Sentinel lymph node pathological ultrastaging: Final outcome of the Sentix prospective international study in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Objective: To report the outcome of SLN staging in the SENTIX international prospective trial of SLN biopsy in patients with cervical cancer with an intensive ultrastaging protocol and central quality control and to evaluate how the intensity of pathological assessment correlates with metastatic detection rate in SLNs.

Methods: Eligible were patients with stages T1a1/LVSI+ to T1b2 (<4 cm, ≤2 cm for fertility sparing), common tumor types, no suspicious lymph nodes on imaging, and bilateral SLN detection. SLNs were examined intraoperatively and processed by an intensive protocol for ultrastaging (paraffin blocks sectioned completely in 150-μm intervals/levels).

The aim of this study was to identify the valid and reliable instruments in the evaluation of the nutritional status of cancer patients with a diagnosis of solid tumor undergoing antineoplastic treatment (chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy). A scoping review was conducted to search for original articles published in scientific journals in English, Spanish, or Portuguese in the past five years.

Comparative study of weekly and three-weekly neoadjuvant carboplatin in triple-negative breast cancer: retrospective analysis in real-world settings.

Purpose: Tri-weekly carboplatin is an established neoadjuvant treatment for triple-negative breast cancer, enhancing pathological complete response (pCR) and overall survival. This study explores if weekly carboplatin provides lower toxicity and comparable pCR rates.

Bacterial Colonization of Microplastics at the Beaches of an Oceanic Island, Tenerife, Canary Islands.

The formation of microbial biofilm on the surface of microplastics present in marine environments provides potential facilities for microorganisms to survive under the biofilm. Moreover, microplastics act as a vehicle for the dispersion of pathogenic organisms, constituting a new route of exposure for humans.

(1) Background: The CEECCA questionnaire assesses the ability to communicate among individuals with aphasia. It was designed using the NANDA-I and NOC standardised nursing languages (SNLs), reaching high content validity index and representativeness index values. The questionnaire was pilot-tested, demonstrating its feasibility for use by nurses in any healthcare setting.

Objectives: To develop practical recommendations, based on the best available evidence and experience, on the nursing management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and interstitial lung disease (ILD).

Methods: The usual consensus methodology was used, with a nominal group, systematic reviews (SRs), and Delphi survey. The expert panel, consisting of rheumatology nurses, rheumatologists, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, and a patient, defined the scope, the users, the topics on which to explore the evidence and on which to issue recommendations.

A 39-Year-Old Woman with Endometriosis Who Developed a Subcapsular Liver Hematoma Following Laparotomic Surgical Left Adnexectomy, Rectosigmoid Anastomosis, and Bilateral Ureteral Reimplantation.

BACKGROUND Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by endometrial tissue that grows outside the uterus. Deep endometriosis surgery is associated with considerable rates of complications, although such rates are lower in surgical procedures carried out by expert surgical teams. This report details a case of a rare but life-threatening complication in the postoperative period following 72 h of endometriosis surgery: a giant subcapsular hepatic hematoma, which was successfully managed conservatively.

Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the OPQOL-Brief.

Background: Ageing and its consequences on quality of life is one of the main issues to be addressed by public organizations; therefore the development of tools for its evaluation is a priority issue to orientate lines of action. Therefore, the objective of this research is to carry out cross-cultural adaptation and present the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Older People's Quality of Life Questionnaire-Brief (OPQOL-Brief).

Methods: a cross-cultural adaptation was carried out together with a process of translation and back-translation of the scale.

Cancer-associated spinal cord infarction: A systematic review and analysis of survival predictors.

Objective: The association between spinal cord infarction (SCI) and cancer is an infrequent condition but requires an accurate diagnosis to establish the appropriate treatment. Clinical features and prognosis of cancer-associated SCI have never been assessed. The aim of this systematic review is to describe the characteristics and outcomes of patients with cancer-associated SCI.

