The study of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) has expanded because of the growing need to search for new bioactive compounds that could be used as therapeutic alternatives. These small molecules serve as signals to establish interactions with other nearby organisms in the environment. In this work, we evaluated the antifungal effect of VOCs produced by different spp.

Primary central nervous system tumors rank 8 among other cancers in patients over 40 years of age. Glioblastoma is the most common primary central nervous system malignancy, accounting for 48 percent of the cases. The present study evaluates the effect of bevacizumab on the disease course in patients who received bevacizumab therapy due to primary central nervous system tumors in our clinic.

Background: The Oncotype Dx recurrence score (ODx-RS) guides the adjuvant chemotherapy decision-making process for patients with early-stage hormone receptor-positive, HER-2 receptor-negative breast cancer. This study aimed to evaluate survival and its correlation with ODx-RS in pT1-2, N0-N1mic patients treated with adjuvant therapy based on tumor board decisions.
Patients And Methods: Estrogen-positive HER-2 negative early-stage breast cancer patients (pT1-2 N0, N1mic) with known ODx-RS, operated on between 2010 and 2014, were included in this study.

Identifying cardiovascular-related measures that track from early childhood into later ages may help inform early prevention targets for cardiovascular disease. In this study, the tracking of triglycerides (TG), high-density cholesterol (HDL-c), atherogenic coefficient (AC), waist circumference to height ratio (WC/Height), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was examined in the INMA-Asturias cohort between 4 and 8 years of age. The analysis was conducted in 307 children who participated in the INMA-Asturias cohort (Spain) at 4 and at 8 years of age.

The purpose of the study was to assess the prognosis of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients who received trastuzumab beyond progression and investigate the predictors of complete response. HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients who received long-term trastuzumab were included in the study. Predictors of complete response were analyzed with binary regression analysis.

Obesity is associated with adipose tissue dysfunction through the differentiation and expansion of pre-adipocytes to adipocytes (hyperplasia) and/or increases in size of pre-existing adipocytes (hypertrophy). A cascade of transcriptional events coordinates the differentiation of pre-adipocytes into fully differentiated adipocytes; the process of adipogenesis. Although nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) has been associated with obesity, how NNMT is regulated during adipogenesis, and the underlying regulatory mechanisms, remain undefined.

Introduction: The incidence of cutaneous melanoma among the elderly has increased significantly. Unfavorable survival rates are associated with insufficient patient managements and poor prognostic features in the elderly. We aimed to compare elderly (≥75 years) and younger (<75 years) patients with cutaneous melanoma to determine the differences and the prognostic significance of age.

Objective: Brain tumors in childhood carry a high risk for endocrine disorders due to the direct effects of the tumor and/or surgery and radiotherapy. Somatotropes are vulnerable to pressure and radiotherapy; therefore, growth hormone deficiency is one of the most frequent abnormalities. This study aimed to evaluate endocrine disorders and recombinant growth hormone treatment outcomes in brain tumor survivors.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate whether there are subgroups of children with different clusters of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors at 4 and 8 years of age, and their patterns of change between these two time points.
Methods: The analysis was conducted in 332 children who participated in the INMA-Asturias cohort (Spain) at 4 and at 8 years of age. The CVD risk factors were central obesity, dyslipidaemia, hyperglycaemia, and hypertension.

Objective: The median survival time for metastatic gastric cancer that has a poor prognosis is usually shorter than 1 year. The fluorouracil, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) regimen is observed to be effective in the neo-adjuvant treatment of gastric cancer. However, data on the FLOT regimen in metastatic gastric cancer are limited.

Background: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are cancer cells which separate from the primary tumor and enter systemic circulation. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between CTCs isolated and identified from the peripheral blood of patients with pancreatobiliary cancer, with the clinicopathological characteristics of the patients and their overall survival.
Methods: A total of 21 patients were included the study.

Background: Hepatocyte growth factor is a cytokine secreted by the stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment. There is little information about the clinical significance of serum hepatocyte growth factor level in patients diagnosed with pancreatobiliary cancer. The objective of the current study was to investigate the relationship between serum hepatocyte growth factor level with inflammation markers and the clinical features of patients with pancreatobiliary cancer.

Background And Aims: Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) accounts for 70% of liver-related deaths in Europe, with no effective approved therapies. Although mitochondrial dysfunction is one of the earliest manifestations of alcohol-induced injury, restoring mitochondrial activity remains a problematic strategy due to oxidative stress. Here, we identify methylation-controlled J protein (MCJ) as a mediator for ALD progression and hypothesize that targeting MCJ may help in recovering mitochondrial fitness without collateral oxidative damage.

The prognosis of patients with Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) relapse is poor; the 5-year overall survival (OS) is 13%. We evaluated the effectivity of high-dose therapy (HDT) with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in adult patients with ESFT relapse. Between January 2010 and January 2021, we retrospectively analyzed 20 patients with ESFT who received HDT upon relapse.

Background: Relapsed/refractory high-risk neuroblastoma has a dismal prognosis. Anti-GD2-mediated chemo-immunotherapy has a notable anti-tumor activity in patients with relapsed/refractory high-risk neuroblastoma. The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficacy and safety of the combination of immunotherapy with dinutuximab beta (DB) and chemotherapy in patients with relapsed/refractory high-risk neuroblastoma.
