Pooled analysis of studies on DNA adducts and dietary vitamins.

Objectives: There is some evidence that dietary components that are rich in antioxidant and vitamins are inversely associated with DNA adduct levels induced by environmental carcinogens such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, although the epidemiologic data are inconsistent. This study addresses the association between vitamins, DNA adducts and smoking.

Methods: A combined analysis of individual data on the association between bulky DNA adducts and dietary vitamins was conducted.

The effects of enrichment of medical oxygen O2 with traces of ROS on various cells were tested in experiments.

Methods: Human embryonic lung fibroblasts WI38 damaged by Radon Rn222 into WI38/ Rn cells and WI38 cells transformed by virus SV40 into VA13 cells were exposed to different ROS gas mixtures, prepared in high - voltage plasma chamber of "Oxygen Ion 3000".

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-positive innervation of the guinea-pig spleen.

The presence and intraorgan distribution of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-positive nerve structures in the guinea-pig spleen were studied by means of the direct thiocholine method. Visualized AChE-positive nerve fibres entered the guinea-pig spleen at its hilum in the vicinity of the splenic artery branches and intra parenchyma were gradually distributed to form thicker periarterial nerves and also fine adventitial nerve plexus. In described topography the AChE-positive nerve fibres were identified in association with the central artery running through the white pulp.

Butyrylcholinesterase-positive innervation of the spleen in rats.

Innervation of the spleen in rats was studied. Butyrylcholinesterase-(BuChE)-positive nerve components of the organ were visualized by the direct thiocholine method. BuChE-positive nerve components enter the spleen in a common bundle with arteries.

From 1975 to 1985 the author performed experimental transplantations of islets isolated by collagenase digestion through injection into the liver through the portal vein, or by transplantation of minced neonatal pancreases under the renal capsule of alloxan or spreptozotocin into severely chronic diabetic rats and mice. Comparative study of the topographic localization of NADPH diaphorase positive cells in the rabbit and pheasant thymuses.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogen phosphatediaphorase (NADPHd) histochemistry was used as a marker for nitric oxide synthase (NOS). In the rabbit thymus, NADPHd staining was observed between the capsule and corticomedullary junction in radially oriented blood vessels in the cortex. The new Quality Control Program in Immunophenotyping for Central Europe (CEQUAL) was created in 1993. Its first formal send-around proficiency exercise, consisting of a stained stabilised preparation of leukocytes, took place in November 1993.
