Available evidence suggests that various medical/rehabilitation treatments evoke multiple effects on blood hemostasis. It was therefore the aim of our study to examine whether fascial manipulation, vibration exercise, motor imagery, or neuro-muscular electrical stimulation can activate the coagulation system, and, thereby, expose patients to thrombotic risk. Ten healthy young subject were enrolled in the study.

Research Question: What are the effects of pipette- versus laser-assisted artificial blastocyst collapse (ABC) on the morphokinetics of warmed blastocyst re-expansion, and what is the potential effect on treatment outcomes?
Design: Surplus blastocysts were extracted from 203 patients. These were divided into three groups: study group A, artificial collapsed by the aspiration of blastocoel fluid with a pipette; study group B, trophectoderm opened with a laser pulse; control group, no manipulation before vitrification was performed. During the 5-year study period, 257 associated single-warm blastocyst transfers were scheduled.

Background: A mnemonic is a cognitive aid frequently used in health-related education. The main goal of this study was to develop and test a 5-finger mnemonic for teaching schoolchildren the theoretical aspects of adult Basic Life Support (BLS) steps, a process rarely described in the context of instructing laypersons.
Methods: Experts from the European Resuscitation Council's Basic Life Support Science and Education Committee (ERC BLS SEC), specializing in teaching adult BLS, participated in the first phase of the pilot study.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) based on different formulas is commonly used as a bedside tool to assess kidney function in children and young adults. The purpose of this study was to perform a measurement of glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) with a standard 5-point protocol using iohexol clearance and compare it to a simplified protocol for mGFR determination and to some of the most commonly used eGFR formulas. A 5-point standard protocol using iohexol clearance was used for determination of mGFR in 50 children with mild stages of CKD.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), impacting approximately 2% of adults worldwide, presents a formidable challenge in psychiatric diagnostics. Often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, BPD is associated with high morbidity and mortality. This scoping review embarks on a comprehensive exploration of observable cues in BPD, encompassing language patterns, speech nuances, facial expressions, nonverbal communication, and physiological measurements.

Background: Underlying immunological mechanisms in children with moderate-to-severe asthma are complex and unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between blood inflammatory parameters and asthma burden in children with moderate-to-severe asthma.
Methods: Blood inflammatory parameters (eosinophil and neutrophil counts and inflammatory mediators using multiplex immunoassay technology) were measured in children (6-17 years) with moderate-to-severe asthma from the SysPharmPediA cohort across four European countries.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a well-established risk factor for incident atherosclerotic cardiovascular (CV) disease. However, evidence regarding its association with recurrent events is limited. To address this gap, we conducted a retrospective analysis of routine clinical data, focusing on patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) between 2000 and 2022 with available admission Lp(a) results.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common cause of infection in immunocompromised individuals, such as patients with hematological malignancies or AIDS, but can also occur in patients with other acquired immunodeficiencies. In tissue-invasive diseases, CMV diagnosis requires CMV DNA in the plasma and the histological confirmation of CMV in a tissue or organ. Evidence of CMV colitis requires a characteristic endoscopic picture with ulcers with a well-defined, convex appearance and CMV viral inclusions in the form of an "owl's eye" on mucosal sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin.

Reoperations due to dysfunction of artificial mechanical aortic valves represent a complex and high-risk surgical procedure, particularly for elderly patients. In this report, we present a case of an 81-year-old female patient where, due to structural degeneration of the mechanical valve, an emergency surgical procedure was indicated. After the removal of the valve leaflets, a sutureless aortic valve was implanted within the mechanical ring.

Aims: ZSF1 obese rats harbouring two mutant leptin receptor alleles (Lepr and Lepr) develop metabolic syndrome and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), making them a widely used animal model in cardiometabolic research. Studies using ZSF1 rats have contributed significantly to the elucidation of pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HFpEF and therapeutic strategies against this multi-organ syndrome. In contrast, hybrid, lean ZSF1 rats (L-ZSF1) do not develop HFpEF and generally serve as controls, disregarding the possibility that the presence of one mutant Lepr allele might affect left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), diastolic dysfunction and other relevant HFpEF parameters, such as N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels and cardiac inflammation, which could increase during disease manifestation.

Background: Over the past decade, diabetes mellitus (DM) has emerged as a growing epidemic, with a direct link to an increased risk of hospitalization and a strong effect of glycemic control on clinical outcomes. The aim of this document was to critically appraise and adapt existing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to provide specific recommendations for the management of hyperglycemia in hospitalized adults with and without previously known DM, in an attempt to provide a practical tool to reduce the risk of major in-hospital complications.
Methods: The first step of the adaptation process was to identify unsolved clinical questions (PICOs) in hospitalized persons with hyperglycemia.

Background: The initial trials on angiotensin II (AT II) administration indicated a high incidence of thrombocytopenia and thrombosis, as well as a positive correlation between hyperreninemia and response to the medication.
Case Summary: We describe a case of a patient presenting with catecholamine resistant septic shock, thrombocytopenia, deep vein thrombosis, and normal renin concentration who responded immediately to AT II treatment. We observed no worsening of thrombocytopenia and no progression of thrombosis or additional thromboses during treatment.

Autophagy is a highly conserved metabolic process that regulates cellular homeostasis and energy supply by degrading dysfunctional and excess cell constituents and reserve materials into products that are reused in metabolic and biosynthetic pathways. Macroautophagy is the best studied form of autophagy in invertebrates. Starvation is a common stress factor triggering autophagy in overwintering animals.

Background And Objectives: Polymeric clamp-like devices present potential advantages regarding plates and screws to close craniotomies; however, no clinical research has provided enough evidence to compare them. This randomized controlled trial compares the clinical safety and performance of clamp-like devices with the standard of care for craniotomy closure: titanium plates and screws (P&S).
Methods: A prospective, double-arm, multicenter randomized controlled trial was performed at 3 sites, recruiting 60 patients undergoing neurosurgical interventions requiring craniotomy.
