Objective: High disease activity status (HDAS) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with adverse long-term outcomes. We examined the frequency of lupus low disease activity state (LLDAS) and remission (REM) attainment in HDAS patients and whether their attainment was associated with improved patient outcomes.

Methods: Demographic, clinical and outcomes data, collected prospectively from a multinational cohort between 2013 and 2020, were analysed.

We hypothesized that persistent lifetime (PLT) images could represent tumor imaging traits, locations, and persistent contrasts of topological components (connected and hole components) corresponding to gene mutations such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutant signs. We aimed to develop a topological radiogenomic approach using PLT images to identify EGFR mutation-positive patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The PLT image was newly proposed to visualize the locations and persistent contrasts of the topological components for a sequence of binary images with consecutive thresholding of an original computed tomography (CT) image.

Limited studies are available on the outcome of infants with trisomy-21 and pulmonary hypertension (PHT) in lower- and middle-income countries. This population-based cohort study aims to determine the outcome and survival from birth to 5 years of infants with trisomy-21 and PHT born between 2016 and 2021. The mortality rate and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were calculated to assess survival rates at 1 and 5 years.

Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is an established technique for lung cancer staging and the diagnosis of mediastinal diseases. Recently, the paradigm of EBUS guided mediastinal sampling with conventional cytology has shifted over to histology specimens through the use of cryobiopsy. This case series explores the novel technique, key enablers, and potential advantages of endoscopic ultrasound with bronchoscope-guided transesophageal cryobiopsy (EUS-B-TEC).

December 2024

Collaborative Drug Discovery Research (CDDR) Group, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Kampus Puncak Alam, 42300, Bandar Puncak Alam, Malaysia.

The present study explored for the first time the blood-based proteomic signature that could potentially distinguish older adults with and without cognitive frailty (CF). The participants were recruited under the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research (MELoR) study. Cognition and physical frailty were determined using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Fried's criteria, respectively.

Tungsten oxide (WO) nanoparticles (WONPs) were prepared using beetroot (Beta vulgaris) extract. The synthesis was optimized by evaluating the effect of pH during the reduction of the WO precursor and sintering temperature. Physicochemical characterization of the formed nanoparticles was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-visible diffuse reflectance UV-visible spectroscopy.

This article aims to develop a novel Artificial Intelligence-powered Internet of Things (AI-powered IoT) system that can automatically monitor the conditions of the plant (crop) and apply the necessary action without human interaction. The system can remotely send a report on the plant conditions to the farmers through IoT, enabling them for tracking the healthiness of plants. Chili plant has been selected to test the proposed AI-powered IoT monitoring and actuating system as it is so sensitive to the soil moisture, weather changes and can be attacked by several types of diseases.

The benthic pennate diatom Nitzschia navis-varingica, known for producing domoic acid (DA) and its isomers, is widely distributed in the Western Pacific (WP) region. To investigate the genetic differentiation and gene flow patterns among the populations in the WP, the genetic diversity of 354 strains of N. navis-varingica was analysed using two nuclear-encoded rDNA loci: the large subunit rDNA (LSU rDNA) and the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2).
