To compare health service use (HSU) between migrants and non-migrants in Germany. Using data from the population-based German National Cohort (NAKO), we compared the HSU of general practitioners, medical specialists, and psychologists/psychiatrists between six migrant groups of different origins with the utilization of non-migrants. A latent profile analysis (LPA) with a subsequent multinomial regression analysis was conducted to characterize the HSU of different groups.

Phenotypes and treatment outcomes in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension patients with comorbidities.

Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is often diagnosed in elderly patients with many comorbidities. Whereas a clear treatment strategy and risk assessment is recommended for patients with rare classical IPAH, monotherapy with phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors or endothelin receptor antagonists followed by regular follow-up and individualised therapy should be used for patients with many cardiopulmonary comorbidities. Here, we focus on these patients with IPAH and comorbidities, present a review of the literature with a focus on recently published work and summarise factors that may help to provide guidance for individualised treatment approaches in such patients.

Associations of Migration, Socioeconomic Position and Social Relations With Depressive Symptoms - Analyses of the German National Cohort Baseline Data.

We analyze whether the prevalence of depressive symptoms differs among various migrant and non-migrant populations in Germany and to what extent these differences can be attributed to socioeconomic position (SEP) and social relations. The German National Cohort health study (NAKO) is a prospective multicenter cohort study (N = 204,878). Migration background (assessed based on citizenship and country of birth of both participant and parents) was used as independent variable, age, sex, Social Network Index, the availability of emotional support, SEP (relative income position and educational status) and employment status were introduced as covariates and depressive symptoms (PHQ-9) as dependent variable in logistic regression models.

Islet Autoantibody Standardization Program: interlaboratory comparison of insulin autoantibody assay performance in 2018 and 2020 workshops.

Aims/hypothesis: The Islet Autoantibody Standardization Program (IASP) aims to improve the performance of immunoassays measuring autoantibodies in type 1 diabetes and the concordance of results across laboratories. IASP organises international workshops distributing anonymised serum samples to participating laboratories and centralises the collection and analysis of results. In this report, we describe the results of assays measuring IAA submitted to the IASP 2018 and 2020 workshops.

Background: Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) is a life-threatening complication of sepsis. In surgical ICUs, DIC is frequently caused by abdominal sepsis, and the disarranged coagulation and complications often lead to death. The severity of sepsis is associated with a higher DIC score according to the parameters proposed by the International Society of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (ISTH) in 2001: platelet count, bleeding time (Quick), D-dimer, and fibrinogen.

Traditional risk factors and nodal yield-still relevant with high-quality risk-adapted adjuvant treatment for locally advanced head and neck cancer?

Objective: Patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer (LAHNC) often undergo multimodal therapy including radical resection of the primary tumor and neck dissection (ND) followed by risk-adapted adjuvant radio(chemo)therapy (R(C)T). Quality parameters influencing local control and survival of these patients have been postulated: resection status (R status), extranodal extension (ENE), interval to adjuvant treatment ≤6 weeks, R(C)T given when indicated, and nodal yield (NY) ≥18 lymph nodes per neck. For other solid tumors the trend is towards less extensive lymph node surgery to avoid toxicity such as lymphedema, damage to peripheral nerves, dysesthesia, or paresthesia.

The exact pathogenesis is still unclear, but several explanatory concepts were postulated and several case reports in children were published. We performed a systematic Medline search between April 1976 and April 2022.

Single-Cell Protein and Transcriptional Characterization of Epiretinal Membranes From Patients With Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy.

Purpose: Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) remains an unresolved clinical challenge and can lead to frequent revision surgery and blindness vision loss. The aim of this study was to characterize the microenvironment of epiretinal PVR tissue, in order to shed more light on the complex pathophysiology and to unravel new treatment options.

Methods: A total of 44 tissue samples were analyzed in this study, including 19 epiretinal PVRs, 13 epiretinal membranes (ERMs) from patients with macular pucker, as well as 12 internal limiting membranes (ILMs).

The receptor tyrosine kinase Axl is described to promote migration, metastasis and resistance against molecular targeting, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy in various tumor entities, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Since clinical data on Axl and its ligand Gas6 in HNSCC are sparse, we assessed the association of Axl and Gas6 expression with patient survival in a single center retrospective cohort in a tissue microarray format. Expression was evaluated manually using an established algorithm and correlated with clinicopathological parameters and patient survival.
