Background: There is almost no data on the combined associations between apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) genotypes, trace elements (TEs), and lipid peroxidation in vivo. The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between APOE genotypes and TE levels in blood (B-TEs) and erythrocytes (E-TEs), and 8-isoprostane in urine (U-8-isoprostane) in women with low exposure to potentially toxic TEs and with adequate supply of essential TEs.
Methods: B-TEs, E-TEs and U-8-isoprostane were determined in 172 healthy women of childbearing age (30.

Objective: There are noticeable sex differences in the treatment response to antihypertensives, with limited data on the response to single pill combinations. The aim of the PRECIOUS trial was to assess the treatment response to perindopril/amlodipine and perindopril/amlodipine/indapamide dual and triple single-pill combination in men and women.
Methods: Four hundred and forty adults with essential hypertension were assessed in the 16-week interventional, open-label, prospective, international, multicentre trial.

The curvature of the lumbar spine plays a critical role in maintaining spinal function, stability, weight distribution, and load transfer. We have developed a mathematical model of the lumbar spine curve by introducing a novel mechanism: minimization of the elastic bending energy of the spine with respect to two biomechanical parameters: dimensionless lumbosacral spinal curvature and dimensionless curvature increment along the spine CI. While most of the biomechanical studies focus on a particular segment of the spine, the distinction of the presented model is that it describes the shape of the thoracolumbar spine by considering it as a whole (non-locally) and thus includes interactions between the different spinal levels in a holistic approach.

With the increasing frequency and severity of disasters and the increasing number of patients living with kidney disease, on dialysis and with transplants around the world, the need for kidney care in humanitarian settings is increasing. Almost all humanitarian emergencies pose a threat to kidney health because all treatments are highly susceptible to interruption, and interruption can be deadly. Providing support for people requiring dialysis in humanitarian settings can be complex and is associated with many trade-offs.

High-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) is the most lethal of gynecological cancers in developed countries. It usually presents late with non-specific symptoms and most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, with 5-year overall survival being around 40%. Biomarkers for screening and early diagnosis of this aggressive disease are, thus, a research priority.

2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) is a glycolysis and protein N-glycosylation inhibitor with promising anti-tumor and immunomodulatory effects. However, 2DG can also suppress T cell function, including IFN-γ secretion. Few human T cell studies have studied low-dose 2DG, which can increase IFN-γ in a Jurkat clone.

Purpose: To describe and clarify a possible pathogenetic origin for choroidal caverns in young healthy individuals through a topographical analysis using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA).
Methods: A cross-sectional evaluation of 44 healthy volunteers (44 eyes), aged 20-32 years with no systemic or ocular comorbidities. The topographical analysis of choroidal caverns was performed through a 15 × 15 mm volumetric scan cube using SS-OCTA (PLEX Elite 9000).

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a unique condition that bridges autoimmunity and neurodegeneration. Since its initial description 10 years ago, an increasing number of autopsies has led to the observation of a broader spectrum of neuropathologies underlying a particular constellation of clinical symptoms. In this study, we describe the neuropathological findings in 22 patients with anti-IgLON5 disease from 9 different European centers.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the short- and long-term effects of foam rolling (FR) on the pressure pain threshold and the range of motion of the lumbar spine in healthy subjects.
Methods: 43 healthy subjects without back problems were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG) or a control group (CG). The subjects in the EG underwent a 4-week FR program (12 sessions).

Purpose: Engaging in clinical service development is a prerequisite for Interventional Radiology (IR) to prosper as a full clinical discipline. The CIRSE Clinical Services in IR Task Force conducted a survey of CIRSE members worldwide to assess the current status of their clinical practice and to identify areas of practice requiring further support.
Materials And Methods: An online questionnaire with 63 structured items was sent to 7,501 CIRSE members in November 2023.

Background: Global developmental delay (GDD) is a common pediatric disorder that affects up to 3% of children. Due to the heterogeneous etiology of GDD, diagnostic procedures and algorithms are complex and diverse. The aim of our study was to investigate the diagnostic yield of genetic, metabolic, and imaging studies in establishing the etiology of unexplained GDD (UGDD).

Oxidative stress is believed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). This meta-analysis aimed to identify and quantify the oxidative stress-related biomarkers in IBD and their associations with disease activity. We systematically searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, and Web of Science databases, identifying 54 studies for inclusion.

Introduction/aims: Changes in body composition in patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) can cause endocrine abnormalities that are insufficiently studied in adults. We aimed to assess the endocrine profile in a cohort of adults with SMA. Second, we compared body composition and endocrine profiles between nonambulatory and ambulatory patients and between different types of SMA.

Background: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the treatment of choice for the intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Doxorubicin remains the most used chemotherapeutic agent in TACE, although screening has demonstrated that idarubicin exhibits greater cytotoxicity against HCC. This study aimed to evaluate safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of idarubicin-loaded drug-eluting microspheres TACE (DEMIDA-TACE) in intermediate stage HCC patients.

Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this opinion is to review current evidence regarding postoperative management following endoscopic skull base surgery.
Recent Findings: Postoperative management encompasses consideration of level of care, laboratory tests, analgetic and antiemetic therapy, antibiotic, antithrombotic and antiepileptic prophylaxis, pharmacological and nonpharmacological cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure reduction measures, including CSF diversion, activity restrictions, nasal packing removal, nasal debridement and toilet, nasal glucocorticoid administration, positive pressure ventilation, imaging, CSF leak diagnosis, and future perspectives.
Summary: Although significant effort has been put into research of postoperative measures after endoscopic skull-base surgery, there is a heterogeneity of practices and deficit of high-level studies, which would enable highly powered systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most commonly detected congenital anomaly and affects up to 1% of all live-born neonates. Current guidelines support the use of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) as diagnostic approaches to identify genetic causes. The aim of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic yield of CMA and NGS in a cohort of neonates with both isolated and syndromic CHD.

Ovarian cancer (OC), particularly high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), is a leading cause of gynecological cancer mortality due to late diagnosis and chemoresistance. While studies on OC cell lines have shown that overexpression of the ATP7A membrane transporter correlates with resistance to platinum-based drugs (PtBMs) and cross-resistance to copper (Cu), clinical evidence is lacking. The functionality of ceruloplasmin (CP), the main Cu-transporting protein in the blood, is dependent on, among other things, ATP7A activity.
