WBC on well-being, use of pain-relieving/anti-inflammatory medications, pain level, fatigue, sleep quality, and psychological aspects such as mood and anxiety.

For the improvement of surface roughness, titanium joint arthroplasty (TJA) components are grit-blasted with AlO (corundum) particles during manufacturing. There is an acute concern, particularly with uncemented implants, about polymeric, metallic, and corundum debris generation and accumulation in TJA, and its association with osteolysis and implant loosening. The surface morphology, chemistry, phase analysis, and surface chemistry of retrieved and new AlO grit-blasted titanium alloy were determined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and confocal laser fluorescence microscopy, respectively.

Accurate real-time gait event detection is the basis for the development of new gait rehabilitation techniques, especially when utilizing robotics or virtual reality (VR). The recent emergence of affordable wearable technologies, especially inertial measurement units (IMUs), has brought forth various new methods and algorithms for gait analysis. In this paper, we highlight some advantages of using adaptive frequency oscillators (AFOs) over traditional gait event detection algorithms, implemented a real-time AFO-based algorithm that estimates the gait phase from a single head-mounted IMU, and validated our method on a group of healthy subjects.

Since the first implantation in July 2001, the intrathecal baclofen (ITB) therapy for patients with generalized spasticity has been used in Slovenia for 20 years. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the rates of different complications, especially if catheter-related complications were less frequent after the introduction of the coated catheter type in February 2013, and the potential correlation between higher baclofen doses and the incidence of complications. We retrospectively collected data from all patients in the registry during the period from 3 July 2001 to 31 December 2021.

The consequences of multiple sclerosis are problems with limb movement, coordination, and vision. Heretofore a combination of therapy and additional medications can alter the course of the disease and reduce upper extremity disability. We developed a virtual environment for pick-and-place tasks as a supportive tool to address the problem of challenging task in occupational therapy.

: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of feeding and swallowing disorders (FSD) in very low birth weight (VLBW, 1500 g or less) infants in the first two years after discharge from the maternity hospital, their possible risk factors, and the consequences of them. : A total of 117 preterm children with VLBW born between 2013 and 2015 were included. The data concerning possible FSD after discharge from the hospital were obtained through accessible medical documentation for the child and a short parental questionnaire.

The objective of this study was to evaluate by means of classical test theory and Rasch analysis the scaling characteristics and psychometric properties of the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) in polio survivors. A questionnaire, consisting of five general questions (sex, age, age at time of acute polio, sequelae of polio, and new symptoms), the FSS, and three questions from the Visual Analog Scale questions on fatigue was sent to all 196 polio survivors at the Institute for Rehabilitation in Ljubljana. Responses were assessed in terms of Cronbach's a, item-to-total correlation, factor analysis, and Rasch analysis.
