Female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgical treatment has changed since its beginning. Selecting materials that promote constructive tissue remodelling helps to maintain continence after surgery and minimizes complications. To analyze the long-term urinary continence results in women who underwent SUI surgical correction using the transobturator mid-urethral sling KIM system (Knotless Incontinence Mesh) and analyze the complications associated with this SUI treatment.

Objectives: to demonstrate the benefits of physiotherapy (PT) with pelvic floor biofeedback (BFB) in improving health-related quality of life when used as a complementary therapy after surgical treatment of cystocele, in cases in which perineal pain or discomfort persists.

Materials And Methods: prospective observational study in 226 women who received complementary therapy after surgical treatment of cystocele due to persistent perineal discomfort or pain. Groups: GA ( = 78): women treated with 25 mg of oral pregabalin every 12 h plus BFB, consisting of 20 once-weekly therapy sessions, each 20 min long, with perineal pregelled surface electrodes connected to a screen which provides visual feedback; GB ( = 148): women treated with oral pregabalin 25 mg every 12 h without BFB.

With the realization of highly efficient perovskite solar cells, the long-term stability of these devices is the key challenge hindering their commercialization. In this work, we study the temperature-dependent stability of perovskite solar cells and develop a model capable of predicting the lifetime and energy yield of perovskite solar cells outdoors. This model results from the measurement of the kinetics governing the degradation of perovskite solar cells at elevated temperatures.

Cajal-Retzius neurons (CRN) are the main source of Reelin in the marginal zone of the developing neocortex and hippocampus (HC). They also express the transcription factor p73 and are complemented by later-appearing GABAergic Reelin interneurons. The human dorsal HC forms at gestational week 10 (GW10), when it develops a rudimentary Ammonic plate and incipient dentate migration, although the dorsal hippocampal fissure (HF) remains shallow and contains few CRN.

Solar energy harvesting is largely limited by the spectral sensitivity of the employed energy conversion system, where usually large parts of the solar spectrum do not contribute to the harvesting scheme, and where, of the contributing fraction, the full potential of each photon is not efficiently used in the generation of electrical or chemical energy. Extrinsic sensitization through photoluminescent spectral conversion has been proposed as a route to at least partially overcome this problem. Here, we discuss this approach in the emerging context of photochemical energy harvesting and storage through natural or artificial photosynthesis.

Mutations in the alanine-glyoxylate amino transferase gene (AGXT) are responsible for primary hyperoxaluria type I, a rare disease characterized by excessive hepatic oxalate production that leads to renal failure. We generated a null mutant mouse by targeted mutagenesis of the homologous gene, Agxt, in embryonic stem cells. Mutant mice developed normally, and they exhibited hyperoxaluria and crystalluria.

To examine the role of the p53 homolog p73 in brain development, we studied p73-/-, p73+/-, E2F1-/-, and reeler mutant mice. p73 in developing brain is expressed in Cajal-Retzius (CR) cells, the cortical hem, and the choroid plexus. p73-expressing CR cells are lost in p73-/- embryos, although Reelin is faintly expressed in the marginal zone.

Disabled-1 (Dab1) forms part of the Reelin-Dab1 signalling pathway that controls neuronal positioning during brain development; Dab1 deficiency gives rise to a reeler-like inversion of cortical layers. To establish a timetable of Dab1 expression in developing human brain, Dab1 mRNA and protein expression were studied in prenatal human cortex. The earliest Dab1 signal was detected at 7 gestational weeks (GW), the stage of transition from preplate to cortical plate, suggesting a role of the Reelin-Dab1 signalling pathway in preplate partition.

Reelin, an extracellular matrix protein, plays a crucial role in cortical development. By using Reelin-immunohistochemistry in different vertebrates (fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals : insectivores, odontocetes, rodents, carnivores and man) we show here that Reelin is also expressed by a variety of neurons in the adult pallium. In the everted telencephalon of the zebrafish, Reelin-positive neurons are widely distributed over the dorsal pallium.

Early corticogenesis was studied in human embryos and early fetuses from Carnegie stages 16 to 22 (5-8 gestational weeks) by using immunohistochemistry for Reelin (Reln), calretinin (CR), and glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD). A first population of Reln-positive cells appears in the neocortical anlage at stage 16 and increases in number at stages 17-18. At stages 19-20, a monolayer of horizontal CR- and GAD-positive, Reln-negative neurons forms in the preplate, whereas Reln-positive cells shift into a subpial position.

Levels of estradiol and progesterone from blood together with oestrogen (ER) and progesterone receptors (PgR) from breast tissue were studied from a total of 2500 data bank cases of breast neoplastic disease. We report here, 340 premenopausal women with recorded menstrual cycle data which enabled the study of the effect of peripheral hormone variation on ER and PgR with respect to cycle phase. The findings were also correlated with 30 immunohistochemical specimens.
