The Center for Integrated and Novel Approaches in Vascular-Metabolic Disease (CINEMA) program is an innovative, patient-centered system of care developed by the University Hospitals Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute in Cleveland, Ohio in the US for the management of high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes at high risk for cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome and its consequences. At its core, CINEMA is a multidisciplinary team of care experts, working together outside of traditional silos. The patient meets with the entire team up to 4 times each year to address all aspects of cardiovascular (CV) and T2D care.

Although more than 90% of pancreatic tumors represent primary tumors, specifically ductal adenocarcinomas, metastatic tumors are not infrequent at this site. Metastasis of salivary gland tumors to the pancreas is exceedingly rare, with only a few cases reported in the English-language medical literature. Here, we report a patient with metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma to the pancreas, 24 months following the initial diagnosis, and review the available literature on secondary tumors located in the pancreas with an emphasis on tumors of salivary gland origin.

The cyclin D1-Cyclin-Dependent Kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) complex is crucial for the development of melanoma. We previously demonstrated that targeting CDK4/6 using small molecule inhibitors (CDK4/6i) suppresses Braf melanoma growth in vitro and in vivo through induction of cellular senescence. However, clinical trials investigating CDK4/6i in melanoma have not yielded successful outcomes, underscoring the necessity to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of CDK4/6i.

Background: Using intraoperative hemostatic checklists may improve rates of surgical re-exploration and utilization of allogenic blood products in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. In this review, the authors explore the current evidence describing the impact of using intraoperative hemostatic checklists on reducing rates of surgical bleeding and perioperative blood product transfusion in this group of patients.
Methods: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, electronic information was obtained via sources that included Scopus, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-coated balloon (DCB) has been expanding progressively in recent years. Convincing evidence demonstrated the ability of some DCB to promote positive vessel remodeling, with potential clinical benefits at follow-up. When PCI with DCB results in suboptimal angiographic results (residual stenosis >30% or type C to F dissection), bailout stenting (BS) implantation is recommended to mitigate the risk of abrupt vessel occlusion or restenosis.

Objectives: To determine the relationship between all-cause hospital mortality and morbidity in patients treated with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and to assess whether this relationship is mediated via body mass index (BMI).
Design: Using the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) registry, venoarterial ECMO runs from 2015 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Patient demographics, ECMO indications, and complications for survivors and decedents were univariately compared.

To quantify the extent of the disruption and recovery of lung cancer detection during the first two years of the pandemic, focusing on disparities across demographic and community factors. This retrospective cohort study used the SEER database to identify lung cancer cases from 2001 to 2021. Expected incidence rates for 2020 and 2021 were projected based on pre-pandemic trends (2000-2019) using the NCI's Joinpoint Regression program.

Aims: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is one of the most strongly associated risk factors for stroke. Our study aims to analyze changes in mortality from 1999 to 2020 in patients with AF and stroke.
Methods: Using the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC-WONDER), we retrospectively analyzed annual age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMR) per million from 1999 to 2020 in stroke patients with AF.

Introduction: Patient and care partner engagement in research (PER) is important in generating knowledge to improve healthcare. Arts-based methods (ABM) use art in the research process to share aesthetic knowledge, which is knowledge that may be too complex to share only verbally. Together, PER and ABM are potentially synergistic, as both are participatory, problem-focused, dialogic, and collaborative; yet little is known of the utility of ABM for PER.

Superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis (SOVT) is a rare phenomenon caused by both septic and aseptic etiologies. Individuals suffering from SOVT commonly present with ophthalmoplegia, proptosis, chemosis, and impaired vision. The superior ophthalmic vein is a valveless vein that drains into the cavernous sinus; for this reason, SOVT can present with dire complications such as cavernous sinus thrombosis in addition to debilitating permanent ophthalmoplegia and permanent vision loss if left untreated.

Background: No data compare newer-generation transcatheter heart valves (THVs) in terms of next-day discharge (NDD) following transfemoral (TF) transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Aims: We aimed to evaluate the safety of NDD in unselected patients who received ACURATE (neo/neo2), Evolut (PRO/PRO+/FX) and the SAPIEN (3/Ultra) THVs.
Methods: This multicentre registry included patients who underwent TF-TAVI without a preprocedural permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) and were discharged the next day without a new PPI.

Background: Guidelines advocate pulmonary function testing (PFT) in preoperative evaluation before lung resection. Although forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) are recommended, they are often poor predictors of complications.
Objectives: Determine if PFT testing results other than FEV1 and DLCO are associated with post-operative complications.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has transitioned from a primarily diagnostic to a therapeutic procedure. EUS-guided drainage of intra-abdominal fluid collections is common practice with vast data in the management of symptomatic, mature pancreatic fluid collections. Evidence has demonstrated that EUS-guided drainage for these intra-abdominal fluid collections is effective with an acceptable safety profile.
