Background: Identifying appropriate patients for same-day discharge (SDD) total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is critical for maintaining optimal patient safety and outcomes. This study investigated patient outcomes after SDD TJA at a single ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and proposes a TJA patient-selection algorithm based on findings and existing literature.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of 660 patients was performed between July 2019 and October 2021 for all patients who underwent primary TJA in a single ASC.

The authors provide a simple primer for hand surgeons to further educate themselves on the basics of investing, tax reduction strategies that are completely legal, insurance protection, especially in your formative years, and unusual options available for further consideration. There are many ways for further education including publications related to finance, investment clubs of like-minded individuals, mentors that have extensive experience in these areas, and formal courses sponsored by business schools or other venues. The opportunities and regulatory environment are ever-changing, so one needs to constantly keep up with taxation rules and newer investment options.

Context: Understanding former professional football players engagement with health promoting behaviors (physical exercise, high quality diet, and good sleep hygiene) will be helpful for developing lifestyle interventions to improve their feelings of well-being, a relatively understudied facet of health among this population.
Objective: Examine associations among health-promoting behaviors and subjective outcomes related to well-being among former National Football League (NFL) players.
Design: Cross-sectional.
Background: Surgical treatment of insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) historically consists of Achilles tendon debridement with reattachment and excision of the posterosuperior calcaneal prominence with or without a gastrocnemius recession. Zadek osteotomy (ZO) is an alternative to an open midline splitting approach. The purpose of this study was to analyze patient-reported outcomes and complications after percutaneously performed ZO with minimum 2 years' follow-up.

Case: We present a case of a 39-year-old woman at 23 weeks gestation who sustained traumatic both-column acetabular fracture and protrusio acetabuli, managed with initial traction and delayed total hip arthroplasty (THA) until after cesarean section delivery.
Conclusion: Initial skeletal traction with subsequent delayed THA may be a viable treatment option in select pregnant female patients who sustain both-column acetabular fractures. Interdisciplinary collaboration is necessary to optimize maternal-fetal health and provide patient education of procedural risk to enable informed decision making.

Chondrocyte-based cell therapy has been used for more than 30 years and is still considered to be a promising method of cartilage repair despite some limitations. This review introduces the latest developments of four generations of autologous chondrocyte implantation and current autologous chondrocyte products. The regeneration of cartilage from adult chondrocytes is limited by culture-induced dedifferentiation and patient age.

Introduction: The Zadek Osteotomy has been described as an effective technique for the treatment of insertional Achilles tendinopathy. Recently, this strategy has been modified using minimally invasive techniques. A learning curve has been observed in many minimally invasive procedures in foot and ankle surgery.

Background: Insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) is a common pathology with multiple surgical interventions available for treatment. The Zadek, dorsal closing wedge calcaneal osteotomy (ZO) has been demonstrated to be effective treatment of IAT. There have been various recommendations in the literature as to what measurement of wedge removal should be considered ideal to produce greatest postoperative range of motion (ROM), thus postoperative biomechanical potential.

Case: We report a rare case of mycobacterial periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after primary total knee arthroplasty 14 years earlier. Progressive knee pain over three years with a negative PJI infectious workup led to revision total knee arthroplasty. A surprising result was isolation of Mycobacterium avium from tissue cultures taken at time of revision surgery.

The immune system plays an integral role in the regulation of cellular processes responsible for fracture healing. Local and systemic influences on fracture healing correlate in many ways with fracture-related outcomes, including soft tissue healing quality and fracture union rates. Impaired soft tissue healing, restricted perfusion of a fracture site, and infection also in turn affect the immune response to fracture injury.

Background: Readmission rate after surgery is an important outcome measure in revealing disparities. This study aimed to examine how 30-day readmission rates and causes of readmission differ by race and specific injury areas within orthopaedic surgery.
Methods: The American College of Surgeon-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database was queried for orthopaedic procedures from 2015 to 2019.

Introduction: Intraosseous ganglion cysts are an uncommon variant found in the subchondral bone. We report here the development of an intraosseous ganglion cyst of the proximal tibia in the setting of a prior left total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with an all-polyethylene tibial component.
Case Report: The cyst was diagnosed on routine follow-up radiographs approximately 4 years status post-TKA.

Background Context: Among adult spinal deformity (ASD) patients, heterogeneity in patient pathology, surgical expectations, baseline impairments, and frailty complicates comparisons in clinical outcomes and research. This study aims to qualitatively segment ASD patients using machine learning-based clustering on a large, multicenter, prospectively gathered ASD cohort.

Recent studies have characterized various mouse antigen-presenting cells (APCs) expressing the lymphoid-lineage transcription factor RORγt (Retinoid-related orphan receptor gamma t), which exhibit distinct phenotypic features and are implicated in the induction of peripheral regulatory T cells (Tregs) and immune tolerance to microbiota and self-antigens. These APCs encompass Janus cells and Thetis cell subsets, some of which express the AutoImmune REgulator (AIRE). RORγt MHCII type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3) have also been implicated in the instruction of microbiota-specific Tregs.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to define the outcomes of patients following hip arthroscopy and to identify potential factors, found during hip arthroscopy, that were associated with patients' eventual conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: Patients who had undergone hip arthroscopy from January 2010 to January 2015 were retrospectively reviewed and patients were reported if they had a THA in the same hip. Patients were followed up to December 2022 resulting in between 7 and 12 years of follow-up.

Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become an incredibly common procedure due to its' predictability and high success rate. The success of surgery is related to strict indications and careful optimization of medical comorbidities to decrease risk and improve outcomes. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been associated with increased medical and surgical complications.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the standard of treatment for end-stage knee osteoarthritis. On January 1, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) officially removed TKA from their inpatient-only list. The clinical impact of this change is not fully understood yet.
