Breastfeeding self-efficacy (BSE), defined as a mother's confidence in her ability to breastfeed, has been confirmed to predict the uptake of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF). Early experiences during the birth hospital stay, especially in-hospital formula feeding (IHFF), can impact both EBF and maternal breastfeeding confidence. Therefore, our objective was to examine the association between IHFF and EBF outcomes and investigate whether this association is influenced by BSE.

This study investigated the accuracy of postpartum recall of falls that were reported during pregnancy, including assessment of fall efficacy as a possible reason for recall inaccuracy. Twenty participants reported fall experiences weekly during pregnancy, but one participant was excluded as an outlier.

C-to-U RNA editing in angiosperm chloroplasts requires a large suite of proteins bound together in the editosome. The editosome is comprised of PPR proteins, RIP/MORFs, OZ proteins, and ORRM proteins that physically interact in high molecular weight complexes. The specific functions of non-PPR editing factors in the editosome are unclear, however, specific subsets of editing sites are affected by absence of non-PPR editing factors.

Introduction: Drug use and trading are typically social activities; however, supply through cryptomarkets can occur without any in-person social contact. People who use drugs alone may be at higher risk of experiencing harms, for example, due to lack of others who may call for emergency assistance. Alternatively, cryptomarkets may be a source of harm reduction information and drugs with better-known content and dose, potentially reducing the risk of adverse events.

Yet, work on long-lived primate populations suggests the evolution of mechanisms that contribute to resiliency and long lives despite early life insults. Here, we tested associations between individual and cumulative early life adversity and lifespan on rhesus macaques at the Cayo Santiago Biological Field Station using 50 years of demographic data.

The reactivity of chromium(III) species with the major oxidizing and reducing radiolysis products of water was investigated in aqueous solutions at temperatures up to 150 °C. The reaction between the hydrated electron (e ) and Cr(III) species showed a positive temperature dependence over this temperature range. The reaction was also studied in pH 2.

Muscle mass is balanced between hypertrophy and atrophy by cellular processes, including activation of the protein kinase B-mechanistic target of rapamycin (Akt-mTOR) signaling cascade. Stressors apart from exercise and nutrition, such as heat stress, can stimulate the heat shock protein A (HSPA) and C (HSPC) families alongside hypertrophic signaling factors and muscle growth. The effects of heat stress on HSP expression and Akt-mTOR activation in human skeletal muscle and their magnitude of activation compared with known hypertrophic stimuli are unclear.

Neutral low-molecular-weight organics such as methyl nitrate that can readily pass through reverse osmosis (RO) membranes employed in potable water reuse facilities attract interest owing to public health considerations. In this study, a novel determination method based on high-performance liquid chromatography, online photochemical conversion to peroxynitrite, and luminol chemiluminescence detection was developed for methyl nitrate measurement in treated water. The maximum photochemical conversion efficiency of methyl nitrate to peroxynitrite was found to be 6.

Introduction: The purpose of the study was to compare school-age children who stutter (CWS) and age-matched children who do not stutter (CWNS) in syntactic abilities and syntactic performance.
Methods: Computerized Language Sample Analysis (LSA) was conducted on the conversation samples obtained from 46 school-age CWS and CWNS between 7 and 16 years (CWS, n = 23). Syntactic abilities were assessed using the Index of Productive Syntax (the IPsyn) and Developmental Sentence Scores (DSS) and mixed effects logistic regression analyses with participants as random effects were conducted to determine if the scores were predictive of group membership.

Contrary to expectations regarding efficient predator education mediated by lack of ambiguity and enhanced prey recognition, aposematic signals often show considerable intraspecific variability. For example, some striped skunks (Mephitis mephitis) are almost entirely white, others have black-and-white stripes of equivalent thicknesses, yet others are mostly black. We tested the ecological correlates of this variation in patterning using 749 museum skins collected across North America.

Background: Pediatric anxiety and depression are prevalent, impairing, and highly comorbid. Available evidence-based treatments have an average response rate of 60%. One path to increasing response may be to identify likely non-responders midway through treatment to adjust course prior to completing an episode of care.

Objectives: The objective of this scoping review is to summarize the available information on types of telehealth services provided to older adults when physical therapy is involved in their delivery of care. Methods of clinical assessment and outcomes will also be identified.
Introduction: Information on telerehabilitation interventions for older adults is lacking, yet older individuals can greatly benefit from person-centered care within a home setting.

Microscopes are essential for the biomechanical and hydrodynamical investigation of small aquatic organisms. We report a do-it-yourself microscope (GLUBscope) that enables the visualization of organisms from two orthogonal imaging planes - top and side views. Compared to conventional imaging systems, this approach provides a comprehensive visualization strategy of organisms, which could have complex shapes and morphologies.

Optimizing material compositions often enhances thermoelectric performances. However, the large selection of possible base elements and dopants results in a vast composition design space that is too large to systematically search using solely domain knowledge. To address this challenge, a hybrid data-driven strategy that integrates Bayesian optimization (BO) and Gaussian process regression (GPR) is proposed to optimize the composition of five elements (Ag, Se, S, Cu, and Te) in AgSe-based thermoelectric materials.

There is a broad need to support the early educational trajectories of underrepresented students pursuing behavioral and biomedical research, particularly at large, comprehensive institutions. The Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) initiative at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) created an Associates Program designed to provide undergraduates with early exposure to research and foster a sense of belonging and interest in a research career during their sophomore year. Our Associates Program had high retention rates (> 90%) and served as a pathway to other research opportunities on campus, with over half of the students entering an intensive, upper-division research training program at CSULB upon completion.
