Orofacial clefts are the most common congenital anomaly of the face, and they significantly affect appearance. The combined effects of demographics, psychology, neurophysiology, and cleft characteristics to explain satisfaction with appearance in young people with a cleft have not yet been comprehensively studied in an interdisciplinary manner. We found that interpersonal difficulties, age, and conscientiousness were significant explanatory factors for satisfaction with appearance (t = -3.

According to the European Union (EU) Directive 2005/36, the medical specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) exists with two possible formats: dual degree OMFS called Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (DOMFS) - basic medical and basic dental training and single medical degree Maxillofacial Surgery (MFS). Within the EU and across all of Europe, differences in the nature and quality of OMFS training coexist. By implementing the highest possible standards of training, patient care can be improved.

Various techniques have been used in attempts to reduce interfering gastrointestinal activity in myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI); however, these approaches have yielded inconsistent results. The goal of this study was to investigate the efficacy of monitored walking, a previously unexplored technique, in reducing subdiaphragmatic activity-related artifacts during pharmacologic stress Tc-tetrofosmin MPI with SPECT to improve the overall image quality. The study included patients who underwent MPI with pharmacologic stress.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of emergency and prophylactic uterine artery embolization (UAE) in our clinical practice, including technical success, clinical success, and associated complications.
Patients And Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed 64 women who underwent emergency ( =18) and prophylactic ( = 46) UAE. Indications for emergency UAE included postpartum hemorrhage or severe hemorrhage during pregnancy termination, while prophylactic UAE was performed prior to surgical removal of retained products of conception (RPOC), delivery with abnormal placental implantation, or pregnancy termination (cervical pregnancy or fetal anomalies accompanied by abnormal placental implantation).

Background: To review the characteristics of all Slovenian patients with ocular adnexal lymphoma (OAL) in the period of 24 years with the aim of evaluating demographic data, lymphoma location and type, disease stage, treatment modality, local control rate and survival rate.
Patients And Methods: All patients with histologically diagnosed OAL in the main tertiary centre of Slovenia, Eye Hospital, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, who were treated at Institute of Oncology Ljubljana were included in the study. Patients' data were collected from October 1995 through April 2019.

Background: Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with single photon emission computed tomography is an established non-invasive technique for assessing myocardial ischemia. This method involves the intravenous administration of a radiopharmaceutical that accumulates in the heart muscle proportional to regional blood flow. However, image quality and diagnostic accuracy can be compromised by various technical and patient-related factors, including high non-specific radiopharmaceutical uptake in abdominal organs such as the stomach, intestines, liver, and gall-bladder, leading to subdiaphragmatic artifacts.

Background: Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) can assess tumour vascularity, which depends on the process of angiogenesis and affects tumour response to treatment. Our study explored the associations between DCE-MRI parameters and the expression of plasma angiogenic factors in human papilloma virus (HPV)-negative oropharyngeal cancer, as well as their predictive value for response to concurrent chemoradiotherapy (cCRT).
Patients And Methods: Twenty-five patients with locally advanced HPV-negative oropharyngeal carcinoma were prospectively enrolled in the study.

Reliable gene expression analysis in bone remodeling studies requires an appropriate selection of internal controls, stable reference genes for the normalization of quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR), the most common method used for quantifying gene expression measurements. Even the most widely used reference genes can have variable expression under different experimental conditions, or in different tissue types or treatment regimes, so selecting appropriate controls is a key step in ensuring reliable results. The aim of this research was to identify the most stable reference gene(s) for the study of olanzapine modulated bone remodeling in rats.

Objectives: (1) characterizing a group of spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients with systemic auto-inflammatory symptoms (S-SpA); (2) comparing SpA features with and without auto-inflammatory symptoms; (3) comparing the auto-inflammatory features of S-SpA and Still's disease (SD).
Methods: Retrospective observational study. Clinical data of adult and pediatric patients with S-SpA, SD or SpA were collected retrospectively and analyzed.

Myocardial strain imaging by echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is a powerful method to diagnose cardiac disease. Strain imaging provides measures of myocardial shortening, thickening, and lengthening and can be applied to any cardiac chamber. Left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain by speckle-tracking echocardiography is the most widely used clinical strain parameter.

This prospective cohort study assessed the SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgA Ab profiles at delivery and 42 d postpartum in unvaccinated SARS-CoV-2-positive pregnant women and determined the association with the timing and the clinical course of the infection. A total of 387 vaccine-naive women with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy were included. IgG and IgA Abs were detected in maternal blood at delivery and 42 d postpartum using ELISA kits.

Profound and transient thrombocytopenia of functional platelets without bleeding was observed in patients envenomed by (). This condition was rapidly reversed by administration of F(ab) fragments of immunoglobulin G targeting the whole venom, leaving platelets fully functional. To investigate the potential role of snake venom C-type lectin-like proteins (snaclecs) in this process, -snaclecs were isolated from the crude venom using different liquid chromatographies.

Introduction: Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is the most commonly diagnosed mitochondrial disorder, resulting in colour vision abnormalities and rapid but painless deterioration of central vision. While numerous studies have assessed the impact of LHON on the quality of life (QoL) of LHON patients, the financial impact of the disease remains unexplored. This study attempts to calculate both the direct non-medical costs and the indirect costs associated with productivity losses experienced by people with LHON and their unpaid caregivers in Slovenia, in addition to assessing their QoL.

Pathogenic variants in the CEP290 gene may result in a broad spectrum of diseases, ranging from lethal neonatal syndromes to isolated retinopathy. A detailed review of the clinical spectrum with the incidence of affected extraocular systems has not yet been published. A review of published papers was carried out to provide a comprehensive report on systemic signs and symptoms associated with CEP290 ciliopathies and to explore the genotype-phenotype correlation.

: Most patients who are successfully resuscitated from cardiac arrest remain comatose, and only half regain consciousness 72 h after the arrest. Neuroprognostication methods can be complex and even inconclusive. As mitochondrial components have been identified as markers of post-cardiac-arrest injury and associated with survival, we aimed to investigate cytochrome c and mtDNA in comatose patients after cardiac arrest to compare neurological outcomes and to evaluate the markers' neuroprognostic value.

(1) Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality both in the general population and heart failure patients. Inflammation may promote the initiation, maintenance and perpetuation of AF, but the impact of inflammatory molecular signaling on the association between AF and heart failure remains elusive. (2) In 111 patients with chronic stable heart failure, baseline values of conventional (IL-6 and hsCRP) and selected novel inflammatory biomarkers (IL-10, IL-6/IL-10 ratio, orosomucoid and endocan) were determined.
