Immune activation status determines non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis, with reported positive/negative associations for T helper type 2 (TH2) responses, including allergen-specific IgE and eosinophils. Background: Immunotherapies for malignant melanoma are challenged by the resistance developed in a significant proportion of patients. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC), with their ability to inhibit antitumor T-cell responses, are a major contributor to immunosuppression and resistance to immune checkpoint therapies in melanoma. Damage-associated molecular patterns S100A8, S100A9, and HMGB1, acting as toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) and receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) ligands, are highly expressed in the tumor microenvironment and drive MDSC activation.

The diagnosis of Sézary syndrome (SS) relies on the identification of blood Sézary cells (SC) by different markers via flow cytometry. Treatment of SS is challenging since its pathogenesis is characterized by cell death resistance rather than hyperproliferation. In this study, we establish an integrated approach that considers both the expression of SC markers and sensitivity to cell death both spontaneously and upon in vitro treatment.

Introduction: Systematic evaluations focusing on the perception of body image and social support in relation to quality of life (QoL) outcomes in patients radical cystectomy (RC) with urinary diversion (UD) are currently lacking. This study investigated the relationship between body image perception, social support, and QoL in bladder cancer patients who underwent RC with UD.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using validated general oncology tools to assess QoL in relation to newly implemented tools assessing body image perception and social support.

However, data used to quantify mobilization are predominantly based on self-assessments, for which the accuracy is uncertain. The progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is significantly affected by transforming growth factor (TGF)-β but targeting TGF-β can also compromize physiological effects in patients. Our study examined the functions of the ubiquitously expressed protein, PDCD10, as a modulator of TGF-β signaling in PDAC. Using in silico analyses we found that in patient samples, PDCD10 is significantly higher expressed in PDAC tumor tissue compared with normal pancreas and it is highly correlated with reduced survival.

The optimal strategy for positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) titration in the management of severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients remains unclear. Current guidelines emphasize the importance of a careful risk-benefit assessment for PEEP titration in terms of cardiopulmonary function in these patients. Over the last few decades, the primary goal of PEEP usage has shifted from merely improving oxygenation to emphasizing lung protection, with a growing focus on the individual pattern of lung injury, lung and chest wall mechanics, and the hemodynamic consequences of PEEP.

Low-dose antiangiogenic therapies have demonstrated the ability to enhance normalization of tumor vessels, consequently improving hypoxia levels, drug delivery, and promoting anticancer immune responses. Mast cells have been identified as contributors to resistance against antiangiogenic therapy and facilitators of abnormal neoangiogenesis. In this study, we demonstrate that by simultaneously targeting intratumoral mast cells with Imatinib and administering low-dose anti-VEGFR2 therapy, antitumor efficacy can be enhanced in preclinical models.

Objective: Bone metastases are very common in advanced prostate cancer and can sensitively be detected utilizing PSMA-PET/CT. Therefore, our goal was to evaluate the suitability of PSMA-PET/CT-guided metastasis-directed external beam radiotherapy (MDT) as treatment option for patients with biochemical recurrence and oligometastatic bone lesions.
Materials & Methods: We retrospectively examined 32 prostate cancer patients with biochemical recurrence and PSMA-positive oligometastatic disease limited to the bone (n = 1-3).

Objective: To assess and compare the value of antenatally determined observed-to-expected (O/E) lung-area-to-head-circumference ratio (LHR) on ultrasound examination vs O/E total fetal lung volume (TFLV) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination to predict postnatal survival of fetuses with isolated, expectantly managed left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective study including all consecutive fetuses with isolated CDH that were managed expectantly in Mannheim, Germany, and in five other European centers, that underwent at least one ultrasound examination for measurement of O/E-LHR and one MRI scan for measurement of O/E-TFLV during pregnancy. All MRI data were centralized, and lung volumes were measured by two experienced operators blinded to the pre- and postnatal data.
