: Undoubtedly, overlooking a stroke can result in severe disability or even death. However, identifying stroke patients in the prehospital setting poses a significant challenge. While the Face-Arm-Speech-Time (FAST) score is widely used, its effectiveness has been questioned because of its focus on symptoms primarily associated with anterior circulation strokes.

Background: Cerebrovascular autoregulation in patients with acute and chronic liver failure is often impaired, yet an intact autoregulation is essential for the demand-driven supply of oxygenated blood to the brain. It is unclear, whether there is a connection between cerebrovascular autoregulation during liver transplantation (LTX) and the underlying disease, and if perioperative anesthesiologic consequences can result from this.
Methods: In this prospective observational pilot study, data of twenty patients (35% female) undergoing LTX were analyzed.

Brain injured patients often need deep sedation to prevent or treat increased intracranial pressure. The mainly used IV sedatives have side effects and/or high context-sensitive half-lives, limiting their use. Inhalative sedatives have comparatively minor side effects and a brief context-sensitive half-life.

Background: In pivotal studies, idelalisib demonstrated remarkable efficacy and manageable tolerability in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and follicular lymphoma (FL). This prospective, multicenter, non-interventional post-authorization study assessed the characteristics, clinical management, and outcome of CLL and FL patients receiving idelalisib in routine clinical practice in Germany.
Patients: Observational study in CLL and FL patients treated with idelalisib between September 2015 and December 2020.

Background: Tolerating higher partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) in mechanically ventilated, extremely low birthweight infants might reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. We aimed to test the hypothesis that higher target ranges for pCO2 decrease the rate of bronchopulmonary dysplasia or death.
Methods: In this randomised multicentre trial, we recruited infants from 16 tertiary care perinatal centres in Germany with birthweight between 400 g and 1000 g and gestational age 23-28 weeks plus 6 days, who needed endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation within 24 h of birth.

Defibrillation with square-wave pulses has proved to possess hyperbolic strength-duration relationship. Does such a hyperbolic relation also exist for exponentially decaying pulses as they are commonly used today? This paper hypothesizes that exponentially decaying pulses obey hyperbolic strength-duration relationship, calculates the consequences, and advises of how such thresholds should be investigated. If the strength-duration relationship exists for current, the corresponding charge threshold must be a Weiss' straight threshold line.

We evaluated spontaneous tumescence after penile prostheses implantation in a retrospective study. A total of 32 patients with three-piece hydraulic implants (17 Mentor Alpha I, 15 AMS Ultrex Plus) were enrolled. Consultation, personal interviews and questionnaires for both the patients and their partners provided the necessary information.
