Glucocorticoids are important for proper organ maturation, and their levels are tightly regulated during development. Here, we use human cerebral organoids and mice to study the cell-type-specific effects of glucocorticoids on neurogenesis. We show that glucocorticoids increase a specific type of basal progenitors (co-expressing PAX6 and EOMES) that has been shown to contribute to cortical expansion in gyrified species.

Psychosocial stress is increasing, causing a growing number of people to suffer from hair loss. Stress-related corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is associated with hair loss, but the mechanism by which hair follicles respond to stress and CRH remain poorly understood. The aim of the study is to elucidate the association between CRH and stress-related hair regenerative disorders, and reveal the potential pathological mechanisms.

The process of integrating information from different sensory channels, known as multisensory integration (MSI) was assessed in two disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Schizophrenia (SCZ). 32 healthy controls (HC), 35 SCZ patients, and 23 ASD patients performed an audiovisual (AV) synchronous target detection task while reaction time (RT) and scalp recorded electrophysiological (EEG) activity were measured. MSI in the AV condition resulted in faster and less variable RTs compared to the unimodal conditions.

We investigated the potential of machine learning for diagnostic classification in late-life major depression based on an advanced whole brain white matter segmentation framework. Twenty-six late-life depression and 12 never depressed individuals aged > 55 years, matched for age, MMSE, and education underwent brain diffusion tensor imaging and a multi-contrast, multi-atlas segmentation in MRIcloud. Fractional anisotropy volume, mean fractional anisotropy, trace, axial and radial diffusivity (RD) extracted from 146 white matter parcels for each subject were used to train and test the AdaBoost classifier using stratified 12-fold cross validation.

Background: Mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea (mmOSA) is highly prevalent in the general population. However, studies on its association with incident cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular disease (CBVD) are limited. We examined the association between mild-to-moderate OSA and incident cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular (CBVD) in a general population sample, and whether age modifies this association.

Objective: Currently, there are discrepant results regarding the quantitative effect of psoriasis on sleep, which may, in part, be attributed to the use of non-standardised questionnaires.
Methods: The PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched for cross-sectional, case-control or cohort studies that recruited patients with psoriasis and healthy controls and reported data regarding Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the prevalence of sleep disturbance (SD) based on the PSQI, published from inception up to January 2023. Secondary outcomes included scores for the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and risk for restless legs syndrome (RLS).
