Introduction: Real-world data indicate that sodium glucose transporter-2-inhibitor therapy and/or incretin mimetics are not widely prescribed in type-2 diabetics with atherosclerotic vascular disease. We hypothesized that incretin-mimetic therapy is associated with better overall survival and 1-year mortality in type-2 diabetics following myocardial revascularization.
Methods: Hospitalized type-2 diabetics of the Departments of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery (University Hospital Halle) who needed myocardial revascularization (PCI or CABG) in 2016 were included in this observational study: group 1 (incretin-mimetic therapy), group 2 (insulin therapy without incretin mimetics) and group 3 (oral diabetes medication without incretins or insulin).

Obesity is a complex disease which has reached epidemic dimensions. The impact of epigenetic mechanisms on the regulation of genes involved in obesity is increasingly recognized.

Background: The laryngeal tube (LT) is a recommended alternative to endotracheal intubation during advanced life support (ALS). Its insertion is relatively simple; therefore, it may also serve as an alternative to bag mask ventilation (BMV) for untrained personnel performing basic life support (BLS). Data support the influence of LT on the no-flow time (NFT) compared with BMV during ALS in manikin studies.

Objective: To compare differences in shared decision-making (SDM) and treatment satisfaction (TS) between haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients.
Methods: 6-24 months after initiation of dialysis, we surveyed 780 patients from throughout Germany (CORETH-project) regarding SDM, the reason for modality choice and TS. Data were compared between two age-, comorbidity-, education-, and employment status-matched groups (n=482).

Background: The majority of nursing home residents with dementia experience behavioural and psychological symptoms like apathy, agitation, and anxiety. According to analyses of prescription prevalence in Germany, antipsychotic drugs are regularly prescribed as first-line treatment of neuropsychiatric symptoms in persons with dementia, although guidelines clearly prioritise non-pharmacological interventions. Frequently, antipsychotic drugs are prescribed for inappropriate reasons and for too long without regular reviewing.

Totally implantable venous access ports have been in use now for over 20 years. They are valuable instruments for long-term intravenous treatment of patients with cancer. Apart from perioperative difficulties, the typical complications associated with venous access ports are venous thrombosis, port infection, extravasation, pinch off syndrome, dislocation, occlusion and catheter leakages.
