Objective: The primary aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of a semi-automatic algorithm in assessing the feasibility and complexity of endoscopic stapes surgery preoperatively.
Methods: A semi-automatic algorithm was developed to simulate endoscopic stapes surgery in 3D. To test the accuracy of the algorithm, five fresh-frozen cadaveric heads (ten ears) were used.
Introduction: Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is a peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) with a poor prognosis. Cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) with or without etoposide consolidated by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) are recommended for fit PTCL patients. The role of etoposide and ASCT in EATL is unclear.

Background: Chronic total coronary occlusions (CTO) substantially increase the risk for sudden cardiac death. Among patients with chronic ischemic heart disease at risk for sudden cardiac death, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is the favored therapy for primary prevention of sudden cardiac death. This study sought to investigate the impact of CTOs on the risk for appropriate ICD shocks and mortality within a nationwide prospective cohort.

Background: Neonates with congenital heart disease are at risk for impaired brain development in utero, predisposing children to postnatal brain injury and adverse long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. Given the vital role of the placenta in fetal growth, we assessed the incidence of placental pathology in fetal congenital heart disease and explored its association with total and regional brain volumes, gyrification, and brain injury after birth.
Methods And Results: Placentas from 96 term singleton pregnancies with severe fetal congenital heart disease were prospectively analyzed for macroscopic and microscopic pathology.

Background: Low-grade systemic inflammation is a relevant pathogenic mechanism underlying the development of hypertension. In this study, we hypothesized that plasma calprotectin levels, as a biomarker of neutrophil-mediated inflammation, is associated with developing new-onset hypertension in the general population.
Methods And Results: Plasma calprotectin levels were determined in 3524 participants who participated in the PREVEND (Prevention of Renal and Vascular End-Stage Disease) study, a prospective population-based cohort study.
Background High-density lipoprotein (HDL) particle concentration likely outperforms HDL cholesterol in predicting atherosclerotic cardiovascular events. Whether size-based HDL subspecies explain the atheroprotective associations of HDL particle concentration remains unknown. Our objective was to assess whether levels of specific size-based HDL subspecies associate with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in a multiethnic pooled cohort and improve risk prediction beyond traditional atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Objective: What are the electrogustometer's (EGM) validity, reliability, and diagnostic accuracy in assessing taste sensation in adults compared to other taste tests?
Data Sources: PubMed Medline, Elseviers's Embase, and the six databases of Cochrane Library.
Methods: We conducted a systematic search on December 20, 2022, consisting of synonyms for EGM. We considered randomized controlled trials and observational studies with original data for inclusion if they included adults who underwent electrogustometry.

Background ACURATE is a transcatheter aortic valve implantation system consisting of a self-expanding bioprosthetic valve with supra-annular leaflet position and featuring innovations to facilitate placement accuracy and reduce paravalvular regurgitation. Methods and Results The goal of the Early neo2 (Early neo2 Registry of the ACURATE neo2 TAVI Prosthesis) was to gather real-life data on safety and efficacy in a European transcatheter aortic valve implantation population treated with ACURATE . Data were collected from 554 consecutive patients treated with ACURATE at 12 European sites (mean age, 82 years; 66% women; mean European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation II, 4.

Background To evaluate the role of ST-segment resolution (STR) alone and in combination with Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) flow in reperfusion evaluation after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) for ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction by investigating the long-term prognostic impact. Methods and Results From January 2013 through September 2014, we studied 5966 patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction enrolled in the CAMI (China Acute Myocardial Infarction) registry with available data of STR evaluated at 120 minutes after PPCI. Successful STR included STR ≥50% and complete STR (ST-segment back to the equipotential line).

Background Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors reduce systolic blood pressure (SBP), but whether they affect SBP variability is unknown. There also remains uncertainty regarding the prognostic value of SBP variability for different clinical outcomes. Methods and Results Using individual participant data from the CANVAS (Canagliflozin Cardiovascular Assessment Study) Program and CREDENCE (Canagliflozin and Renal Events in Diabetes with Established Nephropathy Clinical Evaluation) trial, we assessed the effect of canagliflozin on SBP variability in people with type 2 diabetes across 4 study visits over 1.

Background The aim of this study is to describe muscle strength in pediatric patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot compared with healthy peers and to analyze the correlation between muscle strength and peak oxygen uptake, exercise capacity (mL/min). Methods and Results A prospective, cross-sectional study was carried out in the University Medical Center Groningen between March 2016 and December 2019, which included 8 -to-19-year-old patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot. Exclusion criteria comprised the following: Down syndrome, unstable pulmonary disease and severe scoliosis affecting pulmonary function, neuromuscular disease, and mental or physical limitations that prohibit the execution of the functional tests.

In patients with glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib), quality of life is severely hampered by neutropenia and neutropenia-associated symptoms. SGLT2 inhibitors are a new treatment option and have shown improved medical outcomes in more than 120 patients so far. The aim of this international questionnaire study was to assess patient-reported outcomes of this new treatment in GSD Ib patients.

Background Insight into outcome variation between hospitals could help to improve quality of care. We aimed to assess the validity of early outcomes as quality indicators for acute ischemic stroke care for patients treated with endovascular therapy (EVT). Methods and Results We used data from the MR CLEAN (Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Netherlands) Registry, a large multicenter prospective cohort study including 3279 patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing EVT.

In the Netherlands, newborns are referred by the newborn screening (NBS) Program when a low free carnitine (C0) concentration (<5 μmol/l) is detected in their NBS dried blood spot. This leads to ~85% false positive referrals who all need an invasive, expensive and lengthy evaluation. We investigated whether a ratio of urine C0 / plasma C0 (Ratio) can improve the follow-up protocol for primary carnitine deficiency (PCD).

Background: Individuals with von Willebrand disease (VWD) require desmopressin testing because of interindividual response differences. However, testing is burdensome, while not all patients may need extensive testing.
Objectives: To provide von Willebrand factor (VWF) cutoffs that predict desmopressin nonresponse and thereby identify individuals who do not need extensive testing in a retrospective cohort.

Background: Clonal mast cell disease (CMD) is an underlying aggravating condition in wasp venom allergy (WVA) which requires a different treatment strategy. CMD is increasingly recognized in patients with normal basal serum tryptase (bsT). However, methods to identify at risk patients have not yet been assessed in large cohorts of WVA patients with normal bsT.

Recent studies suggest an association between mitral annulus disjunction (MAD), mitral valve prolapse (MVP), and ventricular arrhythmias. The prevalence of MAD and MVP in patients with IVF in this regard is not well established.
