Background: Several factors are frequently considered for outcome prediction rin stroke patients. We assessed the value of digital subtraction angiography (DSA)-based brain perfusion measurements after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for outcome prediction in acute ischaemic stroke.
Methods: From DSA image data (n = 90; 38 females; age 73.

Introduction: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the periodontium that can lead to the loss of affected teeth if left untreated. It is induced by a multifactorial process centered on microbial pathogens such as Fusobacterium nucleatum . Non-invasive physical plasma (NIPP), a highly reactive gas, has become a focus of research, not only for its hemostatic, proliferation-enhancing and apoptotic properties, but also for its antimicrobial potential.

Background: Reliable, noninvasive tools to diagnose at-risk metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) are urgently needed to improve management. We developed a risk stratification score incorporating proteomics-derived serum markers with clinical variables to identify high-risk patients with MASH (NAFLD activity score >4 and fibrosis score >2).
Methods: In this 3-phase proteomic study of biopsy-proven metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic fatty liver disease, we first developed a multi-protein predictor for discriminating NAFLD activity score >4 based on SOMAscan proteomics quantifying 1305 serum proteins from 57 US patients.

Background: An increasing number of HCC develops in the context of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and its inflammatory form, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, even in the absence of cirrhosis. Chronic metabolic inflammation is the driving force of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease progression and a key factor in hepatocarcinogenesis. Given the prominent role of IL-1 signaling in inflammation and metabolic diseases, we investigated the relevance of the hepatocyte-specific IL-1 receptor type 1 knockout in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis-related noncirrhotic HCC.

Aims: Conventional parameters of right ventricular (RV) function are load-dependent and therefore do not accurately reflect contractility in patients with relevant tricuspid regurgitation (TR). RV adaptability to load has been characterized using the Dandel's index in patients with heart failure, but its prognostic value in patients undergoing tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (T-TEER) has not been investigated so far.
Methods And Results: From the EuroTR registry (2019 to 2022), patients with complete datasets and a minimum of 2-years of follow-up were included.

Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis, University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany.
Platelets are important players in hemostasis. Alterations in platelet number and/or function lead to life-threatening conditions like thrombosis, myocardial infarction and stroke. During aging, changes at the cellular, organ and systemic level occur that affect platelet counts, platelet functionality, the expression of platelet surface receptors, clearance markers as well as their interactions with immune cells.

Purpose: Supination trauma is a common sports injury, and often leads to chronic ankle instability. This study analyses whether indications of healing can be detected 2 weeks after supination trauma.
Methods: This prospective, monocentric study at a German Medical Center examined patients with acute supination trauma.

During transsphenoidal surgery to remove pituitary adenomas, the structures of the skull base consisting of the dura mater and skull base bones are destroyed, making it crucial to restore the natural structure of the skull base. We crafted a dual-layer Janus fiber membrane utilizing the layer-by-layer electrospinning technique, comprising an osteoblast layer and a leak-proof antimicrobial layer. Specifically, RPG-1%PCPP radially aligned nanofibrous membranes (osteoblasts) can promote directional cell migration and facilitate cellular osteogenic differentiation.

Background: Uncertainty is a widespread phenomenon experienced worldwide. The bulk of existing research to date has focused on transitory or acute experiences of uncertainty, often in the particular context of illness. The current study evaluated the psychometric properties of the cross-contextual 40-item (long) and 20-item (short) Chronic Uncertainty scale (CU-40; CU-20).

Scientific discoveries often hinge on synthesizing decades of research, a task that potentially outstrips human information processing capacities. Large language models (LLMs) offer a solution. LLMs trained on the vast scientific literature could potentially integrate noisy yet interrelated findings to forecast novel results better than human experts.

This article investigates the transformative impact of 3D and bio 3D printing technologies in assisted reproductive technology (ART), offering a comprehensive review of their applications in improving reproductive outcomes. Following PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a thorough literature search focusing on the intersection of ART and additive manufacturing, resulting in the inclusion of 48 research papers. The study highlights bio 3D printing's potential in revolutionizing female infertility treatments, especially in follicle complex culture and ovary printing.

Aims: Right ventricular reverse remodelling (RVRR) is linked to improved survival in patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and right-sided heart failure who underwent interventional treatment. However, the role of residual TR on RVRR remains unclear. In this analysis the impact of residual TR on RVRR after interventional TR treatment, which was validated by two independent cohorts at four sites using echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, was investigated.

Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate a possible immunomodulatory role of the periodontopathogen Filifactor alocis through the antimicrobial peptide hBD-2 on the expression of chemokines in human gingival keratinocytes.
Materials And Methods: Cells were cultured in the presence or absence of periodontopathogenic bacteria, such as F. alocis, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Treponema denticola, to evaluate the regulation of hBD-2, CXCL8 and CCL20.

Essential tremor (ET) is one of the most common movement disorders in adults. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the ventralis intermediate nucleus (VIM) of the thalamus and/or the posterior subthalamic area (PSA) has been shown to provide significant tremor suppression in patients with ET, but with significant inter-patient variability and habituation to the stimulation. Several non-invasive neuromodulation techniques targeting other parts of the central nervous system, including cerebellar, motor cortex, or peripheral nerves, have also been developed for treating ET, but the clinical outcomes remain inconsistent.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are present in almost all tissues, where they act as sentinels involved in innate recognition and the initiation of adaptive immune responses. The DC family consists of several cell lineages that are heterogenous in their development, phenotype, and function. Within these DC lineages, further subdivisions exist, resulting in smaller, less characterized subpopulations, each with its unique immunomodulatory capabilities.

Objective: We examined the impact of the rs10191329 genetic risk variant on neuroaxonal damage as measured by serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) levels, and disability progression in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS).
Methods: In a cohort of pwMS (n = 740), 658 participants were prospectively monitored every 2 years for less than a decade while 82 of 740 pwMS were monitored retrospectively for up to 40 years. We investigated associations between rs10191329 variants and clinical outcome, including Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), disability accrual (defined by EDSS-increase of at least 1.