Interatrial septum dissection, severe aortic stenosis, and paravalvular mitral regurgitation: A rare combination and their hemodynamic interrelationship.

Left atrial wall dissection is a rare entity with controversial management approaches. We report the case of an 85-year-old woman with a mitral bioprosthetic admitted for heart failure. Diagnosis of atrial septum dissection, severe aortic stenosis, and paravalvular mitral regurgitation was established.

Diabetes Mellitus and Obesity as Prognostic Factors in Arthroscopic Repair of Chronic Rotator Cuff Tears.

Metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes mellitus seem to have an influence on reoperation and long-term functional outcomes after arthroscopic repair of chronic rotator cuff tears. High prevalence of these pathologies can be found in the Canary Islands. A retrospective cohort study was carried out, in which 80 patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopic surgery for the repair of chronic rotator cuff tears were included, with a minimum follow up of 5 years, to study the occurrence of complications, reoperation, and functional outcomes.

Artificial Urinary Sphincter in a High-Risk Urethra: Transcorporal Gullwing Modification Description of the Technique.

Background: In this report, we describe a modification of transcorporal artificial urinary sphincter place ment known as Gullwing modification.

Description Of Technique: Using a penoscrotal approach, bilateral corpora cavernosa flaps are harvested and sutured in the midline covering the lateral and ventral surfaces of the urethra. Transcorporal cuff placement provides dorsal reinforcement, thus having extra tissue buttressing all the circumference in cases of a fragile urethra due to previous urethral cuff erosion, urethroplasty, or pelvic radiotherapy.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous return with mixed drainage and double connection: a rare case report not previously described.

Background: Total anomalous pulmonary venous return is a rare cyanotic congenital heart disease in which pulmonary veins connect to the systemic veins, right atrium, or coronary sinus. Given its variability, it is essential to define the pathway and drainage site.

Case Summary: We describe a 3-day-old patient with total anomalous pulmonary venous return, in which the four pulmonary veins drained into a common vertical vein that had a double connection at the cardiac (coronary sinus) and infracardiac (portal vein) levels.

Hepatic encephalopathy is not a contraindication to pre-emptive TIPS in high-risk patients with cirrhosis with variceal bleeding.

Background: A pre-emptive transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (pTIPS) reduces mortality in high-risk patients with cirrhosis (Child-Pugh C/B+active bleeding) with acute variceal bleeding (AVB). Real-life studies point out that <15% of patients eligible for pTIPS ultimately undergo transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) due to concerns about hepatic encephalopathy (HE). The outcome of patients undergoing pTIPS with HE is unknown.

Atypical presentation of sexually-transmitted monkeypox lesions.

Background: Typically, skin lesions caused by monkeypox (MPX) begin as a monomorphic exanthema with centrifugal distribution, and can be found at different sequential stages in different regions of the body. The aim of this study is to present an atypical case of MPX infection that simultaneously presented exanthema at three stages of evolution in the same location.

Methods: This is a descriptive study of a confirmed case of MPX by detection of the virus genome in clinical sample by polymerase chain reaction.

A New Deep Learning Algorithm with Activation Mapping for Diabetic Retinopathy: Backtesting after 10 Years of Tele-Ophthalmology.

We report the development of a deep learning algorithm (AI) to detect signs of diabetic retinopathy (DR) from fundus images. For this, we use a ResNet-50 neural network with a double resolution, the addition of Squeeze-Excitation blocks, pre-trained in ImageNet, and trained for 50 epochs using the Adam optimizer. The AI-based algorithm not only classifies an image as pathological or not but also detects and highlights those signs that allow DR to be identified.

Asynchronous electronic consultation between primary care and specialized care proved effective for continuum of care for viraemic hepatitis C patients.

Introduction: It has been proposed that primary care diagnose and treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. However, a care circuit between primary and specialized care based on electronic consultation (EC) can be just as efficient in the micro-elimination of HCV. It is proposed to study characteristics and predictive factors of continuity of care in a circuit between primary and specialized care.
