Synthesis and antibacterial study of unsaturated Mannich ketones.

Eur J Med Chem

September 2001

Department of Medical Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, University Pécs, H-7624 Pécs, Szigeti út 12, Hungary.

Several Mannich ketones of 2-arylmethylenecycloalkanones were synthesised using the classical acid-catalysed Mannich reaction. Antibacterial activity of these new water-soluble compounds was reported against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis standard strains. Human cell line cytotoxicity of our new compounds was evaluated against HeLa cell lines.

Lectin histochemistry of pathological bones.

Bull Hosp Jt Dis

March 2000

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical School of University Pécs, Hungary.

Our present knowledge of the structure and function of glycoproteins in bone tissue is very limited. The introduction of lectins into histology offered principally a new approach for studying the presence and chemical structure of glycoproteins in tissue sections. In this paper these highly specific carbohydrate binding molecules have been used to characterize glycoproteins in the cellular elements of normal bone and benign bone lesions.

The local cell composition of skin infections caused by Trichophyton rubrum (13 cases) and Microsporum canis (2 cases) was examined using monoclonal antibodies and the ABC immunoperoxidase technique. The number of Langerhans cells increased both in the epithelium and in the dermis of the mycotic area. Apart from these, only T cells were found in the dermis, among which helper cells were predominant.

Microcomputer-based recording system for clinical electrophysiology.

Doc Ophthalmol

September 1990

Medical University Pécs, Department of Ophthalmology, Hungary.

We developed a personal computer-based system for clinical electrophysiologic measurements. The computer interfaced with a commercially available A/D converter, a low-noise isolation preamplifier, filter circuits, pattern and Ganzfeld stimulators, and a hardcopy unit. Separate programs were developed for electroretinography (ERG), pattern ERG and simultaneous visual evoked potential (VEP), flash and pattern-shift VEP, and electro-oculographic measurements.

Protein synthesis in human platelets.

Clin Biochem

April 1988

Department of Clinical Chemistry, Medical University Pécs, Hungary.

The platelets and leukocytes of human peripheral blood were separated and cultured for 24 h in the same medium. The culture medium was completed with S-methionine. The overall protein synthetic activity of the platelets, compared with leukocytes, was studied with a two-dimensional gel electrophoresis technique combined with fluorographic detection of labelled proteins.
