Background: The CONtrolled delivery For ImproveD outcomEs with cliNiCal Evidence registry was initiated to characterize the clinical safety and device performance from experienced transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) centers in Europe and Australia that use the Portico valve to treat patients with severe aortic stenosis. We herein report for the first time the valve performance at 30-day across all implanted valve sizes and the 1-year survival from this registry.

Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, single-arm observational clinical investigation of patients clinically indicated for implantation of a Portico valve in experienced TAVI centers.

Context: Symptomatic lymphocele (sLC) occurs at a frequency of 2-10% after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND). Construction of bilateral peritoneal interposition flaps (PIFs) subsequent to completion of RARP + PLND has been introduced to reduce the risk of lymphocele, and was initially evaluated on the basis of retrospective studies.

Objective: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the impact of PIF on the rate of sLC (primary endpoint) and of overall lymphocele (oLC) and Clavien-Dindo grade ≥3 complications (secondary endpoints) to provide the best available evidence.

Purpose: Hospital rating websites (HRW) offer decision support in hospital choice for patients. To investigate the impact of HRWs of uro-oncological patients undergoing elective surgery in Germany.

Methods: From 01/2020 to 04/2021, patients admitted for radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, or renal tumor surgery received a questionnaire on decision-making in hospital choice and the use of HRWs at 10 German urologic clinics.

OBJECT The ActiGait drop foot stimulator is a promising technique for restoration of lost ankle function by an implantable hybrid stimulation system. It allows ankle dorsiflexion by active peroneal nerve stimulation during the swing phase of gait. In this paper the authors report the outcome of the first prospective study on a large number of patients with stroke-related drop foot.

Hyperparathyroidism is no longer considered an uncommon endocrinopathy. Between 1994 and 2002, 138 patients underwent neck exploration for primary hyperparathyroidism at the Department for Surgery in the University Hospital of Dresden. Common reasons for operation failure are usually hyperplasia or remnant parathyroid tissue, inadequate parathyroidectomy at initial operation or the occurrence of abnormal hyperfunctioning supernumerary glands.

AMD3100, a competitive antagonist of CXCR-4, disrupts the binding of its ligand, stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1), and facilitates stem cell mobilisation in patients with haematological malignancies. This study investigated the differential kinetics of CXCR-4 and adhesion molecule expression and their impact on stem cell yield during mobilisation with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) (days 1-4) followed by AMD3100 in 10 patients with multiple myeloma. A four-colour flow cytometry-based determination of CXCR-4, VLA-4, L-selectin, PECAM, LFA-1 and CD44 expression on CD34+ cells and measurement of SDF-1 concentration were performed at different time points.

Background: Since the first description of gas gangrene of an internal organ by Fraenkel in 1889, few cases of acute organ failure following Clostridium perfringens infection have been described in the medical literature. Isolated Clostridium perfringens infection with subsequent sepsis syndrome is an extremely rare clinical syndrome. A consecutive pattern of multiple organ failure generally has a very high mortality rate.

Unlabelled: Hypertriglyceridemia is a possible unwanted effect during long-term propofol sedation while using a formulation containing long-chain triglycerides (LCT) from soybean oil. The use of propofol formulated in a solvent consisting of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) and LCT might reduce the risk. Because a new solvent may affect the pharmacological profile of propofol, in this prospective, randomized, controlled, and double-blinded study we compared the pharmacodynamic and kinetic characteristics of propofol diluted in MCT/LCT fat solution with those of propofol formulated in LCT fat emulsion.

Objective: To introduce the electroencephalogram silence-ratio (ESR) as a variable derived from mathematically processed electroencephalogram for early outcome prognosis in patients with severe head trauma and to comparatively assess sensitivity, specificity and predictive value vs. somatosensory evoked potentials and brainstem auditory evoked potentials.

Design: Prospective, interventional study.

Background: Lamellar refractive surgery reduces the biomechanical strength of the cornea which may lead to mechanical instability and keratectasia.

Methods: Three eyes had laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia from -10.00 to -13.
