Background And Objective: The identification of mutation hot spots in the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) genes is one of the most important cancer genome-wide sequencing discoveries with relevant impact in the treatment of some orphan tumors. These genes were mostly found mutated in lower-grade gliomas (LGGs), acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and in cholangiocarcinoma. This aberrant genomic condition represents a therapeutic target of great interest in cancer research, especially in AML, given the limitations of currently approved therapies in this field.

Heart failure (HF) is a chronic and progressive disease that often progresses to an advanced stage where conventional therapy is insufficient to relieve patients' symptoms. Despite the availability of advanced therapies such as mechanical circulatory support or heart transplantation, the complexity of defining advanced HF, which requires multiple parameters and multimodality assessment, often leads to delays in referral to dedicated specialists with the result of a worsening prognosis. In this review, we aim to explore the role of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in advanced HF by showing how CMR is useful at every step in managing these patients: from diagnosis to prognostic stratification, hemodynamic evaluation, follow-up and advanced therapies such as heart transplantation.

Mesenchymal tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) include numerous entities, with different pathological features and biological behavior. Mesenchymal non-meningothelial tumors are rare and comprise neoplasms that are exclusive to the CNS or show peculiar features when occurring in the CNS compared with other sites. Within this group there are three new entities, classified on the basis of specific molecular alterations and included in the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of CNS Tumors: primary intracranial sarcoma; DICER1-mutant; CIC-rearranged sarcoma; intracranial mesenchymal tumor, FET::CREB fusion-positive.

Background: Cardiac computed tomography (CCT) was recently validated to measure extracellular volume (ECV) in the setting of cardiac amyloidosis, showing good agreement with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). However, no evidence is available with a whole-heart single source, single energy CT scanner in the clinical context of newly diagnosed left ventricular dysfunction. Therefore, the aim of this study was to test the diagnostic accuracy of ECV in patients with a recent diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy, having ECV as the reference technique.

Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) is one of the world's leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Likewise, the diagnosis and risk stratification of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) have always been based on the detection of the presence and extent of ischaemia by physical or pharmacological stress tests with or without the aid of imaging methods (e.g.

Background Scar burden with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac MRI (CMR) predicts arrhythmic events in patients with postinfarction in single-center studies. However, LGE analysis requires experienced human observers, is time consuming, and introduces variability. Purpose To test whether postinfarct scar with LGE CMR can be quantified fully automatically by machines and to compare the ability of LGE CMR scar analyzed by humans and machines to predict arrhythmic events.

For decades, cardiologists have largely underestimated the role of the right heart in heart failure due to left heart disease. Nowadays, the importance of evaluating right ventricular (RV) structure and function in left heart failure is well documented and this concept has been emphasized in the most recent heart failure guidelines. However, several relevant questions remain unanswered such as the following: (a) which imaging technique (standard or 3D echocardiography or strain imaging or cardiac magnetic resonance) and, more, which parameters should be used to grade the severity of RV dysfunction? (b) do less widespread and less applied diagnostic tools such as cardiopulmonary stress testing and bioelectrical impedance analysis play a role in this field? (c) are there specific biochemical aspects of RV failure? (d) why notion of pathophysiology of heart and lung interaction are so well appreciated at an academic level but are not applied in the clinical setting? The present review has been prepared by the Heart Failure (HF) working group of the Italian Society of Cardiology and its main objective is to improve our understanding on RV dysfunction in heart failure.

Membranous ventricular septal aneurysm (VSA) is an uncommon cardiac abnormality, potentially leading to several cardiac complications such as aortic valve prolapse, arrhythmias, and aneurysm rupture. A young competitive soccer player presented for a post-COVID sports cardiology assessment, denying any previous cardiological evaluations. On transthoracic echocardiography, a membranous VSA was incidentally found with no other cardiac abnormality nor hemodynamic impairment associated.

Aims: Right ventricular systolic dysfunction (RVSD) is an important determinant of outcomes in heart failure (HF) cohorts. While the quantitative assessment of RV function is challenging using 2D-echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the gold standard with its high spatial resolution and precise anatomical definition. We sought to investigate the prognostic value of CMR-derived RV systolic function in a large cohort of HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Objectives: Computed tomography (CT) provides excellent anatomy assessment of the aortic annulus (AoA) and is utilized for pre-procedural planning of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). We sought to investigate if geometrical characteristics of the AoA determined by CT may represent predictors of structural valve degeneration (SVD) in patients undergoing TAVI with balloon-expandable valves.
Methods: This is a retrospective study on 124 consecutive patients (mean age: 79 ± 7 years; female: 61%) undergoing balloon-expandable TAVI prospectively enrolled in a registry.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) represents the most common cardiovascular disease, with high morbidity and mortality. Historically patients with chest pain of suspected coronary origin have been assessed with functional tests, capable to detect haemodynamic consequences of coronary obstructions through depiction of electrocardiographic changes, myocardial perfusion defects or regional wall motion abnormalities under stress condition. Stress echocardiography (SE), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET) and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) represent the functional techniques currently available, and technical developments contributed to increased diagnostic performance of these techniques.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) represents one of the most important causes of death around the world. Multimodality imaging plays a fundamental role in both diagnosis and risk stratification of acute and chronic CAD. For example, the role of Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) has become increasingly important to rule out CAD according to the latest guidelines.

Health-care workers (HCW) are at high risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection and, if asymptomatic, for transmitting the virus to fragile cancer patients. We monitored all asymptomatic HCWs of a cancer institute (94% of all employees agreed to enter the study) with the rapid serological test, VivaDiag, identifying SARS-CoV-2 associated-IgM/IgG. The tests were performed at time 0 ( = 606) and after 14 days ( = 393).
