Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer-related death in patients with solid tumours. Current imaging technologies are not sufficiently sensitive to detect minimal residual disease (MRD; also known as measurable or molecular residual disease) after initial surgery or chemotherapy, pointing to the need for more sensitive tests to detect remaining traces of cancer in the body. Liquid biopsy, or the analysis of tumour-derived or tumour-induced cells or cellular products in the blood or other body fluids, has opened a new diagnostic avenue to detect and monitor MRD.

Dynamic structural biology enables studying biological events at the atomic scale from 10's of femtoseconds to a few seconds duration. With the advent of X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs) and 4th generation synchrotrons, serial crystallography is becoming a major player for time-resolved experiments in structural biology. Despite significant progress, challenges such as obtaining sufficient amounts of protein to produce homogeneous microcrystal slurry, remain.

Deep brain stimulation can influence the speech and voice quality in Parkinson´s disease (PD). This controlled, randomized, double-blind, cross-over clinical trial was conducted in 15 PD patients with bilateral subthalamic deep brain stimulation (DBS) to compare the effects of STN-DBS with combined subthalamic and nigral stimulation (STN + SNr-DBS) and DBS OFF on speech and voice parameters in PD patients. Speech and voice were analyzed subjectively using questionnaires (voice/pronunciation quality VAS, VHI, SHI) and objectively using audio analysis (maximum phonation time, AVQI, mean F0, intonation, syllable rate, reading time).

Recent years have seen an explosion of interest in naturalistic behaviour and in machine learning tools for automatically tracking it. However, questions about what to measure, how to measure it, and how to relate naturalistic behaviour to neural activity and cognitive processes remain unresolved. In this Perspective, we propose a general experimental and computational framework - kinematic coding - for measuring how information about cognitive states is encoded in structured patterns of behaviour and how this information is read out by others during social interactions.

The present study analyses the technical requirements as well as the user behaviour of seafarers for an app-based health prevention, including apps for wellness, prevention, fitness, medical care and mental well-being. In a maritime field study 976 seafarers on 65 merchant ships participated in the survey carried out with a questionnaire. The vast majority (98.

Background: Atrial fibrillation is associated with cognitive dysfunction. Atrial cardiomyopathy has been correlated with both entities. We aimed to characterize the association of echocardiographic parameters of atrial cardiomyopathy with cognitive function and cerebral changes.

Human atrial myocytes afford an attractive experimental model to investigate mechanisms underlying electrophysiological alterations in cardiovascular disease. However, this model presents limitations, such as the availability of human atrial tissue and a variable yield of myocytes isolation. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether overnight storage can increase the time window where the electrophysiological properties of human atrial myocytes can be determined.

Background: Forming an emotional bond towards the infant is an important developmental aspect of the mother-child relationship. Two questionnaires frequently used for the assessment of mother-infant bonding, namely the Maternal Postnatal Attachment Scale (MPAS) and the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ), have shown inconclusive psychometric properties. To ensure comparability of results across studies, it is crucial to examine the replicability of psychometric properties and previously proposed factor structures of measurements when adapted to other languages.

Purpose: Deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) hold promise for assisting the interpretation of dopamine transporter (DAT)-SPECT. For improved communication of uncertainty to the user it is crucial to reliably discriminate certain from inconclusive cases that might be misclassified by strict application of a predefined decision threshold on the CNN output. This study tested two methods to incorporate existing label uncertainty during the training to improve the utility of the CNN sigmoid output for this task.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression and/or ERBB2 gene amplification occurs in approximately 15-20% of breast cancers and is associated with poor prognosis. While the introduction of HER2-targeted therapies has significantly improved survival in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, the incidence of brain metastases has increased due to patients living longer. Current recommendations sequence treatments by line of therapy, as well as by the status of brain metastases in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer.

The axolotl, known for its remarkable regenerative abilities, is an excellent model for studying regenerative therapies. Nevertheless, the precise molecular mechanisms governing its regenerative potential remain uncertain. In this study, we collected samples from axolotls of different ages, including 8-year-old individuals and 8-month-old juveniles, obtaining their blastemas 10 days after amputation.

Host iron deficiency is protective against severe malaria as the human malaria parasite depends on bioavailable iron from its host to proliferate. The essential pathways of iron acquisition, storage, export, and detoxification in the parasite differ from those in humans, as orthologs of the mammalian transferrin receptor, ferritin, or ferroportin, and a functional heme oxygenase are absent in . Thus, the proteins involved in these processes may be excellent targets for therapeutic development, yet remain largely unknown.

PAX6 immunohistochemistry (IHC) was proposed as a tool to identify a pancreatic origin of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). To evaluate the diagnostic utility of PAX6 IHC, a tissue microarray containing 19,214 samples from 150 tumor types was analyzed. Data on progesterone receptor (PR) and glutamate decarboxylase 2 (GAD2) expression were available from previous studies.

Background: Associations between longitudinal changes of plasma biomarkers and cerebral magnetic resonance (MR)-derived measurements in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remain unclear.
Methods: In a study population (n = 127) of healthy older adults and patients within the AD continuum, we examined associations between longitudinal plasma amyloid beta 42/40 ratio, tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-tau181), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neurofilament light chain (NfL), and 7T structural and functional MR imaging and spectroscopy using linear mixed models.
Results: Increases in both p-tau181 and GFAP showed the strongest associations to 7T MR-derived measurements, particularly with decreasing parietal cortical thickness, decreasing connectivity of the salience network, and increasing neuroinflammation as determined by MR spectroscopy (MRS) myo-inositol.

The arousal systems of the brainstem, specifically the locus coeruleus-noradrenaline system, respond "phasically" during decisions. These central arousal transients are accompanied by dilations of the pupil. Mechanistic attempts to understand the impact of phasic arousal on cognition would benefit from temporally precise experimental manipulations.
