Background The risk of pharmacokinetic interaction is important in HIV-infected cancer patients receiving concomitantly highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and anti-cancer systemic treatments. We aimed to evaluate the safety profile of raltegravir-based HAART in cancer patients receiving multi-kinase inhibitors (MKIs). Patients and Methods We conducted a retrospective medical record review of adult, HIV-infected cancer patients treated in our institutions from January 2010 to December 2015.

Quality of life of young cancer survivors has become a major issue. However, anticancer therapies can have a detrimental impact on fertility. It is now well-established that all patients should receive information about the fertility risks associated with their cancer treatment and the fertility preservation options available.

To review our experience and outcomes after inguinal hernia repair using the lightweight self-adhering sutureless mesh "Adhesix™" and demonstrate the safety and efficacy of this mesh. This is a 3-year retrospective study that included 143 consecutive patients who underwent 149 inguinal hernia repairs at our department of surgery. All hernias were repaired using a modified Lichtenstein technique.

Study Question: Are in vitro maturation (IVM) rates of cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs), retrieved from breast cancer patients seeking urgent fertility preservation (FP) before neoadjuvant chemotherapy, different between those recovered in the follicular or in the luteal phase of the cycle?
Summary Answer: The present investigation reveals no major difference in the number of COCs recovered or their IVM rates whatever the phase of the cycle at which egg retrieval is performed, suggesting that IVM is a promising tool for breast cancer patients seeking urgent oocyte cryopreservation.
What Is Known Already: FP now represents a standard of care for young cancer patients having to undergo gonadotoxic treatment. Mature oocyte cryopreservation after IVM of COCs has been proposed for urgent FP, especially in women, who have no time to undergo ovarian stimulation, or when it is contraindicated.

Premature ovarian insufficiency is a relatively rare condition that can appear early in life. In a non-negligible number of cases the ovarian dysfunction results from genetic diseases. Turner syndrome (TS), the most common sex chromosome abnormality in females, is associated with an inevitable premature exhaustion of the follicular stockpile.

Fertility preservation strategies have been developed for men and women whose fertility is compromised for medical reasons, especially in case of cancer therapy. At present, many reliable options for preserving fertility are available. However, a part of these fertility preservation methods, despite being promising, are still considered experimental.

The bromodomain (BRD) and extraterminal (BET) proteins including BRD2, BRD3 and BRD4 have been identified as key targets for leukemia maintenance. A novel oral inhibitor of BRD2/3/4, the thienotriazolodiazepine compound OTX015, suitable for human use, is available. Here we report its biological effects in AML and ALL cell lines and leukemic samples.

A risk-adapted treatment strategy is mandatory for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). We refined the World Health Organization (WHO)-classification-based Prognostic Scoring System (WPSS) by determining the impact of the newer clinical and cytogenetic features, and we compared its prognostic power to that of the revised International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS-R). A population of 5326 untreated MDS was considered.

With ovarian stimulation for IVF, serum progesterone concentration may increase during the last few days of stimulation. Several factors, mainly the intensity of the ovarian response to gonadotrophins, have been identified to explain progesterone elevation but many other issues remain uncertain. The aim of this narrative, nonsystematic review is to address the nonconsensual issues of the reasons and consequences of premature progesterone elevation during ovarian stimulation.

Background: The influence of LH on serum progesterone rise during gonadotrophin stimulation is a matter of debate. The purpose of this analysis was to assess the impact of supplementation with 'LH activity' products on serum progesterone changes before hCG administration in GnRH analog-treated women.
Methods: A computerized literature search was performed to identify studies comparing FSH treatment alone to those that provided supplementation with 'LH activity' using hMG, recombinant (r)LH (rLH) or hCG in GnRH analog protocols.

Hydroxyurea is the standard therapy of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) presenting with advanced myeloproliferative and/or myelodysplastic features. Response to hypomethylating agents has been reported in heterogeneous series of CMML. We conducted a phase 2 trial of decitabine (DAC) in 39 patients with advanced CMML defined according to a previous trial.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess and validate a management protocol for infertile patients affected by at least one hydrosalpinx.
Study Design: Eighty-one consecutive infertile normo-ovulatory patients with uni or bilateral hydrosalpinx planed to be surgically managed were included in the protocol from November 2003 to May 2007. During laparoscopy, a systematic evaluation of the tubes was firstly conducted and the local management protocol based on validated tubal prognostic scores was applied.

We compared characteristics of 62 MDS patients with isolated del 20q, 36 patients with del 20q and other cytogenetic abnormalities, and 1335 MDS patients without del20q. Significant differences between MDS with isolated del 20q and patients without del 20q were lower platelet count (mean 144 vs.

Background And Objective: Systolic blood pressure (SBP) strongly predicts cardiovascular risk and is an important factor to evaluate in studies of antihypertensive treatments. A recent randomized controlled study has shown that the angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist (angiotensin receptor blocker [ARB]) olmesartan medoxomil (hereafter olmesartan) combined with the calcium channel antagonist (calcium channel blocker) amlodipine can control SBP in a majority of patients with moderate-to-severe hypertension. The aim of this report is to present results from a post hoc analysis of this study to further evaluate the effects of this combination on SBP.

Background: The role of LH in sensitizing antral follicles to FSH is unclear. LH is required for normal hormone production and normal oocyte and embryo development, but follicular responses to LH may depend upon the stage of development. Potential roles at the early follicular phase were explored in a clinical setting by employing a sequential approach to stimulation by recombinant human (r-h) LH followed by r-hFSH in women who were profoundly down-regulated by depo GnRH agonist.

Background: Very large and complex incisional hernias, especially those involving loss of abdominal wall, present a particular challenge to the surgeon.
Aims: The open intraperitoneal technique was used prospectively for the repair of incisional hernias in a selected group of patients with large defects, often those with major loss of abdominal wall, overweight patients, and previous failures of incisional repair.
Materials And Methods: Between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 2005, out of 275 patients operated on for incisional hernia repair, 61 of them, most of whom were obese with multiorificial recurrent or giant hernias and contraindicated for laparoscopy, were treated using an open intraperitoneal mesh technique.

This article describes the work of a clinical psychologist with the family of a polyhandicapped child described as 'the elder's child.' Psychological and ethnographic perspectives provide complementary approaches to investigating cultural meanings, social organization and cosmogony, which all influence clinical interaction with the family and provides tools for developing a therapeutic alliance.
