Introduction: Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a crucial marker of glucose control that is widely utilized in the management of diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a diabetes management program (DMP) offered by a health insurance company, together with the effects of other factors associated with patient and physician characteristics, on the frequency of HbA1c testing in outpatient diabetes clinics in Slovakia.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted to compare the frequency of HbA1c measurements in patients under the care of physicians participating in the DMP with those who did not, spanning the years 2015 to 2019.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of switching from basal bolus insulin treatment (BBIT) to a fixed combination of insulin degludec and liraglutide (IDegLira) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who had preserved insulin secretion but inadequate glucose control. The study also aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing this therapeutic approach in common clinical practice settings.

Methods: This was a non-randomized, open-label, multicenter, prospective, single-arm study involving 234 patients with T2DM who were receiving BBIT.

Objective: Drotrecogin alpha (activated) (DAA), or recombinant human activated protein C, is a new treatment in sepsis-induced multiple organ failure, leading to significant reduction in the mortality rate, thanks to its anticoagulant properties. It has been suggested that DAA has anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects in sepsis animal models. This study investigates the potential actions of DAA on circulating mononuclear cells apoptosis in human septic shock.

In the Syrian hamster a serotonergic (5-HTergic) stimulation during daytime acts on the circadian timing system by inducing behavioral phase advances and by decreasing Per1 and Per2 (Period) mRNA levels in the suprachiasmatic nuclei, containing the main circadian clock in mammals. The present study was conducted in Syrian hamsters, housed in constant darkness, to investigate the interactions between light or melatonin with serotonergic stimulation in terms of phase resetting and clock gene expression. Both light exposure and systemic administration of melatonin prior to the injection of a 5-HT(1A/7) receptor agonist, 8-OH-DPAT, in the middle of the day blocked behavioral phase advances.

Results of an inter-laboratory round-robin study of the application of time-resolved emission spectroscopy (TRES) to the speciation of uranium(VI) in aqueous media are presented. The round-robin study involved 13 independent laboratories, using various instrumentation and data analysis methods. Samples were prepared based on appropriate speciation diagrams and, in general, were found to be chemically stable for at least six months.

A conformational analysis has been performed on several peptide fragments (CCK4 to CCK7) of the cholecystokinin neuromodulator. The Monte-Carlo Metropolis method was used to explore the conformational space of all these flexible units and different electric charge distributions were introduced in order to mimic pH effects. Results agree reasonably well with experimental data from NMR and fluorescence experiments.
