Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells that reside in almost all postnatal tissues where, due to the potent regenerative, pro-angiogenic and immunomodulatory properties, regulate tissue homeostasis. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) induces oxidative stress, inflammation and ischemia which recruit MSCs from their niches in inflamed and injured tissues. Through the activity of MSC-sourced anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic factors, MSCs reduce hypoxia, suppress inflammation, prevent fibrosis and enhance regeneration of damaged cells in OSA-injured tissues.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is today the second most common cancer in the world, with almost 400,000 deaths annually. Multiple factors are involved in the etiology of PCa, such as older age, genetic mutations, ethnicity, diet, or inflammation. Modern treatment of PCa involves radical surgical treatment or radiation therapy in the stages when the tumor is limited to the prostate.

Adipose tissue is a dynamic endocrine organ, a highly active metabolic tissue, and an important source of cytokines. Inflammatory factors play an important role in visceral obesity associated with insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome (MS), hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2), endothelial dysfunction (ED) and atherosclerosis. To examine corelation of siMS score, as a quantification method for metabolic syndrome (MS), with insulin resistance, glucoregulation parameters, as with other co-founding factors of MS, inflammation and thrombosis factors, microalbuminuria, uric acid, fatty liver index (FLI) and homocysteine.

Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) comprise a group of autoantibodies that reflect prothrombotic risk in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) but may also be present in a small proportion of healthy individuals. They are often transiently elevated in infections, including SARS-CoV-2, and may also be associated with vaccine-induced autoimmunity. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the dynamics of aPL in COVID-19 patients and in individuals (healthcare professionals-HCPs) after receiving BNT162b2 vaccine and to compare aPL levels and positivity with those found in APS patients.

Introduction: There are still no definite curative or preventive strategies for COVID-19 disease. It is crucial to fully comprehend the pathogenesis of COVID-19 infection so that we can develop expedient pharmacological protocols. While the impact of cytokine storm on COVID-19 severity has been one of the most tested hypotheses, the role of bradykinin and various other oxidative stress markers has been relatively under-researched.

Background And Aims: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is closely linked to obesity and related adverse metabolic changes, including dyslipidemia. However, it is not clear whether OSA is an independent contributing factor to dyslipidemia, or the observed association is a reflection of a concomitant presence of obesity. Additionally, dyslipidemia is usually evaluated through measurement of parameters of routine lipid status, while more precise evaluation of lipid homeostasis is rarely performed in OSA.

Background: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a multisystemic autoimmune disorder characterized by thrombotic events and/or gestational morbidity in patients with antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). In a previous single center study, APS-related clinical manifestations that were not included in the classification criteria (livedo reticularis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia) were associated with the presence of circulating immune-complexes (CIC) formed by beta-2-glycoprotein-I (B2GP1) and anti-B2GP1 antibodies (B2-CIC). We have performed a multicenter study on APS features associated with the presence of B2-CIC.

Pulmonary thromboembolism is a very common cardiovascular disease, with a high mortality rate. Despite the clear guidelines, this disease still represents a great challenge both in diagnosis and treatment. The heterogeneous clinical picture, often without pathognomonic signs and symptoms, represents a huge differential diagnostic problem even for experienced doctors.

Point-of-Care ultrasound (POCUS) is based on target ultrasound that is performed wherever a patient is being treated, and by a non-radiologist directly involved in the patient's care. It is used either for quick diagnosis or procedural guidance. Abdominal pain is one of the most common complaints in emergency departments, and POCUS can help in the differentiation of patients who need additional diagnostic tests or hospital treatment, which eventually reduces the overall costs of health care.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive malignancy for which cytotoxic chemotherapy remains the backbone of treatment. Trilaciclib is an intravenous cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor that induces transient cell cycle arrest of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and immune cells during chemotherapy exposure, protecting them from chemotherapy-induced damage and enhancing immune activity. Administration of trilaciclib prior to gemcitabine plus carboplatin (GCb) significantly improved overall survival (OS) compared with GCb alone in an open-label phase II trial in patients with metastatic TNBC, potentially through protection and direct activation of immune function.
