Background And Aim: In this retrospective single center cohort study, we report the surgical outcomes of nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) for Wilms' tumor (WT) patients since centralization of pediatric oncology care in the Netherlands, and implementation of technological advancements. Therewith we describe the influence of experience and innovations for this type of surgery.
Methods: We retrospectively assessed all NSS procedures from January 1st 2015 until January 1st 2024 for patients who underwent surgery for a renal tumor at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.

Introduction: Ototoxicity is an adverse effect of childhood cancer treatment with a negative impact on speech-language development and quality of life. This study aimed to retrospectively assess ototoxicity monitoring in a national cohort of pediatric patients with solid tumors, examining the frequency and determinants associated with hearing loss (HL).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 305 patients treated between 2015 and 2020 at the Princess Máxima Center.

Background: Platina and taxanes are frequently used chemotherapeutic agents to treat cancer, also when diagnosed during pregnancy. This report presents an interim analysis of the largest series of children prenatally exposed to platinum and/or taxane agents and aims to determine their physical health and neurocognitive outcomes.
Methods: As part of a multicentre, prospective cohort study (ClinicalTrials.

Background: Pediatric oncology patients have increased risk for critical illness; outcomes are well described in high-income countries (HICs); however, data is limited for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CINAHL and Global Health databases for articles in 6 languages describing mortality in children with cancer admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) in LMICs. Two investigators independently assessed eligibility, data quality, and extracted data.

Objectives: The International Society of Paediatric Oncology-Renal Tumour Study Group (SIOP-RTSG) discourages invasive procedures to determine the histology of paediatric renal neoplasms at diagnosis. Therefore, the histological subtype of Wilms' tumours (WT) is unknown at the start of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. MR-DWI shows potential value as a non-invasive biomarker through apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs).

Busulfan exposure has previously been linked to clinical outcomes, hence the need for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Study objective was to evaluate the effect of day 1 TDM-guided dosing (regimen d1) versus days 1 + 2 TDM-guided dosing (regimen d1 + 2) on attaining adequate busulfan exposure. In this observational study, we included all adults who received an allogeneic HCT with intravenous once daily busulfan over 4 days as part of the conditioning regimen at the University Medical Centre Utrecht or between July 31, 2014 and November 12, 2021.

Objective: To evaluate in the Netherlands the national outcomes in providing cause of and insights into sudden and unexplained child deaths among children via the Postmortem Evaluation of Sudden Unexplained Death in Youth (PESUDY) procedure.
Study Design: Children aged 0-18 years in the Netherlands who died suddenly were included in the PESUDY procedure if their death was unexplained and their parents gave consent. The PESUDY procedure consists of pediatric and forensic examination, biochemical, and microbiological tests; radiologic imaging; autopsy; and multidisciplinary discussion.

Malignant renal tumors are rare in children, and Wilms tumors (WTs) are the most common subtype. Imaging plays an essential role in the diagnosis, staging, and follow-up of these patients. Initial workup for staging is mainly performed by cross-sectional imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Malignant renal tumors account for approximately 6% of pediatric malignancies, with Wilms tumor (WT) representing approximately 90% of pediatric renal tumors. This paper provides consensus-based imaging guidelines for the initial evaluation of a child with suspected WT and follow-up during and after therapy co-developed by the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Diagnostic Imaging and Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) oncology committees. The guidelines for Wilms Tumor Imaging in the Society of International Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) are briefly discussed to highlight some of the differences in imaging approach.

Background Plasma biomarkers may aid in the detection of anthracycline-related cardiomyopathy (ACMP). However, the currently available biomarkers have limited diagnostic value in long-term childhood cancer survivors. This study sought to identify diagnostic plasma biomarkers for ACMP in childhood cancer survivors.

Background And Objective: Genetic analysis is emerging for interstitial lung diseases (ILDs); however, ILD practices are not yet standardized. We surveyed patients', relatives' and pulmonologists' experiences and needs on genetic testing in ILD to evaluate the current situation and identify future needs.
Methods: A clinical epidemiologist (MT) together with members of the ERS taskforce and representatives of the European Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and related disorders Federation (EU-IPFF) patient organisation developed a survey for patients, relatives and pulmonologists.

Nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) in Wilms tumor (WT) patients is a surgically challenging procedure used in highly selective cases only. Virtual resections can be used for preoperative planning of NSS to estimate the remnant renal volume (RRV) and to virtually mimic radical tumor resection. In this single-center evaluation study, virtual resection for NSS planning and the user experience were evaluated.

Intravenous busulfan is widely used as part of myeloablative conditioning regimens in children and young adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Hepatic veno-occlusive disease/sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (VOD/SOS) is a serious clinical problem observed with busulfan-based conditioning HCT. The development of VOD/SOS may be associated with busulfan exposure.

Use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in children receiving haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and immune effector cell therapy is controversial and evidence-based guidelines have not been established. Remarkable advancements in HCT and immune effector cell therapies have changed expectations around reversibility of organ dysfunction and survival for affected patients. Herein, members of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) Network (HCT and cancer immunotherapy subgroup), the Pediatric Diseases Working Party of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), the supportive care committee of the Pediatric Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Consortium (PTCTC), and the Pediatric Intensive Care Oncology Kids in Europe Research (POKER) group of the European Society of Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC) provide consensus recommendations on the use of ECMO in children receiving HCT and immune effector cell therapy.

Hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, also known as veno-occlusive disease, can occur as a complication of myeloablative chemotherapy, as a result of low-intensity chemotherapy-related liver toxicity or radiotherapy of the liver. Symptoms of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome can range from asymptomatic to liver dysfunction or severe disease with life-threatening acute multi-organ failure. Imaging features can suggest or support this clinical diagnosis.

Background: Ototoxicity is a common adverse event of cisplatin treatment. The authors investigated the development of cisplatin-induced hearing loss (CIHL) over time in children with cancer by age and examined the influence of other clinical characteristics on the course of CIHL.
Methods: Data from Canadian patients with childhood cancer were retrospectively reviewed.
