Oxytocin: An Old Hormone, a Novel Psychotropic Drug and its Possible Use in Treating Psychiatric Disorders.

Background: Oxytocin is a nonapeptide synthesized in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus. Historically, this molecule has been involved as a key factor in the formation of infant attachment, maternal behavior and pair bonding and, more generally, in linking social signals with cognition, behaviors and reward. In the last decades, the whole oxytocin system has gained a growing interest as it was proposed to be implicated in etiopathogenesis of several neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Calcaneocuboid capsuloligamentous soft-tissue entrapment: a rare cause of acquired equinovarus deformity.

Acquired equinovarus deformity is rare, with most cases related to congenital disorders such as clubfoot. We describe a unique case of traumatic capsuloligamentous soft-tissue entrapment within the calcaneocuboid joint in a 13-year-old girl, causing an acquired equinovarus deformity. This required surgical exploration and joint fixation.

Analysis of postoperative complications following elective arthroscopic surgeries of the knee- a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Since their introduction, arthroscopic procedures have been increasingly utilized for the treatment of knee pathologies, especially Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Reduction of post-operative morbidity, shortened hospital stay and recovery period have all been identified as the benefits of arthroscopy. However, despite tremendous increase in the number of these procedures done, the postoperative complications associated have been infrequently analyzed.

Utility of Bulk T-Cell Receptor Repertoire Sequencing Analysis in Understanding Immune Responses to COVID-19.

Measuring immunity to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19), can rely on antibodies, reactive T cells and other factors, with T-cell-mediated responses appearing to have greater sensitivity and longevity. Because each T cell carries an essentially unique nucleic acid sequence for its T-cell receptor (TCR), we can interrogate sequence data derived from DNA or RNA to assess aspects of the immune response. This review deals with the utility of bulk, rather than single-cell, sequencing of TCR repertoires, considering the importance of study design, in terms of cohort selection, laboratory methods and analysis.

Oxytocin, the panacea for long-COVID? a review.

Objectives: In this hypothesis paper we explore the underlying mechanisms for long-COVID and how the oxytocinergic neurones could be infected by SARS-CoV-2 leading to a reduction in plasma oxytocin (OXT). Furthermore, we aim to review the relevance of OXT and hypothalamic function in recovery from long-COVID symptoms and pathology, through exploring the pro-health effects of the OXT neuropeptide.

Methods: We used data from patients referred for first hip and lumbar spine BMD estimation by the sole DXA scanner in the north-west of England between June 2004 and September 2016.

Oxygen Targets During Mechanical Ventilation in the ICU: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Unlabelled: Patients admitted to intensive care often require treatment with invasive mechanical ventilation and high concentrations of oxygen. Mechanical ventilation can cause acute lung injury that may be exacerbated by oxygen therapy. Uncertainty remains about which oxygen therapy targets result in the best clinical outcomes for these patients.

Multiple-Breath Washout Outcome Measures in Adults with Bronchiectasis.

Lung clearance index (LCI) has good intravisit repeatability with better sensitivity in detecting lung disease on computed tomography scan compared with forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV) in adults with bronchiectasis. Alternative multiple-breath washout parameters have not been systematically studied in bronchiectasis. To determine the validity, repeatability, sensitivity, specificity, and feasibility of standard LCI (LCI), shortened LCI (LCI), ventilation heterogeneity arising within proximal conducting airways (SVT), and ventilation heterogeneity arising within the acinar airways (SVT) in a cross-sectional observational cohort of adults with bronchiectasis.

Dynamic Hip Screw Plate Length in Stable Intertrochanteric Fracture Neck of Femur: A Systematic Review.

There has always been a debate between the use of four and two-hole plate for the fixation of stable intertrochanteric fractures. The choice is usually influenced by the general practice of the particular institution and the surgeon's preference. While the dynamic hip screw (DHS) is the implant of choice for stable intertrochanteric fractures of the femur, the length of the side plate to be chosen for optimal results has no clear consensus and previous studies regarding the same have been inconclusive.

Meta-analysis and systematic review of liver transplantation as an ultimate treatment option for secondary sclerosing cholangitis.

Introduction: Secondary sclerosing cholangitis (SSC) is a chronic cholestatic biliary disease, characterized by inflammation, obliterative fibrosis of the bile ducts, stricture formation, and progressive destruction of the biliary tree, which leads to biliary cirrhosis. In recent years, the development of secondary sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients (SSC-CIP) has increasingly been perceived as a separate disease entity.

Aim: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of secondary sclerosing cholangitis and ischaemic cholangiopathy in post organ transplant patients and intensive care unit (ICU).

Aims: The aim of this study was to inform the epidemiology and treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).

Methods: This was an anonymized comprehensive cohort study, with a nested consented cohort, following the the Idea, Development, Exploration, Assessment, Long-term study (IDEAL) framework. A total of 143 of 144 hospitals treating SCFE in Great Britain participated over an 18-month period.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiology and treatment of Perthes' disease of the hip.

Methods: This was an anonymized comprehensive cohort study of Perthes' disease, with a nested consented cohort. A total of 143 of 144 hospitals treating children's hip disease in the UK participated over an 18-month period.

Cluster analysis demonstrates co-existing sites of fragility fracture and associated comorbidities.

Unlabelled: We undertook cluster analysis in 11,003 patients who had sustained ≥ 1 fragility fracture, to find associations between fracture sites and comorbidities. We identified three distinct groups of fracture sites and four clusters of fractures and comorbidities. Knowledge of factors associated with fracture sites will aid prophylaxis in at-risk patients.

Retrospective Analysis of Factors Associated with Fracture in 714 Patients with Polymyalgia Rheumatica.

Introduction: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a disease of the elderly, associated with increased fracture risk due to glucocorticosteroid (GC) treatment with the additional possible influence of chronic inflammation. Risk factors for fracture in PMR have not been extensively studied. Hip structure analysis (HSA) is a way to measure bone morphology in the hip using dual X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

Joint awareness and return to pre-injury level of activities after ACL reconstruction in athletes vs non-athletes.

Purpose: The outcome of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) in the non-athlete population is under-reported. The study aimed to compare the functional outcomes of ACLR in the non-athlete and athlete population by patient reported outcome measures (PROMs)- International Knee Documentation Committee score (IKDC), Lysholm knee scoring scale, Forgotten joint score (FJS-12) and return to pre-injury activity level. The study also correlated the FJS-12 score with other commonly used PROM's (IKDC and Lysholm).

Introduction: and background: Surgical options for Dupuytren's disease (DD) are multiple, and Dupuytren's palmar fasciectomy (PF) is a common surgical procedure performed for contractures that cause functional and cosmetic disability. The recurrence rate for PF has been reported to be very variable, ranging from 12 to 73%, according to various studies. One of the reasons for the varied range is the inconsistency in the method followed to define recurrence.

Urinary retention secondary to bladder herniation in the inguinal canal - Case report and review of literature.

Bladder herniation in the inguinal canal is a rare occurrence, reported for the first time in 1951 as Scrotal Cystocele. Most cases are incidental intraoperative findings, with no particular manifestation. Few reports of symptomatic patients have been documented in literature.
