October 2022

Department of Small Animal Surgery and Anesthesia, Nantes-Atlantic College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering (ONIRIS), 44307 Nantes, France.

Only three laryngeal transplants have been described in the literature to date, and none of the techniques has enabled a completely satisfactory functional result to be obtained. This article presents a new model of laryngeal transplantation, with quality of revascularisation of the transplant being the principal objective and optimisation of the various steps of the procedure, with the integration of a new reinnervation technique as a secondary objective. We present a preclinical animal study.

Ice polymorphs show extraordinary structural diversity depending on pressure and temperature. The behavior of hydrogen-bond disorder not only is a key ingredient for their structural diversity but also controls their physical properties. However, it has been a challenge to determine the details of the disordered structure in ice polymorphs under pressure, because of the limited observable reciprocal space and inaccuracies related to high-pressure techniques.

The ESX-4 substrates, EsxU and EsxT, modulate Mycobacterium abscessus fitness.

PLoS Pathog

August 2022

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique UMR 9004, Institut de Recherche en Infectiologie de Montpellier (IRIM), Université de Montpellier, Montpellier, France.

ESX type VII secretion systems are complex secretion machineries spanning across the mycobacterial membrane and play an important role in pathogenicity, nutrient uptake and conjugation. We previously reported the role of ESX-4 in modulating Mycobacterium abscessus intracellular survival. The loss of EccB4 was associated with limited secretion of two effector proteins belonging to the WXG-100 family, EsxU and EsxT, and encoded by the esx-4 locus.
