Introduction: The most frequently used target for DBS in advanced Parkinson Disease (PD) is the sensorimotor subthalamic nucleus (STN), anatomically referred to as dorso-lateral STN [3]. Ambiguities arise, regarding the true meaning of this description in the STN. Does "dorsal" indicate posterior or superior? At its best, this definition assigns two directions in space to a three-dimensional structure.

FMRI data observed under a given experimental condition may be decomposed into two parts: the average effect and the deviation of single replications from this average effect. The average effect is represented by the mean activation over a specific condition. The deviation from this average effect may be decomposed into two components as well: systematic variation due to known empirical factors and pure measurement error.

Number processing recruits a complex network of multiple numerical representations. Usually the components of this network are examined in a between-task approach with the disadvantage of relying upon different instructions, tasks, and inhomogeneous stimulus sets across different studies. A within-task approach may avoid these disadvantages and access involved numerical representations more specifically.

Biodegradable polyesters are established biomaterials in medicine due to their chemical characteristics and options for material processing. A main problem, however, is the release of acid degradation products during biodegradation with severe local pH-drops and inflammatory reactions. Polyesteramides, in contrast, show a less prominent pH-drop during degradation.

Extended soft tissue defects resulting from injuries or tumor resections are still an unresolved problem in plastic and reconstructive surgery because adequate reconstruction is difficult. Immature adipogenic precursor cells, called preadipocytes, which are located between mature adipocytes in adipose tissue, represent a powerful tool for soft tissue engineering because of their ability to proliferate and differentiate into adipose tissue after transplantation. In previous studies, we compared preadipocyte-loaded hyaluronan or collagen biomaterials and their applicability for adipose tissue engineering.

Purpose: Recent studies have claimed that language functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can identify language lateralization in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and that fMRI-based findings are highly concordant with the conventional assessment procedure of speech dominance, the intracarotid amobarbital test (IAT).

Methods: To establish the power of language fMRI to detect language lateralization during presurgical assessment, we compared the findings of a semantic decision paradigm with the results of a standard IAT in 68 patients with chronic intractable right and left temporal lobe epilepsy (rTLE, n=28; lTLE, n=40) who consecutively underwent a presurgical evaluation program. The patient group also included 14 (20.

End-diastolic wall thickness (EDWT) and thickness of the residual non-contrast-enhanced myocardial rim have been suggested as markers for the assessment of myocardial viability by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. This study compared these parameters as derived from contrast-enhanced CMR images for the prediction of myocardial viability as determined by fluorine-18 deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). Twenty-two patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ejection fraction 31 +/- 11%) were investigated.

Although numbers carry averbal semantics (i.e., magnitude), they are often utilized in verbal Working Memory (vWM) tasks.
