Computed tomography plays an ever-increasing role in the management of fractures and dislocations due to its capability in efficiently providing multiplanar reformats and 3-dimensional volume rendered images. It can reveal findings that are occult on plain radiography and therefore allow for more accurate decision making with regard to fracture classification and management. Clinical radiologists play a critical role in facilitating the processing of imaging to provide adequate image reformats in the desired planes, producing 3 dimensional images but most crucially identifying pertinent findings, which will contribute between the selection of nonoperative and operative management and potentially influence surgical technique.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on bone mineral density (BMD) and the risk of fragility fractures by analyzing data from patients scanned between 2004 and 2024, focusing on those referred before and after March 23, 2020.
  • - Post-COVID-19 patients showed higher non-hip fracture rates, increased weight, a decline in T-scores, and a greater likelihood of osteoporosis, although they had a reduced overall fracture risk compared to pre-COVID-19 patients.
  • - The findings suggest that while COVID-19 lockdowns may have harmed bone density, this did not correlate with an increased fracture risk, indicating the need for more prospective studies to explore the long-term effects

Deemed consent legislation for deceased organ donation was introduced in England in 2020, and is considered a vital part of the new UK NHS Blood and Transplant's 10-year strategy to increase consent for organ donation. Despite the legislation containing safeguards to protect the public, the introduction of deemed consent creates ethical, psychological and social un/certainties for healthcare professionals in their practice. In this paper, we offer insights into healthcare professionals' perspectives on deemed consent, drawn from interview data with 24 healthcare professionals in an NHS Trust in England, prior to the introduction of the legislation.

Objective: We aim to explore the concept of distance and journey to goal, and consideration of these 2 elements a priori when choosing LLT.

Methods: Modelling of expected % LDL-C reductions was carried out on a range of hypothetical patients' baseline LDL-C values prior to any LLT being commenced. Therapies were then added in a stepwise manner based on the pathway demonstrated in current national guidance and compared with goal achievement on a novel LLT optimization pathway implemented in Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.
