Objective: The aim was to evaluate the sustainability of the pancreatic Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program and the effect of ERAS items on patient morbidity and hospital stay.
Background: The current ERAS guideline recommendations encompass 27 items to improve recovery after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD).
Methods: Patients who underwent pancreatic resection at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf between February 2016 and June 2023 were included.

Objective: There is a shortage of established prognostic biomarkers in bladder cancer. One candidate is tumour protein 63 (p63), a transcription factor of the p53 gene family that is expressed in the normal urothelium. Recently proposed RNA expression-based molecular classifiers of bladder cancer identified high p63 expression as a component of a basal/squamous subtype linked to poor patient prognosis.

Information on late complications in patients with acute leukemia who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is limited. We performed a left-truncated analysis of long-term survival in patients with acute leukemia who were alive and disease-free 2 years after HCT. We included 2701 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 9027 patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who underwent HCT between 2005 and 2012.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a stroke risk factor that often remains undetected at hospital admission. Long-term Holter monitoring helps to identify patients with previously unrecognized AF. Asymmetric (ADMA) and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) are elevated in AF in cross-sectional studies.

Background: Short and rare episodes of atrial fibrillation (AF) are commonly detected using implanted devices (device-detected AF) in patients with prior stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulation in patients with prior stroke or TIA and device-detected AF but with no ECG-documented AF is unclear.
Methods And Results: This prespecified analysis of the NOAH-AFNET 6 (Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants in Patients With Atrial High Rate Episodes) trial with post hoc elements assessed the effect of oral anticoagulation in patients with device-detected AF with and without a prior stroke or TIA in the randomized, double-blind, double-dummy NOAH-AFNET 6 trial.

Background: Biomarkers simplifying the diagnostic workup by discriminating between non-ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and infarct-like myocarditis are an unmet clinical need.
Methods And Results: A total of 105 subjects were categorized into groups as follows: ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (n=36), NSTEMI (n=22), infarct-like myocarditis (n=19), cardiomyopathy-like myocarditis (n=18), and healthy control (n=10). All subjects underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and serum concentrations of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and procollagen type I carboxy terminal propeptide (PICP) were measured.

Neurons in the central nervous system release extracellular vesicles (EVs) and exosomes in response to synaptic activity to regulate physiological processes at target neurons. The intercellular transfer of proteins, mRNAs, lipids or metabolites through EVs potentially modulates the structure and function of neurons and circuits. Whereas the biogenesis of EVs, their release from donor cells, and their molecular composition have been studied extensively, the critical factors and mechanisms regulating EV interactions with target cells are incompletely understood.

Agreement to participate in case-control studies has become low. Healthy participant bias resulting from differential response proportions in cases and controls can distort results; however, the magnitude of bias is difficult to assess. We investigated the effect in a large population-based case-control study on breast cancer, with a participation rate of 43.

Material And Methods: To evaluate the potential clinical significance of CEA expression in urothelial bladder neoplasms, CEA was analysed by immunohistochemistry in more than 2500 urothelial bladder carcinomas in a tissue microarray format.
Background: This systematic review addresses how adolescent-rated parent-child communication (PCC) quality is related to adolescent mental health.
Methods: We performed a systematic literature search in Medline and APA PsycInfo, including peer-reviewed quantitative studies examining associations between adolescent-rated dyadic PCC quality and general as well as specific measures of adolescent mental health. Qualitative and case studies were excluded, as were studies reporting only parent-rated communication quality or instruments assessing other constructs than dyadic PCC.
Objective: Nasal septum perforation (NSP) is a common condition affecting ~1.2% of the general population and is still considered challenging to treat. Therapeutic strategies range from conservative local treatments and septal button closures to over 40 different surgical approaches.

Methods And Results: This was a retrospective analysis of patients with COVID-19 and known vaccination status treated with mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke at 20 tertiary care centers between January 2020 and January 2023.
Background: Early negative life events (NLE) have long-lasting influences on neurodevelopment and psychopathology. Reduced orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) thickness was frequently associated with NLE and depressive symptoms. OFC thinning might mediate the effect of NLE on depressive symptoms, although few longitudinal studies exist.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) increases risk of fractures due to bone microstructural and material deficits, though the mechanisms remain unclear. Preclinical models mimicking diabetic bone disease are required to further understand its pathogenesis. The TALLYHO/JngJ (TH) mouse is a polygenic model recapitulating adolescent-onset T2DM in humans.

He was initially diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV) which progressed to myelofibrosis after 6 years. The MYSEC (Myelofibrosis Secondary to PV and ET-Prognostic Model) and MTSS (myelofibrosis transplant scoring system) scores were 13.

Here, we describe the design of ENABLE, a randomized controlled two-armed coverage with evidence development (CED) study in Germany. Approximately 1126 patients with mild to moderate dementia of unclear etiology will be randomly assigned to either an amyloid PET or a no amyloid PET group.

KID-PROTEKT is a child-centred psychosocial healthcare intervention which aims at improving the identification of psychosocial needs and navigation in the outpatient gynaecologic and paediatric setting. In this cluster randomized-controlled trail we examined the effect of KID-PROTEKT on the referrals (to support services) in comparison to the regular gynaecologic and paediatric outpatient healthcare . A variant based on the qualification of the healthcare providers (qualified treatment, QT) and a variant with social worker (supported treatment, ST) were compared to the regular healthcare (treatment as usual, TAU).

Aims: No data is available about the significance of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) derived vascular distensibility (VD) and vessel wall ratio (VWR) for risk stratification in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of T2DM on VD and VWR using CMR in both central and peripheral territories.
Methods: Thirty-one T2DM-patients and nine controls underwent CMR.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) can mimic almost all other liver disorders. A phenotype increasingly ascribed to drugs is autoimmune-like hepatitis (ALH). This article summarises the major topics discussed at a joint International Conference held between the Drug-Induced Liver Injury consortium and the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group.
