Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is the most common pathology for the tricuspid valve. Moderate to severe TR is associated with morbidity and adverse outcomes. The concept that TR resolves on its own if the underlying disease is successfully treated has proven to be false.

Antimicrobial nanocoatings may be a means of preventing nosocomial infections, which account for significant morbidity and mortality. The role of hospital sink traps in these infections is also increasingly appreciated. We describe the preparation, material characterization and antibacterial activity of a pipe cement-based silver nanocoating applied to unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, a material widely used in wastewater plumbing.

Objectives: Endocardial fibroelastosis (EFE) is a rare form of restrictive cardiomyopathy associated with high morbidity and mortality. The literature is sparse on information pertaining to risk stratification. Thus, we sought to highlight the risk factors of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and mortality in adults with EFE.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple's procedure) is a technically demanding operation performed for malignant and premalignant conditions of the pancreatic head, duodenum and bile duct. Awareness of the vascular anatomy, variations, and pathology of this area is essential to achieve safe surgery and good outcomes. The operation involves division of the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) which provides communication between the foregut and midgut blood supply.

Objective: This study aimed to understand the effect of time to remission of acromegaly on survival in people living with acromegaly.
Design, Patients And Measurement: This cross-sectional study used data from the UK Acromegaly Register. We considered remission of acromegaly growth hormone controlled at ≤2 μg/L following the diagnosis of acromegaly.

Aims: The question of how to handle clinically actionable outcomes from retrospective research studies is poorly explored. In neuropathology, this problem is exacerbated by ongoing refinement in tumour classification. We sought to establish a disclosure threshold for potential revised diagnoses as determined by the neuro-oncology speciality.

Importance: Termination of resuscitation (TOR) rules may help guide prehospital decisions to stop resuscitation, with potential effects on patient outcomes and health resource use. Rules with high sensitivity risk increasing inappropriate transport of nonsurvivors, while rules without excellent specificity risk missed survivors. Further examination of the performance of TOR rules in estimating survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is needed.

Stroke is one of the most common acute neurological disorders and a leading cause of disability worldwide. Evidence-based treatments over the last two decades have driven a revolution in the clinical management and design of stroke services. We need a highly skilled, multidisciplinary workforce that includes neurologists as core members to deliver modern stroke care.

Background: The HEART score, the T-MACS model and the GRACE score support early decision-making for acute chest pain, which could be complemented by CT coronary angiography (CTCA). However, their performance has not been directly compared.
Methods: In this secondary analysis of a multicentre randomised controlled trial of early CTCA in intermediate-risk patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome, C-statistics and performance metrics (using the predefined cut-offs) of clinical decision aids and CTCA, alone and then in combination, for the index hospital diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome and for 30-day coronary revascularisation were assessed in those who underwent CTCA and had complete data.

Aims: WHO Grade 3 (G3) meningiomas are rare tumours with limited data to guide management. This retrospective study documents UK management approaches across 14 centres over 11 years.
Materials And Methods: Patients with WHO G3 meningioma between 01/01/2008 and 31/12/2018 were identified.

First-line genetic investigations for rare neurological and developmental conditions have limitations in their ability to detect and characterize copy number variants (CNVs). Whole genome sequencing (WGS) offers potential advantages over other methods of CNV analysis. We aimed to demonstrate the utility of CNV detection using WGS through description of three clinical cases.

Introduction: Optimising emergency department (ED) patient experience is vital to ensure care quality. However, there are few validated instruments to measure the experiences of specific patient groups, including older adults. We previously developed a draft 82-item Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM-ED 65) for adults ≥65 attending the ED.

Introduction: Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) use in neonatal resuscitation is limited despite existing evidence and recommendations. This survey investigated the knowledge and experience of healthcare providers on the use of the LMA and explored barriers and solutions for implementation.
Methods: This online, cross-sectional survey on LMA in neonatal resuscitation involved healthcare professionals of the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS).
Introduction: The trial hypothesized that minimally invasive extra-corporeal circulation (MiECC) reduces the risk of serious adverse events (SAEs) after cardiac surgery operations requiring extra-corporeal circulation without circulatory arrest.
Methods: This is a multicentre, international randomized controlled trial across fourteen cardiac surgery centres including patients aged ≥18 and <85 years undergoing elective or urgent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery, or CABG + AVR surgery. Participants were randomized to MiECC or conventional extra-corporeal circulation (CECC), stratified by centre and operation.

Introduction: While the exact pathogenesis of peripartum cardiomyopathy, a potentially life-threatening condition, is still unknown, its incidence is rising globally. We sought to understand the differences in outcomes and complications based on age.
Methods: Records from the 2016-2020 National Inpatient Sample were used for our study.
