State of art in intra-articular hip injections of different medications for osteoarthritis: a systematic review.

Background: Intra-articular hip injections for osteoarthritis represent a useful instrument to reduce pain and disability in the common clinical practice. Several medications can be injected locally with different level of evidence-based efficacy.

Objective: The objective of this systematic review is to investigate the effectiveness of intra-articular injections of different medications or substances for the pain treatment and the management of disability in subjects affected by hip osteoarthritis.

Insulin-sensitizing effect and antioxidant action of alpha lipoic acid in oligomenorrheic women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a low-grade inflammatory disease characterized by anovulation and hyperandrogenism, associated with insulin-resistance. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of a treatment with alpha-lipoic acid on clinical, endocrine, and metabolic features of women affected by PCOS.

Methods: In this pilot cohort study, 60 women (30 hyperinsulinemic and 30 normoinsulinemic patients; age 15-34 years) were enrolled and clinical, hormonal, and metabolic parameters were evaluated before and after a six-months treatment with alpha-lipoic acid 800 mg/daily.

The benefits of purified cytoplasm of pollen in reducing menopausal symptoms in peri- and post-menopause: an Italian multicenter prospective observational study.

Background: Purified cytoplasm of pollen (PCP) is a non-hormonal herbal remedy used to manage vasomotor symptoms (VMS), sleep and mood disorders in menopausal women not relying on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Many studies demonstrated its efficacy and safety in post-menopause but few data are available about peri-menopause.

Methods: This is a multicenter prospective observational study on Italian symptomatic women in peri- and post-menopause referring to gynecology clinics of different areas of Italy, evaluating the effects of PCP therapy on hot flashes (HFs) and other parameters included in the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS).

Adjuvant radiotherapy in grossly total resected grade II atypical meningiomas: a protective effect on recurrence?

Introduction: Management of grade II atypical meningiomas (AM) remains controversial. Conflicting evidence exist on the possible protective effect of adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) on recurrence in grossly resected AMs. The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the role of ART in grossly resected (Simpson grades 1-3) AMs on the recurrence and survival.

Risk of Recurrence in Uterine Leiomyoma with Bizarre Nuclei: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei (LBN) is a variant of uterine leiomyoma, which has replaced the previous category of "atypical leiomyoma" and must be distinguished from smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP). However, previously published series of "atypical leiomyoma" might have included both LBN and STUMP, due to the lack of strict diagnostic criteria. Based on such hypothesis, we aimed to define the risk of recurrence in LBN.

Early management of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in a hospital without neurosurgical/neuroendovascular facilities: a consensus and clinical recommendations of the Italian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care (SIAARTI).

Background: The immediate management of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients in hospitals without neurosurgical/neurointerventional facilities and their transfer to a specialized center is challenging and not well covered in existing guidelines. To address these issues, we created a consensus of experts endorsed by the Italian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care (SIAARTI) to provide clinical guidance.

Methods: A multidisciplinary consensus panel composed by 19 physicians selected for their established clinical and scientific expertise in the acute management of SAH patients with different specializations (anesthesia/intensive care, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology) was created.

Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Endometrial Cancer and Adenomyosis.

A better endometrial cancer (EC) prognosis in patients with coexistent adenomyosis has been reported. Unfortunately, it is still unclear if this better prognosis is related to a more favorable clinical profile of adenomyosis patients. Vertical and horizontal ridge augmentation using customized CAD/CAM titanium mesh with versus without resorbable membranes. A randomized clinical trial.

Objectives: The aim was to evaluate the role of resorbable membranes applied over customized titanium meshes related to soft tissue healing and bone regeneration after vertical/horizontal bone augmentation.

Materials And Methods: Thirty patients with partial edentulism of the maxilla/mandible, with vertical/horizontal reabsorption of the alveolar bone, and needing implant-supported restorations, were randomly divided into two groups: Group A was treated using only custom-made meshes (Mesh-) and Group B using custom-made meshes with cross-linked collagen membranes (Mesh+). Data collection included surgical/technical and healing complications, "pseudo-periosteum" thickness, bone density, planned bone volume (PBV), regenerated bone volume (RBV), regeneration rate (RR), vertical bone gain (VBG), and implant survival in regenerated areas.

Introduction: There is growing evidence on the efficacy of gait robotic rehabilitation in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), but most of the studies have focused on gait parameters. Moreover, clear indications on the clinical use of robotics still lack. As part of the CICERONE Italian Consensus on Robotic Rehabilitation, the aim of this systematic review was to investigate the existing evidence concerning the role of lower limb robotic rehabilitation in improving functional recovery in patients with MS.

Artificial intelligence-enhanced intraoperative neurosurgical workflow: current knowledge and future perspectives.

Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) augment decision-making processes and productivity by supporting surgeons over a range of clinical activities: from diagnosis and preoperative planning to intraoperative surgical assistance. We reviewed the literature to identify current AI platforms applied to neurosurgical perioperative and intraoperative settings and describe their role in multiple subspecialties.

Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review of the literature was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines.

Background: The TCGA molecular groups of endometrial carcinoma are "POLE-mutated" (POLEmut), "microsatellite-instable/mismatch repair-deficient" (MSI/MMRd), "TP53-mutated/p53-abnormal" (TP53mut/p53abn), and "no specific molecular profile" (NSMP).

Dexmedetomidine reduced the severity of emergence delirium and respiratory complications, but increased intraoperative hypotension in children underwent tonsillectomy: a retrospective analysis.

Background: Intraoperative dexmedetomidine can be useful for its sedative and analgesic sparing effects, and for the prevention of emergence delirium. Conversely, it can cause hypotension and bradycardia. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of dexmedetomidine in pediatric anesthesia.

Peak oxygen uptake in sportsmen with spinal cord injury: importance of body composition.

Background: Although peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) is considered the most useful index of functional capacity, it's difficult to interpret the results of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). In fact, VO2peak is usually normalized for total body weight, but body composition in persons with SCI largely varies depending on physical activity and time since injury, with a progressive loss of fat-free mass (FFM). This can lead to a misinterpretation of the cardiopulmonary fitness in this population.

Mild/Moderate Asthma Network in Italy (MANI): a long-term observational study.

Objective: The prevalence of asthma in Italy is estimated to be around 4%; it affects approximately 2,000,000 citizens, and up to 80-90% of patients have mild-to-moderate asthma. Despite the clinical relevance of mild-to-moderate asthma, longitudinal observational data are very limited, including data on disease progression (worsening vs. improvement), the response to treatment, and prognosis.

The identification of cancer stem cells in brain tumors paved the way for new therapeutic approaches. Recently, a role for the transcriptional factor Runx1/Aml1 and the downstream ion channel genes in brain cancer development and progression has been suggested. This study aimed to explore the expression and the role of Runx1/Aml1, its Aml1b and Aml1c splice variants and the downstream TRPA1 and TRPV1 ion channels in undifferentiated and day-14 differentiated neural stem cells (NSCs and D-NSCs) and glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs and D-GSCs) lines with different proneural (PN) or mesenchymal (MES) phenotype.

The effect of soft tissue augmentation on the clinical and radiographical outcomes following immediate implant placement and provisionalization: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Nowadays, due to the esthetic and social demands of patients, conventional staged protocols seem to be increasingly replaced by faster, one-step protocols. The purpose of the present systematic review is to assess the peri-implant soft tissue changes after immediate implant placement and provisionalization (IIPP) comparing patients treated with or without a sub-epithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) when replacing a single tooth in the esthetic region.

Methods: The present systematic review was written following the PRISMA checklist.
